Anti-Israel vandal arrested after pepper-spraying two NYPD cops in Times Square: sources

A hateful anti-Israel vandal who was caught viciously ripping down Israeli child hostage posters while yelling 'F–k Israel' after Hamas' Oct. 7, 2023 attack was arrested Wednesday after she pepper-sprayed two NYPD officers in Times Square — and tried to take their gun, according to law enforcement sources. Dana Baraket approached the pair of officers on Broadway and 47th Street around 1:20 a.m. and doused them in the eyes and face, police and sources said. The 19-year-old then tried to grab one of their guns as she repeatedly yelled at them to 'kill me,' according to sources. Advertisement Baraket did not get the gun and was arrested at the scene, the sources added. She was charged with assaulting a police officer, attempted robbery, criminal possession of a weapon, harassment and criminal possession of a noxious matter. 3 The two officers were taken to the hospital in stable condition, police said. 'The officers did an excellent job under extreme pressure and stress when they were intentionally ambushed by the attacker,' a law enforcement source said. Advertisement 'Within seconds of being attacked, they quickly de-escalated the situation without anyone being seriously injured, and placed the attacker in handcuffs.' In Oct. 2023 — just weeks after Hamas launched its bloodthirsty attack on Israel, killing some 1,200 people and taking hundreds of hostages — Baraket was filmed tearing down Israeli child hostage posters from a storefront window with her sister while yelling 'F–k Israel' on the Upper West Side. The siblings were confronted by Marilyn Adler and her two adult daughters, who said the pair then turned on them, leaving her frightened that they would harm her children. In the video, shared widely online by the nonprofit StopAntisemitism, Adler's daughter Melissa pleaded with the women to stop, stressing that those pictured on the posters were 'innocent civilians.' Advertisement In response, one of the women yelled, 'F–k you, f–k Israel.' The sisters' father, Hasan Bakaret said he spoke with his daughters after the disturbing confrontation made The Post's front page. Hasan, a New Yorker who immigrated from Lebanon more than 35 years ago, said he disapproved of their offensive language but insisted they are not antisemitic and that their actions were taken out of context. The two women claimed they were provoked by Adler, who they claimed snatched a photo of a Palestinian baby from their hands, the dad said.

An innocent 17-year-old girl was shot in Sunday night's chaos outside Manhattan's historic Stonewall Inn after the Pride parade — while the 16-year-old who nailed her ended up accidently shot herself by a pal, cops and sources said. The mayhem erupted around 10:15 p.m. when the 16-year-old, who was with some people, opened fire at another group during a street beef on Sheridan Square, just around the corner from the LGBTQ+ landmarked bar in Greenwich Village, law-enforcement sources said. The young shooter struck the 17-year-old girl – a bystander who was not involved in the clash – in the leg, sources said. 4 Two teenage girls were hurt when gunfire erupted near the Stonewall Inn after Sunday's Pride parade. Kyle Mazza/NurPhoto/Shutterstock Another person in the shooter's group then opened fire at their rivals a second time – but mistakenly hit her pal who fired the first shot, striking her in the head, sources said. The 16-year-old girl was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where she was listed in critical condition, and the 17-year-old bystander to Northwell Greenwich Village Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, cops said. No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing. The violence is not considered hate-crime-related, according to the sources. 4 A 16-year-old girl was shot in the head and is listed in critical condition, cops said. Kyle Mazza/NurPhoto/Shutterstock Greenwich Village and specifically the Stonewall Inn, where the 1969 Stonewall Riots effectively marked the start of the country's gay-rights movement, has traditionally been at the heart of city's annual Pride celebration. Mayor Eric Adams said he was briefed on the shooting after the parade in a statement he shared on social media. 'Saddened to learn about the shooting by the Stonewall Inn tonight as Pride celebrations were winding down,' Adams said on X. 'During a time when our city should be rejoicing and celebrating members of our diverse LGBTQ+ community, incidents like this are devastating.' 4 No arrests have been made in the late-night burst of violence, cops said. Diego Luzuriaga/FNTV 4 The mayhem appeared to stem from a street beef, sources said. Kyle Mazza/NurPhoto/Shutterstock The shooting occurred several hours after a false report of gunfire during Pride celebrations at Washington Square Park sparked a stampede as thousands fled the packed greenspace. A shirtless man had unleashed bear spray during or before the mad dash in the park and was taken into custody, police said. More than 50 people were injured during the chaos — either by the stampede or the potent chemical spray, according to law-enforcement sources.

DCPI Numerous law enforcement agencies — NYPD Crime Stoppers, US Marshals and ATF — are offering reward money for the accused firebug's arrest and conviction, the NYPD announced Wednesday. Kyle Mazza 'We believe, based on his social media, that he's very active in the protest community, involving the Free Palestine movement,' NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny said after the arson incident near Patrol Borough Brooklyn North headquarters. He's believed to have acted alone during his targeted attack. 'We have him on video for about 40 minutes prior to the incident. He is by himself, and, like I said, a substantial video canvass after the fact, where we track him all the way back to Manhattan,' Kenny told reporters. 3 Suspected arsonist Jakhi Lodgson-McCray has not been seen since allegedly setting fire to 11 police vehicles. Kyle Mazza 'Several times during his escape, he changes his clothing.' 'He's wearing a hoodie cinched up so you can't see his face, and wearing a mask,' he added. 'But we do believe that he acted alone, and obviously he targeted this location because it is a police facility.' Logson-McCray was previously arrested for resisting arrest at an anti-ICE protest last month. He's also been cuffed at several anti-Israel demonstrations, according to records. Police are asking anyone with information to contact @NYPDTips or call 1-800-577-TIPS.
