Bills make roster moves impacting at least one position battle before camp starts

The Buffalo Bills made a couple interesting moves Tuesday on the eve of the start of training camp. First, the anticipated punting competition between Brad Robbins and Jake Camarda has been short-circuited with the release of Camarda. So, at least for now, Robbins will begin the summer unopposed as he tries to win the job held by Sam Martin the previous two seasons. Advertisement Second, the Bills activated rookie edge rusher Landon Jackson from the physically unable to perform list. Jackson had gone on the list last week when rookies reported back to work, but he has apparently overcome whatever was bothering him and will be good to go. The lesser moves made were the release of wide receiver Kelly Akharaiyi and the signing of tight end Matt Sokol and wide receiver David White. The odds of either of those newcomers making the team are extremely low, but perhaps they'll have a chance to find their way onto a practice squad, be it in Buffalo or somewhere else. White signed with the Jaguars in 2024 as an undrafted free agent but he missed the season with a knee injury. Sokol has bounced around the NFL since 2019 and last year spent time on the Steelers' practice squad. Advertisement Robbins began his career with the Bengals in 2023 and averaged 44.3 yards per punt with a 40.1 net average and 20 downed inside the 20-yard-line. Last year he got hurt in training camp and missed the entire season. He signed a contract with the Bills on April 1. Landon Jackson Injury Update: Bills Rookie Says He's ‘Fully Good to Go' for NFL Training Camp 2025

Landon Jackson confirms he is fully fit at MafiaCon 2025 after briefly landing on Bills' PUP list (Image credits: IG/X) The Buffalo Bills' third-round draft pick Landon Jackson has officially shut down doubts about his health status ahead of training camp. Days after being placed on the active/Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list due to an undisclosed injury, Jackson made a high-energy appearance at MafiaCon 2025 and confirmed what fans and coaches were hoping to hear — he's ready. The rookie defensive end, expected to be a key part of Buffalo's defensive front, is now set to fully participate when camp opens at St. John Fisher. PUP list no longer a concern for Bills rookie The Bills raised eyebrows on July 15 by placing Jackson on the PUP list before camp began, sparking speculation about a potential lingering offseason issue. With no official details released, fans and analysts questioned whether the 6-foot-6, 264-pound edge rusher would miss valuable early reps. But just days later, while speaking to Trainwreck Sports at MafiaCon, Jackson confirmed that he's healthy and set to go. 'I'm ready to get going… I'm gonna be fully good to go for camp. So I am really excited about it.' For Head Coach Sean McDermott and Defensive Coordinator Bobby Babich, it's a major relief. Jackson was one of the most athletic edge prospects in the 2025 NFL Draft — recording a 4.68-second 40-yard dash and a 40.5-inch vertical jump — both elite for his position. Buffalo invested $6.62 million in his rookie deal, including $1.45 million guaranteed, with hopes that he'd contribute immediately. MafiaCon 2025 doubled as a statement moment While MafiaCon is known for fanfare and beer-fueled table dives, this year's event doubled as a news break. Jackson, appearing comfortable and confident, mingled with fans, soaked in the Bills Mafia energy, and casually delivered the camp update that had social media buzzing. 'Really enjoyed… you know getting to meet all the Bills Mafia, interacting with the fans… it has been great. I've really enjoyed it — a great community. ' The public appearance also gave Jackson a chance to display his personality — something that doesn't always show on tape. With a calm yet assured demeanor, he handled questions about his body and readiness with maturity well beyond his years, matching the high-character profile Buffalo's staff praised on draft night. Jackson aims to be more than just depth in 2025 Beyond the athletic numbers, Buffalo believes they drafted a long-term defensive piece. W ith 16 career sacks and close to 28 tackles for loss in college, Jackson's productivity mirrors his potential. Babich previously highlighted his 'three-down upside' and mental sharpness. Jackson, however, is focusing on something simpler first. 'Personal goal? For starters, earn the trust of my teammates and coaches… that's the only way as a rookie you can get on the field and excel,' he told Trainwreck Sports. Bills get unfortunate injury news right before training camp

