LTO waives traffic fines in calamity-stricken areas
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) announced Tuesday that it will waive the fines for traffic violations as well as for late vehicle registration and driver's license renewal in areas that were affected by the recent severe weather. In a statement, LTO Assistant Secretary Greg Pua Jr. signed a memorandum waiving the fines covering the weekly surcharge for late motor vehicle registration and driver's license renewal from July 21 to 25. 'Validity of the vehicle registration and driver's license within that period (July 21-25) are likewise extended to August 8, 2025,' citing the memorandum. Pua added that the settlement of fines for all traffic apprehension cases from July 21 to 25 will be extended until August 8. The LTO chief added that penalties for motor vehicles, including motorcycles, bought from July 21 to 25 this year which were not registered within the prescribed period will also be waived. Likewise, counting days on the Sales Invoice for vehicles bought under the same period will all start on August 8 of this year in order to avoid the penalty for late registration of new motor vehicles, Pua also said. Several parts of the country experienced heavy downpour and flooding due to the combined impacts of the southwest monsoon and typhoons 'Crising,' 'Dante,' and 'Emong.' According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, a total of 1,857,171 families or 6,670,506 persons were affected in 17 regions. — Vince Angelo Ferreras/RSJ, GMA Integrated News

LTO brings online license renewal to OFWs in Japan after Taiwan success
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has launched the second phase of its online driver's license renewal caravan for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), this time in Japan. LTO Acting Assistant Secretary Atty. Greg Pua Jr. said the initiative—coordinated with the Department of Migrant Workers, the Department of Foreign Affairs, and the Department of Labor and Employment—follows the successful rollout in Taiwan last year, where over 1,000 OFWs were assisted. Pua expects a similar turnout in Japan. The caravan includes information campaigns to help OFWs learn to use the online renewal platform. He also said the event serves as a live testing ground to resolve technical issues based on user feedback. To renew online, OFWs need a scanned copy of their expiring or recently expired license and a medical certificate from an LTO-accredited telemedical provider. A stable internet connection and smartphone are needed for the process, though Pua recommends using a tablet or laptop for telemedical exams. After payment, licenses will be printed and delivered to Japan via courier within three to five days. As part of the Bagong Pilipinas initiative, LTO plans to expand the program to OFWs in the Middle East, the U.S., and Europe.

‘Bukaka driver' Influencer Surrenders License, Vows to Promote Road Safety After Viral Driving Video
Social media influencer Cherry White has surrendered her driver's license to the Land Transportation Office (LTO) following a viral video that showed her dancing and driving with one foot raised along a road in Cainta, Rizal. During a hearing on Friday, the LTO said White admitted her reckless behavior, apologized, and cooperated with investigators. Her license was earlier suspended for 90 days and her vehicle was placed under alarm. LTO Chief Greg Pua Jr. acknowledged her humility and expressed hope she would help promote road safety moving forward. White claimed the original video was posted privately on her Instagram months ago and was only reposted by another user, causing it to go viral. The LTO reminded White to take responsibility for her content. She committed to informing her followers not to imitate her actions and was instructed to submit documents related to the car she used during the incident by Monday.

Marcos wants to raise awareness on use of eGov PH app
President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. wants to increase awareness on the use of eGov PH Super app to provide easier access on national and local government services. Marcos made the remark Friday during the launch of EGOV PH Hub in San Juan City. "Iyon lamang kailangan lang natin ipakalat sa taong-bayan na mayroon nang ganito at subukan nila at gamitin nila," Marcos said in his speech. (We have to let our countrymen know that we have this app and that they should try to use it.) The President said government offices and agencies should explain to the public how the application can be utilized. "Ang aming suggestion ay 'yung lahat ng mga iba't ibang ahensiya kapag sila nasa website dapat alam nila na may ganito. Kapag may dumadating sa opisina, ipaliwanag din o bigyan ng kaunting flyer para ipaliwanag," he said. (Our suggestion is that all agencies that have websites should know about this service. If a client arrives in an office, their staff should explain or give a flyer that explains the app.) He said the public no longer needs to go to the hub as they may access government services through the application. "Actually ang katotohanan, hindi ninyo na kailangan pumunta rito. Basta't mayroon kayong connectivity, may Wi-Fi kayo, ito na lang 'yung gagawin ninyo," Marcos added. (The truth is you don't need to come here. As long as you have connectivity, a WiFi connection, this is all you need to do.) The eGov PH Super App, which has more than 13 million users and offers 47 integrated service modules with over 150 million transactions. The Department of Health announced last week that the prices of medicines may be checked through the eGovPH app. The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has also announced that through the eGov PH app, users can download the online system and renew their driver's licenses without going to the agency's offices. — VDV, GMA Integrated News

LTO launches license plate tracker app
Motorcycle owners can check the status of their pending license plates starting Wednesday through the Land Transportation Office (LTO) tracker application, Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon said Tuesday. In a press conference, Dizon said the license plate tracker system can be accessed through the eGovPH application available on Google Play and App Store. 'This app will be available on eGov starting tomorrow. So, puwede na silang pumunta ulit sa LTO at i-click nila ang LTO tracker. Ilagay nila 'yung kanilang either plate number or MV file number,' Dizon said. (This app will be available on eGov starting tomorrow. So, they can go back to the LTO and click on the LTO tracker. They can enter either their plate number or MV file number.) 'Malalaman na nila kung nasaan 'yung kanilang plaka,' he added. (They will know the status of their license plates.) Motorcycle owners may opt to have their license plates delivered through a courier, according to Dizon. They can also just pick up their license plates at their respective LTO district offices. This was announced following the completion of the over 5.4 million backlogs in LTO's license plate production for motorcycles. 'As of this year, it was cut down to 5.4 million. Officially, we are here to announce we have already produced 5.4 million motorcycle plates, which effectively eliminates the backlogs,' Dizon said. The highest backlogs on motorcycle plates was recorded in Luzon with around 2.4 million, followed by Metro Manila with 1.4 million, Mindanao with 992,000, and the Visayas with 672,000. Transportation Undersecretary for Road Transport and Non-Infrastructure Ramon Reyes said the distribution of the 5.4 million motorcycle plates will be completed by October. 'Ang target po natin is sometime in October siguro 100% na tayo. By October this year, yun pong 5.4 million na distribute na po 'yan nationwide,' he said. (Our target is that sometime in October, we will probably be at 100%. By October this year, that 5.4 million will be distributed nationwide.) —VAL, GMA Integrated News
