Social media star Salt Hank's sandwich shop is great — not a gimmick
French dip is having its day. The roast beef-and-jus sandwich, long an also-ran to pastrami-on-rye, is now the toast of places from Minetta Tavern and Anton's in Manhattan to Brennan & Carr in Sheepshead Bay. It's long been a menu favorite at beloved chain Hillstone. The buzziest of all is just-opened Salt Hank's at 280 Bleecker St., the first-ever eatery from social media sensation and cookbook writer Henry Laporte, who has 2.6 million follows on TikTok and 1.6 million on Instagram as @salt_hank. Laporte's head chef, Daniel Rubenfeld, is an alum of Thomas Keller's chophouse TAK Room. It shows in how the prime rib, from meat maestro Pat La Frieda, is carefully sliced and shredded to tongue-tingling perfection. 5 Social media star Henry Laporte has opened a sandwich shop dedicated to the French Dip. Tamara Beckwith The 10-inch-long baguettes are delivered fresh every morning from crazy-popular nearby bistro Frenchette. Those credentials, and Laporte social media following, wouldn't mean a thing if Salt Hank's French dip wasn't so good. It's the only thing on the menu — no burgers or other sandwiches — save for remarkably crisp, matchstick-thin fries ($6), house-made limemade with just-right sweetness and a few canned sodas. The $28 French dip is big enough to food two people with big appetites. It delivers miraculous mouth feel along with rich, multi-tiered flavor. The fine-cut beef is dipped in jus before being layered with provolone cheese, caramelized onions and an aioli flavored with horseradish, chives and roasted garlic. It emerges from the oven warm, moist and begging to be devoured. Some customers use their hands only, but I preferred a fork to pick through layers of crunchy crust, fluffy sourdough, and yummy tangles of shredded beef and melted cheese. 5 Daniel Rubenfield (left) is the head chef at Salt Hank's, while Laporte works the line. Tamara Beckwith 5 The meat is perfectly sliced and caramelized onions add to the flavor. Tamara Beckwith The jus itself was a rich, complex revelation — I could almost have it as a soup all by itself. It's generously served in a large cup, unlike some other spots where you barely get any. T The restaurant is a plain, comfortable room with formica-top tables, a counter with a half-dozen seats and pictures of Laporte's book, Salt Hank: A Five Napkin Situation. Customers line up at a kitchen counter and wait for friendly staff to bring them their orders, while grooving to a soundtrack that hops from Notorious B.I.G. to Cardi B. Laporte himself works on the line, putting the finishing touches to assemble the sandwich. On my visit, he was wearing a cap that said, 'Lo Siento' – Spanish for 'I'm sorry.' 5 The French Dip is the only thing on the menu, save for French fries and a few beverages. Tamara Beckwith 5 Arrive early. Salt Hank's often sells out by 3 p.m. Tamara Beckwith But there's nothing to be sorry about, unless you get there too late for the 75 pounds of beef they go through each day. While Salt Hank's purports to stay open until 5 p.m., they usually run out of beef by 3 p.m. Get there early — and hungry.

Aston Villa are also noted as another interested party, with just a year left on his current deal in the Middle East. Advertisement Athletic Club, Marseille, Inter Milan are also mentioned within the report, with the former Athletic man perhaps favouring a move back to his home country, having played away from Spain now since 2018. The Gunners would have to pay a fee for the 31-year-old, with Al-Nassr hoping to get some sort of compensation for the defender. That, however, may be beyond the finances at Athletic. Advertisement Laporte is as experienced as they come in the Premier League and would be a solid experienced pick-up in today's market, in FourFourTwo's opinion. The big sticking points will perhaps come in regards to wages, with the Spain international reported to be earning £390,000-a-week, making him the third highest paid defender in world football.

