LSU lands No. 1 college football recruit Lamar Brown in huge get
The No. 1 recruit in the 2026 recruiting class, according to ESPN's rankings, is off the board. The five-star defensive tackle Lamar Brown is committing to his home state school, LSU. 'For the next three or four years, I will be committing to Louisiana State University.' Brown said as he put on the LSU cap on Thursday. 'Go Tigers.' LSU beat out its SEC rivals, Texas and Texas A&M, for the 6-foot-4, 285-pound defensive tackle. Sources told ESPN that Brown was still between LSU and Texas A&M as late as Wednesday night. Brown is from Baton Rouge, where the LSU campus is located. He's now entering his senior season of football at University Lab High School. Brown is also a multi-sport athlete competing in both discus and shot put events in track and field. In his primary sport, football, Brown has played on both sides of the ball. This spring, though, he has focused most of his attention on defense. In his three seasons at the varsity level, Brown recorded 91 tackles and eight sacks. 'I get to play Saturday nights at Death Valley, that's all,' Brown said when asked about what he's excited for at LSU. 'I'm going to win the National Championship. Brown is not the only five-star recruit committed to LSU. Tristen Keys and Trenton Henderson also headline Brian Kelly's 2026 recruiting class. The recruiting class is ranked seventh in the nation. Even before Brown steps on campus, LSU is primed and ready to make a deep run in the 2025 season, as they are bringing in a top transfer class heading into next season. LSU brings back quarterback Garrett Nussmeier as the Tigers try to make the College Football Playoff after missing out in 2024.

How to watch 2026 5-star defensive lineman's commitment on Thursday
Texas A&M, Texas, LSU, and Miami are all vying for a shot at signing 2026 five-star defensive lineman Lamar Brown, who, on paper, is the most talented defensive prospect in several cycles. Playing in LSU's backyard, the Tigers have a great shot at keeping the elite prospect in-state, but after seven visits to College Station, the Aggies remain in play. Texas and Miami are technically finalists, but I don't see either program as a serious contender. According to several sources, Texas A&M and LSU are essentially tied heading into Thursday afternoon, as Brown's announcement now has an official time and place and will be nationally televised. Advertisement Thanks to recruiting insider Billy Tucker, it was revealed that all four fan bases can tune in to ESPN2 at 12:15 p.m. CT on Thursday to watch Brown make one of the most significant choices of the summer. Again, this is a coin flip, and anyone who says otherwise is simply guessing. For Brown, both Texas A&M and LSU can develop him to his full potential as a likely future first-round NFL Draft pick, but based on the Aggies' history in the trenches, combined with defensive line coaches Sean Spencer and Tony Jerod-Eddie, A&M's track record of seconding defensive linemen to the league is nearly unmatched. Brown is the No. 1-ranked prospect in the 2026 class per ESPN 300, and would be the highest ranked defensive line prospect to commit to the Aggies since current junior DL DJ Hicks in the 2023 recruiting class. LSU football five-star Lamar Brown responds to rumors saying he's a flip candidate
LSU commit Lamar Brown made a post on social media to let fans know where he stands on his recruitment. "I'm locked in man ain't none of that 'it ain't over til the ink dry' everybody had their chance I'm just blessed to be able call LSU home if you not with us then you TIGER BAIT!!!" Brown wrote. Advertisement Brown announced his commitment to the Tigers Thursday on ESPN's Sports Center from University Lab High School's gym. Surrounded by family, teammates, and community members, Brown put the purple and gold hat on to signal his decision while showcasing a gold LSU baseball jersey. The race came down to LSU and Texas A&M. Brown's decision remained a mystery until Thursday but his post on social media makes it known that he isn't considering pitches from the Aggies or any other school heading into his senior year of high school football. ESPN ranks Brown as the top recruit in the country. The five-star defensive tackle possesses the talent to play on both sides of the football, but signaled his intention to play defense throughout his recruitment. LSU Commit and Nation's No. 2 Recruit Sends Clear Pitch to 5-Star Prospect
