'I'm a parenting expert – follow these simple tips to make your life easier'

A parenting expert has shared some of the tips she learned the hard way when becoming a mother – and she wanted others online to reduce daily comparison and guilt It's Parents Day (Saturday July 27), a time to appreciate all parents for their hard work and selfless commitment to their children. ‌ But for those parents who feel a little burned out or stressed because of their little ones misbehaving, or as though something is wrong when it comes to their parenting, then fear not. ‌ Larissa, mum and the founder of The Childcare Guide, shared her top tips to help make the lives of parents easier, and she exclusively revealed them with Mirror, meaning you won't have to head to online social media forums to ask whether what you're doing is the right thing or not. You can be safe in the knowledge that you're doing what is right by your kids. ‌ 1. Communicate Larissa said she could "not stress enough" that good communication is key. "When parents communicate with each other about how they would like their children to be raised, the struggles their child is currently facing, together they can decide what strategies they will implement to support their child," she shared. Larissa highlighted that "both parents [being] on the same page," is so important, because the child should be getting "the same support from both parents," which means the child will "feel safer with the boundaries" and "not confused by what is right and wrong". 2. Presence over perfection She said: "Children only need a few basics to thrive, and one of those is their parents' presence. Instead of focusing on providing perfect moments, focus on being present, engaging in their fun, and being interested in what they want to show you and play. This will improve your bond and your mental health by knowing that you are enough." ‌ 3. Listen to your child "All parents are busy, but one of the really important things you can do is to listen to your child when they want to talk to you," Larissa shared. She continued: "If they are constantly hearing 'I am busy', 'not now', tell me later', then they are going to learn that you don't have time for them or what they want to tell you is not important. "This may not seem a problem when they are three and want to show you their 5th drawing of lines, but it creates the foundation for how they will feel when they are teenagers and whether they feel they will be listened to when they have big things to share." ‌ 4. Batch cooking is a saviour Larissa said there are a couple of ways to do this. The first is to "spend half the day cooking all the meals for the week ahead" once you've done the weekly shop. She explained: "Then put them in the fridge or freezer, depending on the day they will be eaten. This means that during the week, no one has to cook at the end of a busy day, dishes are limited during the week, and the bins don't fill up as quickly". The other option is to "cook slightly bigger portions so there is a meal or two that you can freeze for your children. On the days when someone has been poorly or you are home late, there is also a quick, low-effort, and healthy meal available". ‌ 5. Weaning babies can eat the same as you Larissa said: "Babies who are weaning can eat the same food as their parents, whether you are doing puree or baby-led weaning. "Just cook your meal without the added salt, sugar and honey to make it safe for them - you can always add those ingredients in after you have taken your baby's food out. Cooking a family meal instead of cooking separately for you and your baby means you are cooking half the meals, with half the washing up." ‌ 6. Don't believe everything you see on social media Larissa said "social media is great for ideas" and can give you inspiration about what to do with your children, but she urged you to "remember that so much has been staged". "Use social media for inspiration, but don't feel guilty if you are not doing as many parent-led activities as social media is portraying that others do," she recommended. 7. Parenting isn't a competition "Every baby is different, and every family is different. When you stop comparing what your child can and can't do, what you do and don't do and the rules that you implement, your stress and anxiety reduces as does your 'mum guilt'," she shared. 8. Let children be bored Larissa shared it's really important to not keep your children occupied every second of every day. She said: "Reduce how much you plan for you children because when children are constantly busy, they do not have the opportunity to be bored. "Being bored is essential for children's development. It provides them the opportunity to develop problem-solving skills, organisational skills and become creative. It also boosts their self-esteem through becoming responsible for their own happiness."

Elsewhere in the show, Larissa opened up about her tough childhood. The TLC star revealed that she was bullied by other kids. "Growing up, I was bullied and this really made me feel very sad. Kids are very cruel sometimes." This led her to pursue beauty because, as she sees it, "people really love beautiful people". "I always wanted to look like Kim Kardashian, Pamela Anderson, Anna Nicole Smith," she said.

Doctor and mum 'killed wife with rat poison' so he could be with mistress

A Brazilian doctor is accused of enlisting the help of his mum to dose his wife with poison as detectives discovered 'ways to poison someone' and 'rat poison' in his mother's internet searches A doctor allegedly enlisted his mum to help kill his wife with rat poison so he could keep their flat and be with his lover. The duo from São Paulo, Brazil, have been formally charged with the murder of Pilates teacher, Larissa Rodrigues. Prosecutors believe Luiz Antonio Garnica, 38, killed her so he could pursue a relationship with his lover without having to divide up their assets. Rodrigues had just learnt of her husband's affair when she suddenly died of poisoning on March 22 in the Jardim Botânico neighbourhood of Ribeirão Preto, Brazil. ‌ Garnica and his mum Elizabete Arrabaça were arrested in May on suspicion of causing death by poisoning. Prosecutors say they gave Rodrigues daily doses of poison to weaken her progressively and eventually kill her. ‌ Garnica has also been charged with perverting the course of justice for allegedly tampering with the crime scene. Prosecutors say he enlisted the help of his mother, who knew about the affair and was also against a divorce for financial reasons. Prosecutor Nicolino said: "Larissa had been gradually poisoned over the course of 10 to 15 days, in smaller doses. But that Friday, she said she intended to see a lawyer on Monday. "That would've marked the end of the relationship and the division of the couple's shared assets. Elizabete went to the flat and, we believe, gave her another dose - likely a stronger one - because Larissa died in the early hours of the next morning." Prosecutors say Garnica and his mother had been feeding Rodrigues soup laced with rat poison, as well as mystery "medication". ‌ Detectives discovered "ways to poison someone" and "rat poison" among Arrabaça's internet searches. Larissa developed symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhoea. Marcus said: "During one of these bouts of illness, Larissa asked to be taken to hospital, but Luiz Garnica not only refused - he forbade her from going altogether. ‌ "It was a clear attempt to stop her from seeking proper medical help, choosing instead to call his mother to bring over so-called 'medicine'. In the midst of her agony, Larissa confided that she felt like she was going to die." According to the formal accusation: "The prospect of having to split their property - especially the couple's flat - and the financial burden of finding a new place to live or paying out Larissa's share was a key factor in his decision to eliminate her. "Luiz's clear intention to continue his relationship with his lover became undeniable after the crime. "Within days, he moved her into the flat he had shared with Larissa. And less than a month after the victim's death, he formally introduced her to his mother, Elizabete, over lunch. "His actions show a complete disregard for Larissa's memory and a chilling coldness in pursuing his own interests at the expense of his wife's life."

