Pedestrian killed by driver at Boutz and El Paseo June 13
Las Cruces police are seeking information concerning a crash that killed Juan A. Haro on June 13 at the intersection of Boutz and El Paseo. Police and fire personnel were dispatched to the report that a pedestrian had been struck by vehicle at 10:50 p.m. First responders arrived to find Haro, 48, suffering from multiple injuries, according to a news release from the City of Las Cruces. "Life-saving measures were attempted, but Haro was pronounced dead at the scene," the release read. More: Man dies near bus stop on Lohmann Ave. Traffic investigators learned Haro was crossing Boutz, north to south, when he was struck by a black Cadillac CTS that was traveling west on Boutz and approaching El Paseo Road, according to the city. The Cadillac came to a stop nearby, and police interviewed the 17-year-old driver, according to the city. The vehicle was seized pending a search warrant. The city said no charges had been filed against the teen though the investigation was still underway. Anyone who has information or video footage of this incident and has not yet spoken with the police is asked to contact traffic investigators at 575-526-0795. Police seek information in June 14 stabbing on Idaho Ave. that left one seriously injured
Las Cruces police are investigating a stabbing that occurred early on June 14 along the 200 block of East Idaho Avenue. The victim, a 39-year-old man, told police he was sitting in his car shortly after midnight when someone approached and demanded the keys to his vehicle. The suspect began stabbing the victim who denied his request, according to a news release from the City of Las Cruces. Crime: Pedestrian killed by driver at Boutz and El Paseo June 13 The police did not provide the name of the victim. The victim was able to escape and ran to the nearby Walgreens on El Paseo Road, where police and fire personnel met the victim. The victim was airlifted to an El Paso hospital with serious injuries. The suspect was a Black man, the victim told police. He was about 5-feet-11-inches tall with short hair and a goatee, wearing an oversized black hoodie and dark pants, the victim said. The suspect spoke with a Midwest or East Coast accent, the victim said. Anyone with information that can help identify the suspect in this crime is asked to call police at 575-526-0795. Wildfires in Gila National Forest force road closures, evacuations
The Meadow Fire, Buck Fire and Trout Fire are burning in the Gila National Forest. The Trout and Meadow fires are consuming acreage just north of silver City, New Mexico, near Highway 15. The Trout Fire had grown to over 2,000 acres by June 13 after igniting June 12. The fire's growth was driven by wind and dry conditions, burning through timber, brush and grass. The Meadow Fire ignited June 11 and was reported around 9 acres on June 12. Firefighters were working to establish containment. Officials said the fire was burning through pine and oak trees and scrub grass. The Buck Fire is burning southeast of Aragon, also in the Gila National Forest. The fire was reported June 11 and is suspected to be caused by lightning. As of June 13 the fire had burned 16,000 acres. Portions of the Gila National Forest were closed to the public as a precaution, as the Trout Fire continues to grow. A "Go" order was issued to those living along the western end of New Mexico Highway 35 from Sapillo Campground to the intersection of Highway 15/35. Road closures include NM 15 northbound and southbound from mile marker 17, 10 miles north of Pinos Altos to mile marker 22, 15 miles north of Pinos Altos, according to the New Mexico Dept. of Transportation.
