Mizoram: Construction of NIT campus at Lengpui to resume after 6-year halt
Aizawl: Construction of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Mizoram campus at Lengpui near Aizawl will resume after a six-year halt, an official statement issued by the government on Friday said. NIT Mizoram, which opened in 2010, currently functions from a temporary campus in Aizawl ( The Mizoram government has deposited a penalty of ₹1.4 crore to the appropriate office of the union forest ministry, and construction will resume soon, the statement added. The permanent NIT campus project was stalled in 2017 after the Centre for Environment Protection filed a complaint with the National Green Tribunal (NGT), citing unauthorised use of the Tlawng Riverine Reserve Forest without mandatory clearance under the Forest (Conservation) Act, 1980. NIT Mizoram, which opened in 2010, currently functions from a temporary campus in Aizawl, which includes an administrative block and four academic blocks at Chaltlang, three hostels at Tanhril, and one hostel at Durtlang. The institute offers BTech, MTech, and PhD degrees. In 2017, the Centre for Environment Protection filed a complaint with a special bench of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), alleging encroachment on the Tlawng Riverine Reserve Forest without mandatory forest clearance from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. An amount of ₹669.75 crore was sanctioned for the establishment of the permanent NIT Mizoram campus. The Mizoram government is responsible for providing the land for the campus free of cost and free from encumbrances.

Aizawl, Jul 24 (PTI) Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma on Thursday inaugurated a trauma care facility at Aizawl Civil Hospital, marking a major step forward in strengthening emergency healthcare in the state. The facility was constructed at the cost of over Rs 5.7 crore, of which Rs 1.21 crore was funded by the Centre, according to officials. The facility includes a reception and triage area, treatment and observation rooms, imaging (X-ray/CT scan), a minor OT/resuscitation room, and rooms for medical staffers, they said. Speaking on the occasion, Lalduhoma said that the facility will serve as a vital centre for timely trauma response and critical care for the people. He stated that the government was also undertaking further expansion of the hospital, including the construction of new blocks A and B at an estimated cost of Rs 88.33 crore. Additional services such as cardiac care, kidney dialysis, and IVF will also be introduced to meet growing healthcare demands, he said. MNF MLA Lalrintluanga Sailo's body brought to Aizawl from Delhi, last rites on Wednesday
His funeral will be held on Wednesday, leaders of the Luangmual unit of Young Mizo Association (YMA) said. The body of the two-time legislator from Dampa arrived at the Lengpui airport around 1.30 pm, and will reach his home at Luangmual neighbourhood in the western part of Aizawl in the evening, they said. Aizawl, July 22 (PTI) The mortal remains of Mizo National Front (MNF) MLA Lalrintluanga Sailo, who died at a hospital in Delhi, were brought to Aizawl on Tuesday afternoon. Sailo, whose performance as opposition member in the assembly was praised by many, died at Max Superspeciality Hospital in Delhi around 9 pm on Monday after battling with complicated ailments, including scrub typhus and pneumonia, for nearly a month. The 65-year-old MNF leader was flown to Delhi on June 29 following a fever. Although he initially showed signs of improvement, his condition deteriorated a few days ago and became worse on Sunday, following which he was put on ventilator support, family sources said. Born in 1960, Sailo joined MNF and went underground when he was only 16. He actively took part in the secessionist movement, spearheaded by the MNF led by late Laldenga, for 20 years till the underground group signed the historic Mizo peace accord with the Centre in June 1986. He contested the assembly polls in 2018 and got elected from Dampa in Mamit district, defeating his nearest opponent, Congress nominee Lalrobiaka, by a margin of 1,657 votes. He was re-elected from the same constituency in the last assembly polls, held in November 2023. Sailo held many important posts in the MNF and was a member of the national core committee of the party till his last breath. The MNF described Sailo's death as 'the collapse of one of the big pillars of the party'. Governor VK Singh, Chief Minister Lalduhoma and state Congress president Lal Thanzara mourned his death. 'I am deeply saddened by the passing of Pu Lalrintluanga Sailo. His dedicated contributions and tireless service to the state of Mizoram and its people will be fondly remembered,' the governor said in a social media post. Lalduhoma said he was deeply shocked by the sudden demise of Sailo, whom he hailed as a diligent person, orator and good debater. Mizoram govt allocates 1.85cr for road repair works
1 2 Aizawl: The Mizoram govt has allocated Rs 1.85 crore for urgent repair works on three critical road stretches across the state, following a review meeting chaired by CM Lalduhoma on Monday amid mounting public pressure over deteriorating road conditions, reports HC Vanlalruata. The meeting held was attended by PWD minister Vanlalhlana. Senior officials from the PWD and finance department reviewed the status of roads in the worst condition and outlined immediate remedial measures. The Darlak–Tuidam road in Mamit district bordering Bangladesh and Tripura, which has remained incomplete due to the contractor's financial or technical failure, has been identified as a priority.
