Donald Trump says he's not ‘solely responsible' for ‘Late Show' cancellation

U.S. President Donald Trump claims he had nothing to do with the cancellation of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. In a post on Truth Social on Tuesday, Trump said 'everybody' thinks he was 'solely responsible' for the end of the late-night talk show but he said the rumours are 'not true!' 'Everybody is saying that I was solely responsible for the firing of Stephen Colbert from CBS, 'Late Night,'' Trump wrote. 'That is not true! The reason he was fired was a pure lack of TALENT, and the fact that this deficiency was costing CBS $50 Million Dollars a year in losses — And it was only going to get WORSE!' Trump went on to claim that 'an even less talented Jimmy Kimmel' will be 'next up' to lose his job, followed by 'a weak, and very insecure, Jimmy Fallon.' Story continues below advertisement 'The only real question is, who will go first? Show Biz and Television is a very simple business. If you get Ratings, you can say or do anything. If you don't, you always become a victim,' Trump wrote. 'Colbert became a victim to himself, the other two will follow.' 'The word is, and it's a strong word at that, Jimmy Kimmel is NEXT to go in the untalented Late Night Sweepstakes, and shortly thereafter, Fallon will be gone,' Trump wrote of Kimmel and his fellow late-night host, Fallon. 2:16 'Trump believes he has immunity': Colbert cancellation sparks censorship speculation 'These are people with absolutely NO TALENT, who were paid Millions of Dollars for, in all cases, destroying what used to be GREAT Television. Or maybe it's just another wonderful secret' — a reference to a Wall Street Journal report, published July 17, that claimed Trump had written the phrase to Jeffrey Epstein in a letter for his 50th birthday in 2003. Fallon also responded to Trump's post last week during the July 21 episode of The Tonight Show. 'I am your host,' Fallon told his audience. 'Well, at least for tonight.' 'I don't like it. I don't like what's going on one bit. These are crazy times.' Story continues below advertisement Colbert hasn't responded to Trump's latest claim that he wasn't 'solely responsible' for the end of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert but he did share some choice words for Trump during an opening monologue on the show last week. 1:18 Stephen Colbert claps back at Trump: 'Go f**k yourself' The late-night host read Trump's post celebrating the decision to cancel the show on Truth Social on July 18, in which he wrote, 'I absolutely love that Colbert got fired. His talent was even less than his ratings.' Colbert said into the 'Eloquence Cam': 'How dare you, sir? Would an untalented man be able to compose the following satirical witticism? Go f— yourself.'

Jimmy Kimmel challenges Trump to compete on game show

Jimmy Kimmel appears to be playing with fire after jibing President Donald Trump with an invitation to compete on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? The 57-year-old, who has been serving as the host since 2020, told Extra he'd like to see exactly 'how much the genius' really knows. Celebrity contestants get their intelligence tested as they're quizzed on a variety of topics in the hopes of winning $1M for a charity of their choosing. Kimmel's barbed comments about Trump come after the US President claimed he and Jimmy Fallon could be 'next' to have their shows cancelled after news that the Late Show with Stephen Colbert will end in May 2026. Kimmel - a vocal critic of the president - admitted he has a lot of respect for any celebrity who does take part. He added: 'I admire anybody that does sit down and come on the show because they're really risking their reputation.' Meanwhile, Trump wrote on his own Truth Social platform recently: 'The word is, and it's a strong word at that, Jimmy Kimmel is NEXT to go in the untalented Late Night Sweepstakes and, shortly thereafter, Fallon will be gone. 'These are people with absolutely NO TALENT, who were paid Millions of Dollars for, in all cases, destroying what used to be GREAT Television. 'It's really good to see them go, and I hope I played a major part in it! (sic)' In response, Kimmel posted on Instagram: 'I'm hearing you're next. Or maybe it's just another wonderful secret.' His contract for Jimmy Kimmel Live! - which airs on ABC - is set to expire in 2026. Meanwhile, Colbert has questioned CBS' statement claiming the decision to end the show was a 'purely a financial decision' move. He asked: 'How could it be purely be a financial decision if The Late Show is No. 1 in ratings?' The announcement his show was ending came after the network's parent company Paramount Global settled a $16 million lawsuit with Trump after he alleged Kamala Harris' 60 Minutes interview was deceptively edited.