Greek health authorities issue alert after man dies of rare tick-borne illness

Health authorities in Greece are raising the alarm after a 72-year-old livestock farmer died of Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever. The man was infected by a tick and hospitalised in Larissa, where he transmitted the disease to his doctor, who now appears to be in good health. In all, 25 people have been quarantined because they were either close contacts or nursing staff who came in touch with the man who died. None have fallen ill, but 10 people belong to high-risk groups. Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever is a viral illness that spreads through tick bites. It is rare in Europe, but sometimes appears in the Balkan and Mediterranean countries. Greece last reported a case in 2018. More than 80 per cent of cases have no or mild symptoms, but among severe cases that require hospitalisation, about 30 per cent of patients will die from the disease, according to the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC). Symptoms can include fever, muscle and stomach pain, and dizziness, as well as nosebleeds and organ failure, the ECDC said. Since the man's infection was identified, Greece's public health officials have taken samples from humans and 15 ticks to conduct laboratory testing, with results expected in the next few days. They are also fumigating the area to reduce risks to people. The authorities have advised health workers to be vigilant about suspicious illnesses and are taking steps to inform high-risk groups about prevention measures, such as avoiding woods and meadows where ticks may be present, wearing light-coloured clothing to make it easier to spot ticks, and using insect repellant. To prevent person-to-person spread, public health authorities recommend that people avoid close physical contact with someone who may have hemorrhagic fever, wear gloves and protective equipment when caring for patients, and wash their hands regularly.

Dimitri Payet charged with ‘psychological violence' against ex who accused him of forcing her to ‘drink own urine'

Prosecutors reverse decision as they now pursue abuse claims against ex-Prem ace FACING TRIAL Dimitri Payet charged with 'psychological violence' against ex who accused him of forcing her to 'drink own urine' FORMER West Ham star Dimitri Payet faces trial after being accused of "sexual, physical and psychological violence" against his ex-girlfriend. Brazilian prosecutors have charged the ex-France midfielder, 38, with abusing 28-year-old lawyer Larissa Ferrari. 3 Dimitri Payet has seen the case against him re-opened Credit: Getty 3 Larissa Ferrari appealed against a decision to drop the matter Credit: Newsflash Payet hit 15 goals in 60 Hammers appearances and was their 2015-16 player of the season. The married dad-of-four joined Brazilian club Vasco da Gama in 2023 and went on to form a relationship with local woman Larissa. Rio de Janeiro prosecutors allege he took advantage of her vulnerability to start the relationship, then caused her "psychological and emotional harm" including being violent. Police initially closed their inquiry but prosecutors reopened the case after an appeal by Larissa and have now pressed charges. Payet has been accused of causing her emotional damage through "hurtful and degrading expressions, humiliation, manipulation and mockery". Larissa made allegations to The Sun on Sunday in April that Payet had forced her to film degrading films, drink her own urine and water from the toilet, and lick the floor. She also claimed she had to take part in a fake wedding and wear a ring to 'prove her love'. Payet is said to have told Brazilian police everything between him and Larissa was consensual. 3 The Brazilian lawyer and the married footballer had a relationship Credit: Newsflash Documents from the country's Public Ministry say the couple met online and shared a mutual interest in sexual relations involving "acts of daringness and violence". The official report stated Larissa suffered depression as a result of Payet's behaviour towards her. Kyle Walker seals Everton deal & Grealish to Napoli, Newcastle & Spurs STILL ON | Transfers Exposed Her lawyers said: "This measure shows that the authorities are aware of the seriousness of the facts. "They are minded to make sure that behaviours that harm women's dignity do not go unpunished - no matter how high-profile the suspect may be." The footballer, whose Vasco contract was torn up earlier this month, could have to pay a huge fine and the costs of Larissa's medical treatment if the accusations against him are found to be true. Payet's lawyer Sheila Lustoza said: "I'm surprised the case has been reopened, as it is based on information that was already out there. "But I am confident that the legal system will recognise my client's innocence." Payet left West Ham for Marseille in a £25million deal in January 2017 after falling out of favour with Hammers fans. The set-piece expert, who has 38 caps, pushed for a transfer after claiming he was homesick.
