Brooks Koepka Turns Heads With On-Course Meltdown Before Withdrawal
Brooks Koepka Turns Heads With On-Course Meltdown Before Withdrawal originally appeared on Athlon Sports. To say that Brooks Koepka's recent form on the golf course has been unpredictable is an understatement. Advertisement On the LIV Golf Tour, Koepka has had a mixed bag of results this season, with a pair of top-10 finishes, and four finishes outside of the top 30. Meanwhile, in the major championships, Koepka has not been up to his usual form, missing the cut at both the Masters and the PGA Championship before finishing in a tie for 12th at the U.S. Open. So to see Koepka struggle once again this week at the LIV Dallas tournament didn't come as a surprise. To see him melt down on the course, whack a tee-marker into a crowd of people, and then withdraw from the tournament due to "illness" in the first round, certainly turned some heads. "PGA to LIV to fall from grace," another added. "Bro must have hungout with Rory and Wyndham last week," one fan commented. There were no reports of any injuries from the tee-maker smash, but it is undoubtedly a bad look for Koepka, who has been struggling to get his game into form after being such a dominant force on the PGA Tour, winning five major championships, before moving over to LIV in 2021. Koepka has been open and honest about his recent frustrations, admitting this past month at the U.S. Open that he was aware of his struggles, and working hard to fix the. Advertisement 'From the first weekend in April until about [the beginning of June], you didn't want to be around me,' Koepka said after the first round of the U.S. Open. 'It drove me nuts. It ate at me. I haven't been happy. It's been very irritating.' A top-12 finish followed at the Open, but it appears that the frustrations have returned for Koepka. Brooks Koepka withdraws from LIV Golf event after tee-box mashing meltdown
It was a wild turn of events for Brooks Koepka. Koepka stormed out of the first round at the LIV Golf Dallas tournament on Friday after smashing a tee box marker in visible frustration and then withdrawing due to illness. The five-time major champion opened the day poorly, carding triple bogeys on the fifth and seventh holes at Maridoe Golf Club and standing 6-over par by the front nine. Advertisement And that seemingly angered him. His boiling point came on the ninth hole after an errant drive where Koepka angrily slammed his club into the ground and then struck the tee box marker that flew toward the crowd, though it appeared that no one was hurt. Advertisement Following that outburst, Koepka continued to struggle, bogeying the 10th and 13th holes. He ultimately withdrew from the tournament during the 14th hole, citing an apparent illness. LIV Golf star Brooks Koepka destroys tee marker with driver after wayward shot
LIV Golf star Brooks Koepka plays for Smash GC, and on Friday during the first round of LIV Dallas, Koepka took his team's name to heart. Koepka, 35, hit a wayward drive on the ninth hole. Immediately after he saw the flight of the ball, the five-time major winner smashed his club. After slamming his club, he took a swing at the tee marker and destroyed it. The five-time major champion struggled during the first round and was six over par after eight holes before he withdrew with an illness, according to LIV Golf communications. He was replaced by a reserve player, Luis Carrera. Koepka would be allowed to return this weekend, but his contributions would count strictly for this team's score. Koepka played better at the U.S. Open earlier this month than he did at LIV Dallas Friday. He tied for 12th at the U.S. Open as he finished six-over par for the tournament. Koepka won the U.S. Open in 2017 and 2018. The LIV Golf star has had success in the major championships, winning the PGA Championship in 2018, 2019 and 2023, in addition to his U.S. Open victories. Koepka had nine career wins on the PGA Tour before he defected to LIV in June 2022. According to the PGA Tour website, Koepka made nearly $44 million from the 186 events he participated in on the tour. Last season, Koepka won twice and became the first LIV golfer to win five times since the inception of the upstart golf league. Harold Varner III of the 4Aces GC was in the lead after the first round at LIV Dallas. Follow Fox News Digital's sports coverage on X, and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

LIV Golf star Brooks Koepka withdraws due to 'illness' after smashing tee box in furious tantrum
Brooks Koepka's frustrations boiled over at LIV Golf Dallas, with the five-time major winner smashing up a tee box in anger - before withdrawing through a mystery illness. Koepka suffered a catastrophic meltdown on Friday, going six-over-par through eight holes before a wayward drive on the ninth tipped him over the edge. The 35-year-old smashed his driver into the tee box before taking aim at the tee marker, hitting it out of the ground in anger. It would prove his final hole of the day, with Smash GC announcing that the captain had been replaced by reserve Luis Carrera. LIV Golf said Koepka has been 'feeling under the weather all week... (and) was forced to pull out after playing eight holes'. He began the day with a birdie on the par-five second, only to make triple bogies on holes five and seven. Koepka then dropped another shot after his poor drive on nine. 🚨😳⛳️ #NEW — Brooks Koepka has withdrawn from the 1st round of LIV Dallas due to illness. He was +7, smashing a tee box marker due to poor play. LIV communications reports that Brooks could return this weekend but the score would only count towards the team. @TrackingKoepka — NUCLR GOLF (@NUCLRGOLF) June 27, 2025 The former world No 1 is eligible to return to the field for rounds two and three but his score would count only towards Smash GC's team score. In Koepka's place on Friday, LIV Golf debutant Carrera eventually carded a nine-over-par 81. Koepka was among the big-name stars who quit the PGA Tour to join the Saudi-backed breakaway in 2022. The following year he became the first LIV rebel to win a major, when he triumphed at the 2023 PGA Championship. But he has yet to win a LIV event in 2025 and on Friday he lost his temper. Koepka's tantrum came just weeks after Wyndham Clark landed himself in hot water at the US Open. The former champion missed the cut at Oakmont and then damaged a century-old locker in the clubhouse. 'I made a mistake that I deeply regret. I'm very sorry for what happened,' said Clark, who also flung his driver and damaged a sign during the PGA Championship.
