SAR 336.3B tenders launched via Etimad platform in 2024: LCGPA
The total value of government tenders launched via Saudi Arabia's Etimad platform reached SAR 336.3 billion by the end of 2024, according to a report by the Local Content and Government Procurement Authority (LCGPA). A total of 1,393 high-value tenders worth SAR 233.7 billion were launched on the platform, accounting for around 66% of the total tenders. The local content contribution in government procurement reached SAR 71.96 billion. The number of tenders launched via the platform reached nearly 85,900, with around 34,000 tenders awarded. The value of tenders incorporating local content mechanisms totaled SAR 316.4 billion, with the implementation rate of local content policies and mechanisms—based on total tender value—reaching 94.1% in 2024.

LCGPA adds 105 products to mandatory list of national products; spending exceeds SAR 2.3B
The Local Content and Government Procurement Authority (LCGPA) added 105 more products to the mandatory list of national products, with expected government spending of more than SAR 2.3 billion. According to state-run news agency SPA, these products are distributed across seven strategic sectors, including pharmaceuticals, medical supplies, building and construction, transport and logistics, furniture, cyber security, and information technology. The move is part of the authority's efforts to adhere to the local content preference regulation. This is besides supporting small and medium enterprises (SMEs) as well as listed companies in a bid to boost local supply chains. The updated list is aimed at maximizing local content in national economy through government spending. There are 103 factories currently catering to government demand.

LCGPA unveils additional price preference mechanism for pharma sector
The Local Content and Government Procurement Authority (LCGPA) announced today, Feb. 6, the first batch of products eligible for the additional price preference mechanism in the pharmaceutical and medical products sector, as part of its efforts to enhance local content and support national products. In its statement, the authority explained that the mechanism grants an additional price preference of up to 20%, in addition to the existing 10% preference stipulated in the Regulations on Preference for Local Content and Local SMEs. A total of 17 pharmaceutical and medical products have so far been included in the list designated for this mechanism. LCGPA estimates that spending on these target products will reach SAR 141 million, with an expected contribution of SAR 53.8 million to GDP. This highlights the initiative's crucial role in strengthening the national economy and driving growth in the local pharmaceutical industry. Eligibility for the additional price preference mechanism requires each product to have a valid registration certificate issued by the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA). The mechanism does not apply to national products that have only undergone secondary packaging, except for those on which clinical studies or bioequivalence testing have been carried out in Saudi Arabia or those containing an active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) manufactured locally. LCGPA emphasized that this initiative is designed to support the national pharmaceutical industry by introducing new competitive incentives within the government procurement framework, ultimately boosting reliance on local products in the Saudi health sector.