The Buffalo Bills spent a ton of draft capital on the defensive side of the ball in the 2025 NFL Draft. Buffalo led the NFL in total points across the regular season and playoffs in 2024, but their defense continued to let them down in the playoffs. They were the only team to allow the Kansas City Chiefs to score 30 points in 2024, which led to Buffalo losing the AFC Championship Game and being eliminated by Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid for the fourth time. One of the draft picks Buffalo has high hopes for is edge rusher Landon Jackson out of Arkansas, and Buffalo has placed him on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list ahead of training camp. Advertisement Jackson had 6.5 sacks in 2024 with the Razorbacks, and the Bills have high expectations for the young edge rusher. Buffalo also drafted defensive linemen T.J. Sanders out of South Carolina and Deone Walker out of Kentucky. Jackson can be taken off the list at any time, but with Joey Bosa not participating in minicamp due to injury, their edge rushers will keep fans holding their breath in 2025. Bills 'Big Human' Turning Heads As Potential Shocker on 53-Man Roster

Bills 'Big Human' Turning Heads As Potential Shocker on 53-Man Roster originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Six of the Buffalo Bills' nine draft picks this offseason came on the defensive side of the football. Advertisement While first-round cornerback Maxwell Hairston and second-round tackle TJ Sanders get all the attention, there's another defensive rookie who can immediately impact the 2025 unit. Arkansas edge rusher Landon Jackson wasn't selected until the third round of the draft, but he's already made a shocker of a strong first impression for one of the better defenses in the league. "He's a big human," said Bills' defensive coordinator Bobby Babich during the first week of June. "We definitely wanted to make sure that there was a size piece to what we were trying to do. "Certainly, he has a long way to go in adapting and him earning the right to play and carve out a role for himself, but he's doing a good job. A heck of a dude, and I'm happy he's here." Advertisement In three seasons with the Razorbacks, Jackson recorded 16 sacks, including back-to-back seasons with 6.5. He stood out during the Senior Bowl and had the athletic profile to be seen as a steal in the third round. At 6'6" and 260 pounds, Jackson is considered an oversized edge rusher. If he can add an element of speed to his game, he could become a better player than most realize. But it won't be easy. Buffalo already has strong role players along the defensive line, including Joey Bosa, Greg Rousseau, and A.J. Epenesa. Jackson will need to stand out in a big way during training camp if he wants to see the field early in his career. Advertisement So far, though, it appears he's doing precisely that. Bills Rookie Vows To Use Disorder To Help Kids Mental Health

Landon Jackson may have been one of the most well-recognized names in the 2025 NFL Draft pool, but he ended up falling to the third round to the Buffalo Bills. Jackson has the ability to make an immediate impact for the Bills, but the former Arkansas Razorback also has bigger goals in terms of his impact off the field. Advertisement Jackson has alopecia - a disorder that causes someone suffering from it to lose their hair very quickly. It's a disorder that affects millions around the world, but few professional athletes do. The edge rusher wants to use his spotlight and his platform to bring light to the condition and show millions around the world that they don't have to be ashamed of it. "I want to be a role model with all those kids growing up with alopecia," Jackson shared during Bills rookie camp on the team's website. "For those kids, be able to give back to them as much as possible, because it seriously affects younger kids' mental health." Jackson performed well during rookie minicamp, competing against eight other Buffalo draft picks and undrafted free agents vying for a roster spot. For him, it was the first time he was able to truly focus in on football. Advertisement "I know we don't even have pads on, but first time playing football since Senior Bowl," he said. "So get in the training room, get in cold tubs, get a little bit of recovery and everything, and then come back and do it again tomorrow." Alopecia has multiple ways of manifesting itself, and there have been a few celebrities who have suffered from it. One of the most well-known cases is former NBA forward Charlie Villanueva, who is a spokesperson for the National Alopecia Areata Foundation. NASCAR driver Joey Logano and obstacle athlete Kevin Bull have also been diagnosed with alopecia aerata. Jackson's role on the team as a rookie has yet to be seen, but the Bills feel confident he can quickly become a contributor. Jackson tallied 6.5 sacks in back-to-back collegiate seasons, including a 49 tackle, 10 tackle-for-loss senior campaign.