Jimmy Kimmel lays down challenge for Donald Trump

Jimmy Kimmel has challenged Donald Trump to appear on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? The 57-year-old talk show host will be back at the helm of the new series as a new batch of famous faces compete to earn money for their chosen charity, and he has a scathing reason for wanting the President of the United States in the hotseat. Asked for his dream contestant, Jimmy told Extra: "Boy, wound't it be fun to put Donald Trump in that hot seat, see how much that genius knows? "I would say, 'Please, have a seat. I would love to — you know what? Any time you spend on a game show is another hour you're not being president, so I'm in support of that.' " Kimmel admitted he has a lot of respect for any celebrity who does take part. He added: "I admire anybody that does sit down and come on the show because they're really risking their reputation.' Kimmel's comments about Trump come after the US President claimed he and Jimmy Fallon could be "next" to have their shows cancelled after news that the Late Show with Stephen Colbert will end in May 2026. The announcement his show was ending came after the network's parent company Paramount Global settled a $16 million lawsuit with Trump after he alleged Kamala Harris' 60 Minutes interview was deceptively edited. On his show, following the settlement, Colbert described the move as a "big, fat bribe" as Paramount awaits FDA approval for its merger with Skydance.

Jimmy Kimmel claps back at Trump's cancellation claim with Epstein dig

Jimmy Kimmel has fired back at U.S. President Donald Trump after the latter predicted Kimmel would be the next late-night host to face cancellation, following the announced end of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. CBS recently confirmed that Colbert's show would wrap after the 2025–26 season, citing budget constraints amid a shrinking late-night economy. Trump, however, celebrated the development as a personal victory and used it as an opportunity to target his usual media critics. Taking to Truth Social, Trump posted, 'The word is, and it's a strong word at that, Jimmy Kimmel is NEXT to go in the untalented Late Night Sweepstakes and, shortly thereafter, Fallon will be gone.' He also called the late-night trio — Kimmel, Colbert, and Jimmy Fallon — 'no-talent' hosts who had 'ruined what used to be great television.' Trump praised Fox News personality Greg Gutfeld as superior to all of them and took a direct swipe at Fallon, calling him 'the moron on NBC.' Kimmel responded on Instagram just hours later. 'I'm hearing you're next. Or maybe it's just another wonderful secret,' he wrote, referencing a recent Wall Street Journal exposé about a 2003 birthday letter Trump wrote to Jeffrey Epstein. That letter, described in detail by the WSJ, was reportedly typed within the outline of a naked woman and signed 'Donald' beneath the waist. It ended with the phrase, 'Happy Birthday — and may every day be another wonderful secret.' Kimmel's comeback ties Trump's late-night feud to the wider controversy surrounding his past relationship with Epstein. It comes amid growing scrutiny after WSJ also reported that former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi told Trump his name was referenced in the Epstein files — records the Justice Department recently declined to release. While CBS has denied any political motive in ending Colbert's show, the announcement came shortly after Colbert criticised Paramount for settling a lawsuit with Trump over a 60 Minutes segment, calling the $16 million payout a 'fat bribe.'

Jimmy Kimmel Just Subtly Dragged Donald Trump's Cancellation Threats

Let's do a quick recap of the late-night cancellation drama. So, as you know, Colbert was canceled last week. Then Trump celebrated that. "I absolutely love that Colbert' got fired." Then he made an entire post about Jimmy Kimmel: "The word is, and it's a strong word at that, Jimmy Kimmel is NEXT to go in the untalented Late Night Sweepstakes and, shortly thereafter, Fallon will be gone." "It's really good to see them go, and I hope I played a major part in it!" Wellll, Kimmel responded on Instagram with a repost of Trump's "Truth" or whatever you call it: That was captioned: "I'm hearing you're next. Or maybe it's just another wonderful secret." That "wonderful secret" part is in reference to an alleged birthday card the Wall Street Journal obtained from Trump to Jeffrey Epstein, signed: "Happy Birthday — and may every day be another wonderful secret." The comment section is a sea of support for Kimmel. "Jimmy Kimmel, I hope you never retire!" one person wrote. Another person said, "I don't think it's the late night hosts who need to go." And Andy Cohen commented with a simple, "she's startin.'"