LSU Commit and Nation's No. 2 Recruit Sends Clear Pitch to 5-Star Prospect originally appeared on Athlon Sports. One of the biggest names left uncommitted in the 2026 recruiting class is interior offensive lineman Darius Gray out of Richmond, Virginia, but that will soon change. Advertisement On Sunday, Rivals' Hayes Fawcett reported that he's down to five schools: the LSU Tigers, South Carolina Gamecocks, Clemson Tigers, Ohio State Buckeyes and Tennessee Volunteers. It's a high-powered race, and LSU is even receiving some help from a fellow member of the 2026 class: Lamar Brown, a dual-threat athlete and the nation's No. 2 recruit, per Rivals Industry Rankings. After the final schools were announced, Brown made his pitch to Gray, saying, "BATON ROUGE IS HOME DG!!! @dariusgrayy_," via an X post. Advertisement Rivals Industry Rankings place him as a five-star recruit, the No. 1 interior offensive lineman, the No. 2 player in Virginia and the No. 31 player in the nation. It will remain to be seen if Brown's message to his fellow recruit pays off, and as of now, things look good with the Rivals recruiting prediction machine giving LSU the best chance to land his services (51.1%). The programs' rich history may also come into play for Gray's decision, as he told Steve Wiltfong, "They have the player development for my position and the top school of development for offensive linemen.' Advertisement LSU Tigers coach Brian Kelly, who landed ATH Lamar Brown, is aiming for IOL Darius Chenault-Imagn Images If the Tigers and coach Brian Kelly do come out on top, Gray has the chance to become their third five-star recruit in this year's cycle, joining Brown and wide receiver Tristen Keys. Rivals/On3 Insider provides two key updates on Texas A&M's priority 5-star prospects
Texas A&M's recruiting success last month was borderline historic, as the school landed three five-star prospects in the 2026 cycle, culminating in Saturday's critical commitment from five-star edge rusher Bryce Perry-Wright, out of Buford, Georgia. Coach Elko and his staff have developed strong relationships with all 24 commits, and momentum could continue this week with the top-ranked defensive lineman in the class set to make his announcement. On Thursday, 2026 five-star DL Lamar Brown, the crown jewel of the 2026 cycle in the trenches, is expected to choose between the LSU Tigers or Texas A&M on Thursday, July 10. Right now, the Louisiana native, who has spent his entire football career in the backyard of Death Valley up to this point, is slightly leaning towards staying home. On Monday, Rivals recruiting insider Steve Wiltfong provided an update regarding where the Aggies stand with Brown during his appearance on Josh Newberg's Rivals show, stating that while he still believes LSU has the edge, Brown's nearly double-digit visits to College Station, combined with his belief in the program, still stand out. "They might be the program in on the move five-stars down the stretch" Wiltfong stated. "They have as good a chance as anyone to finish No. 1, and that starts with Lamar Brown. Maybe LSU has the edge, but there's been times where A&M has been the favorite. He's visited there seven times. Coach (Tony) Jerod-Eddie, Coach (Sean) Spencer, again, Coach (Mike) Elko, the scheme, how comfortable he is around the program, NIL opportunities; don't sleep on Texas A&M for Lamar Brown." While this take on Brown is similar to AggieYell insider Landyn Rosow's recent update that LSU and Texas A&M are "50-50" leading up to his announcement, Wiltfong also included a key update on the No. 1-ranked wide receiver in the 2026 class, five-star LSU commit Tristan Keys regarding Tennessee and Texas A&M's potential to flip the elite route runner. "There's buzz that's starting to rise where Texas A&M and Tennessee may be better positioned long-term. Now Miami is going to be swinging Tristen Keys as well, and LSU is doing everything they can to keep him in the fold. But the Aggies and the Vols are certainly doing a good job." For the Aggies to land both elite prospects ahead of Early Signing Day on December 4, it will take a strong effort from the coaching staff, and likely an in-season visit even if Lamar Brown commits to Texas A&M on Thursday.
