Tribal women in Gujarat's South Dang earn ₹35 Lakh through Lakhpati Didi Yojana

In the tribal region of South Dang in Gujarat, 40 women earned a total of ₹35 lakh during the financial year 2023–24 by cultivating 8.5 lakh saplings under the Lakhpati Didi Yojana, officials said. The initiative is part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's national goal of creating 2 crore Lakhpati Didis — women earning at least ₹1 lakh annually through self-employment. The South Dang Forest Division has taken the lead in local implementation, partnering with Self Help Groups (SHGs) to engage tribal women in nursery development and afforestation work, they said. The women are trained to raise saplings, handle plantation work, and carry out activities such as seed sowing, watering, pruning, and fertiliser application. The programme ensures payments are transferred directly to the women's bank accounts, making the financial process transparent and immediate. Alongside technical training in nursery practices, the scheme includes education in financial literacy. The forest department has conducted awareness camps to teach women how to manage bank accounts, maintain basic accounts, and plan household budgets. This training has equipped participants with tools to manage their earnings independently, officials said. The 8.5 lakh saplings raised are being used for afforestation across forest ranges in the region. Forest officials say this is contributing to long-term environmental restoration, enhancing forest cover and local biodiversity. 'The approach of linking livelihood creation with ecological activities has created dual benefits: economic support for tribal women and sustainable environmental impact.' The forest department reports that the income received by the 40 women has added stability to their households and supported children's education and family needs. Encouraged by the results in South Dang, officials are assessing the feasibility of replicating this model in other tribal districts. The Lakhpati Didi Yojana continues to be positioned as a rural self-employment scheme with scalable impact, both economically and environmentally.

Steps on to take number of 'Lakhpati Didis' to 2 crore by Aug 15: Chouhan

Nearly 1.5 crore women have already become 'Lakhpati Didis' in India and the Centre is making efforts to raise the figure to 2 crore by August 15, Union Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said. 'Lakhpati Didi' refers to a woman member of a Self-Help Group (SHG) who earns an income of ₹1 lakh or more per year. Mr. Chouhan on Saturday (July 19, 2025) visited the Indian Council of Agricultural Research - Directorate of Groundnut Research in Junagadh town of Gujarat, where he reviewed its activities and interacted with farmers and Lakhpati Didis of SHGs, the Press Information Bureau (PIB) said in a release. In his address, Mr. Chouhan said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken a resolve to make every woman a Lakhpati Didi. "Why should any woman remain poor? This campaign is being run across India. Till now, 1.5 crore women have already become Lakhpati Didis and my department is constantly taking steps to make 2 crore women Lakhpati Didis by August 15," he said. In Junagadh, there are women who are already earning more than ₹10 lakh per year, the Minister pointed out. "Women living in rural areas have proven that they can do wonders if they are provided with opportunity, training and bank linkage. These women are the true torchbearers of 'Vocal for Local'. I am confident that these women will build a 'Viksit Bharat' (developed India) as envisioned by PM Modi," said the Minister, who also handles the rural development portfolio. Mr. Chouhan lauded women for their contribution in this regard. "Keep pushing forward with courage. PM Modi himself stands with you to ensure all possible support. Plans are underway to increase women's participation in the industrial sector. The hard work of women will help build a Viksit Bharat as envisioned by the PM," he said. Stating that agriculture is still the backbone of Indian economy and for him, the Union minister said serving farmers is equal to worshipping God. "I don't just sit in my Delhi office. Instead, I visit agricultural fields, interact with farmers and try to provide a solution to their problems. Our PM also gives highest priority to agriculture," Mr. Chouhan said in his address. Earlier on Saturday (July 19, 2025), Mr. Chouhan offered prayers at the famous Somnath temple in Gir Somnath district and visited the Devaliya Safari Park near Gir National Park at Sasan.

SHGs key to ‘Viksit Arunachal', says Arunachal guv

1 2 3 4 5 6 Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh governor KT Parnaik on Friday urged women self-help groups (SHGs) to become torchbearers of 'Made-in-Arunachal' movement and take their locally produced goods to a global stage. Addressing 69 SHGs from 22 districts across the state at the Raj Bhavan, Parnaik stressed the need for dedicated hubs to market SHG products in key places such as Itanagar, Ziro, Tezu, Pasighat, Namsai, Aalo, Bomdila and Tawang, an official statement said. "The govt can provide infrastructure, but the leadership and ownership must come from the SHGs themselves. These hubs should become vibrant SHG bazaars, windows into the creativity and strength of our rural women," Parnaik said. Reiterating the PM's vision of empowering two crore 'Lakhpati Didis', the governor said, "The SHGs of Arunachal Pradesh are the living proof that this transformation is real, women creating wealth with dignity, driving economic change from the grassroots and laying the foundation for a Viksit Arunachal and Viksit Bharat." The governor called on the SHGs to embrace innovation, while staying rooted in tradition, and urged them to utilise local resources like bamboo, wild fruits, herbs and textiles, blending traditional knowledge with modern techniques. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like So sánh mức trượt giá: Hợp đồng tương lai (CFD) Bitcoin vs Ethereum IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo Encouraging entrepreneurship, the governor asked members to register their ventures, build collective brands and actively participate in exhibitions across the country.
