Dangerous stunts outside Greater Noida college, car owners fined Rs 1.2 lakh after video goes viral
A video showing passengers in two moving cars performing dangerous stunts outside a college in Greater Noida trended on social media Monday, prompting the traffic police to issue challans worth nearly Rs 1.2 lakh. In the video, a Maruti Suzuki Brezza is seen overtaking another vehicle at a dangerously high speed before abruptly slamming on the brakes outside a college in the Knowledge Park area of Greater Noida. One of the passengers leans out of the window, waving his hands. Meanwhile, two men in a Maruti Suzuki Baleno are seen speeding, with another man extending a baseball bat out of the car's window and swinging it in the air. After a 10-second video clip surfaced on social media with the background music of a trending track, the traffic police fined the owners of Baleno and Brezza Rs 63,500 and Rs 57,500, respectively. Lakhan Singh Yadav, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), said the exact date of the incident is yet to be ascertained. 'We have referred the matter to the Knowledge Park police for further action, including seizure of the vehicles involved,' he said. According to the police, the fines were imposed under provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, including Section 184 (dangerous driving), Section 189 (speeding), Section 179 (disobedience and obstruction), and Section 194B (seatbelt violation). 'A case under sections 281 (rash driving) and 125 (act endangering life) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered Monday and teams were formed to nab the suspects,' said Sarvesh Singh, Station House Officer, Knowledge Park. In June, a man and a woman who performed a stunt on a moving motorcycle on the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway were penalised with a challan of Rs 53,500. The traffic police took cognisance of a five-second video of the incident that went viral on social media after some passerby shot it. The video showed a man riding a motorcycle on the busy expressway, with a woman seated facing him on the fuel tank. Her legs were wrapped around him, and neither of them wore helmets.

Together, this is the highest challan to be slapped for stunts in the city so far. DCP (traffic) Lakhan Singh Yadav said on Monday cops have alerted Knowledge Park police about taking action against the accused. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Knowledge Park SHO Sarvesh Singh told TOI that an FIR was registered against the two car owners under sections 181 (rash driving), 251 (act endangering life and personal safety of others) of BNS. "We have launched a search to arrest the accused and seize the cars," he said. Asked what will deter drivers from performing stunts, traffic cops said they club together several violations, so the penalty amount for the challan is higher. In the Knowledge Park case, one of the cars was issued a challan of Rs 20,000 for dangerous driving (section 184 of MV Act), apart from Rs 20,000 for racing (section 189), Rs 1,000 for failure to use safety belts (section 194-B), and Rs 2,000 for disobedience of direction given by an authority (section 179), among other violations. In case of a repeat offence, police said, the Parivahan online portal will automatically double the challan issued against the vehicle. Performing stunts isn't uncommon in the city. On June 2, Noida traffic police fined Rs 89,500, the highest penalty levied against the owner of a four-wheeler, after a video showed three men in a Mahindra Scorpio dragging a police barricade in Greater Noida. Cops later seized this vehicle and arrested the three accused.

No e-rickshaw here, say cops. So, they take the risky shortcut
Noida: On Captain Vijyant Thapar Road, one of the city's busiest stretches, e-rickshaws and autos have become a traffic menace, regularly plying on the wrong side between GIP Mall and Botanical Garden. The practice of throwing caution to the wind, driven by economic compulsions, has turned this vital corridor into a risk zone. The root cause emerged a few months ago when police restricted three-wheeler movement between Sector 18 and Atta Peer. This restriction, aimed at managing heavy pedestrian footfall in the market areas, has inadvertently created a new problem. "A one-kilometre journey has turned into a 10-kilometre ordeal," said Suresh Kumar, an e-rickshaw driver. "Earlier, we could freely take U-turns at Sector 18 or Atta Market. Now, we're forced to take an extended route via Film City, DLF Mall, and under the elevated road." You Can Also Check: Noida AQI | Weather in Noida | Bank Holidays in Noida | Public Holidays in Noida The extended route means longer travel times, higher fuel consumption, and fewer daily trips. "Passengers won't pay extra or accept delays. This affects our daily earnings significantly," said another driver, explaining why many choose the risky shortcut of wrong-side driving at this spot. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trade Bitcoin & Ethereum – No Wallet Needed! IC Markets Start Now Undo The approximately one-kilometre stretch connecting Sector 37 and Botanical Garden to GIP Mall is now a constant battleground between traffic rules and economic necessity. Throughout the day, three-wheelers pick up commuters from the mall and drop them at the metro station, flouting traffic rules. Deputy commissioner of police (traffic) Lakhan Singh Yadav has initiated action, with 20 drivers fined Rs 2,000 each and two vehicles seized for documentation issues. "Strict action will continue against violators," the DCP warned. With nearly 38,000 three-wheelers serving as crucial last-mile connectivity in the absence of city buses, the issue affects thousands of daily commuters. "E-rickshaws are essential for metro connectivity, but this situation needs a solution," said Kumar Gaurav, a regular metro user. Drivers are now demanding either a reconsideration of the restrictions or a dedicated U-turn facility at the spot. Until then, e-rickshaw are likely to throw caution to the wind and continue to drive on the wrong side in the absence of enough cops.