Al Nassr set transfer fee for Arsenal and Aston Villa to sign Aymeric Laporte
Arsenal and Aston Villa have expressed interest in signing former Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte from Al Nassr, according to reports in Spain. Laporte was a mainstay in Pep Guardiola's Man City team for half a decade, making 180 appearances for the Etihad club and lifting five Premier League trophies. The Spain international completed a £23.6m move to Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr two years ago in a summer which saw several high-profile players move to the country. Laporte was linked with a return to Europe last summer and similar speculation looks set to continue during this summer's transfer window. Spanish outlet AS say Laporte's former club Athletic Bilbao are showing serious interest in the 31-year-old, who has one year left on his lucrative contract with Al Nassr. It was at Bilbao that Laporte established himself as a top defender and caught the eye of Man City, who brought him to the Premier League in 2018 for £57m. It is claimed Athletic Bilbao boss Ernesto Valverde has asked the club to seal a return for Laporte but that the finances involved are beyond the La Liga club. Laporte would have to agree to take a significant pay-cut to return to Europe, while Al Nassr will insist on recouping most of the cash they spent on the defender 24 months ago, putting his price tag at around £20m. While the numbers involved make a move to Bilbao unlikely, the Spanish side will try to play on Laporte's ties to the club to welcome him back this summer. AS say Athletic Bilbao, who finished fourth in La Liga last season and reached the semi-finals of the Europa League, are not the only European club interested in Laporte. Premier League rivals Arsenal and Aston Villa have both registered interest along with French outfit Marseille and Italian giants Inter Milan and Napoli. Premier League – 5EFL Cup – 3FA Cup – 2Champions League – 1Super Cup – 1 PFA Team of the Year – 1 Arsenal's focus at the start of the summer transfer window has been on a striker – talks have been held with Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko – and a midfielder – Martin Zubimendi is closing in on a £55m move. But talk of multiple defenders leaving, including Kieran Tierney, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Jakub Kiwior, means Mikel Arteta may also look for defensive reinforcements. Arsenal have also been contacted over a deal for Italian defender Riccardo Calafiori but reportedly rejected the transfer approach. Aston Villa, meanwhile, have also welcomed one new defender to Villa Park this summer, young Turkey star Yasin Ozcan joining Unai Emery's squad. Speaking during his first season in the Saudi Pro League, Laporte suggested several players who had made the switch were unhappy. 'They haven't made it easy for us,' Laporte told AS. 'In fact, there are many players that are dissatisfied. 'They do look after us but not enough for my liking. That is to say, in Europe they pay you a good salary, but they take better care of you. More Trending 'I speak from my own experience and I don't know what the experience of others is like. 'For my part, what I have seen is that they try to bring you in, but then there is the day-to-day life and that is different.' Al Nassr, who also boast all-time great Cristiano Ronaldo, endured a disappointing 2024-25 campaign, failing to win any silverware and finishing third in the Saudi Pro League. As well as picking up a number of domestic trophies, Laporte also helped Spain win Euro 2024 last summer, starting the final as Luis de la Fuente's side beat England. Manchester United have presented their offer for Aymeric Laporte who wants to leave Al-Nassr
Manchester United have presented their offer for Aymeric Laporte who wants to leave Al-Nassr Manchester United could do with defensive reinforcements ahead of the new season, given the departures of Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans. The injury records of Luke Shaw and Matthijs de Ligt are also concerning, while Lisandro Martinez could also be set for a positional change. Advertisement But given the need to strengthen up top, Ruben Amorim is unlikely to have a lot of wriggle room for a new centre-back, which explains the radio silence regarding the club's pursuit of Jarrad Branthwaite. It is likely INEOS will consider a low-cost option, and Football Espana have relayed that the Red Devils have joined the race for Al-Nassr's Aymeric Laporte. Aymeric Laporte wants to return to Europe United fans will remember him well, from his time with Manchester City where he won six Premier League titles and a Champions League. The Spain international is looking for a way out of the Saudi Pro League after spending two seasons with Cristiano Ronaldo's side, and he is prioritising a return to Europe. Advertisement While his former club Athletic Club were looking at a potential cut-price €10 million deal for the 31-year-old, Al-Nassr will try and recoup as close to the €27 million they paid for him in 2023. The report suggests the 20-time English league champions have presented their offer to the defender's agent, while Chelsea have joined the race as well. Laporte has offer from United The likes of Galatasaray, Fenerbahce, Napoli are also monitoring proceedings with interest. 'Chelsea are interested in Laporte! The defender has offers from Manchester United, Fenerbahce, Galatasaray, and Napoli.' His winning mentality could be worth adding to the United dressing room, but INEOS have refrained from stop-gap deals since coming in. Advertisement Aymeric Laporte has struggled in the Middle East, which has also seen him lose his place in the Spanish national team. For the fee being quoted, it makes little sense for United to pursue his signing. Feature image Stuart Franklin via Getty Images Follow us on Bluesky: @
