KRCS and Wafa partner to provide clean water in Gaza
KUWAIT CITY, July 14: The Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) has announced the launch of a humanitarian project to supply water tankers to the Gaza Strip, in partnership with the Palestinian Wafa Association for Development and Capacity Building. The initiative aims to support families affected by ongoing Israeli aggression and to ease their daily suffering. Chairman of the KRCS Board of Directors, Khaled Al-Mughamis, told KUNA that the project is valued at USD 676,500 and is part of the Society's continued efforts to assist the Palestinian people through vital humanitarian initiatives. Al-Mughamis emphasized the Society's commitment to carrying out further relief and development projects in coordination with its partners in Palestine. These efforts are designed to meet the basic needs of impacted families and improve their living conditions in one of the most heavily affected regions. He noted that Gaza is currently facing a severe water crisis, exacerbated by the contamination of groundwater sources and the fragile state of the water infrastructure. Years of blockade and repeated destruction from military assaults have left the water network deeply compromised. As a result, transporting water via tankers has become a critical lifeline for ensuring families have access to safe and usable water. In addition to the water initiative, Al-Mughamis highlighted the Society's broader humanitarian engagement in Gaza, including the provision of food baskets, medical equipment, medicines, and ambulances. He also pointed to the construction of a field hospital to strengthen the healthcare sector and address urgent medical needs. 'These projects reflect our unwavering commitment to our humanitarian responsibilities toward our Palestinian brothers and sisters,' Al-Mughamis said. He extended his gratitude to all contributors and supporters of these humanitarian efforts, reaffirming the KRCS's dedication to upholding its humanitarian mission and serving just causes around the world.

In a statement issued Wednesday, Al-Mughamis announced the Society's preparations to host a specialized workshop on IHL from May 26 to 28, in coordination with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). The event aims to promote the dissemination of IHL principles and enhance understanding of its humanitarian foundations and applications. Al-Mughamis noted that the workshop will feature a series of expert-led lectures focusing on key aspects of international humanitarian law, particularly those relating to the protection of civilians, the treatment of detainees, the facilitation of humanitarian aid, and the legal framework governing safe access in conflict zones. Kuwait's humanitarian leadership praised at Red Crescent meeting
KUWAIT: Kuwait's humanitarian leadership received strong praise on Thursday during the 21st meeting of the Committee of Presidents and Heads of Gulf Red Crescent Societies, held in Kuwait. Khalid Al-Sunaidi, Assistant Secretary-General for Economic Affairs at the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), commended Kuwait's global relief efforts and the wise leadership of His Highness the Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, who presides over the current GCC Supreme Council session.
