Flight attendant, 24, dies after 33ft balcony fall as police launch probe
Aurora Maniscalco fell from a third-floor balcony at her home in Vienna and died two days later in hospital with police investigating the tragedy A flight attendant has died after falling from her third-floor balcony in mysterious circumstances. Aurora Maniscalco was at home with her boyfriend when she plunged around 33 feet to the ground below. The police have not ruled out foul play in the 24-year-old's tragic death. Aurora, who came from Palermo, Italy, fell from the balcony at her home in the Austrian capital Vienna. She succumbed to her injuries in hospital two days later, as reported by NeedToKnow. According to the police, she was at home with her 27-year-old partner, also from Palermo, when she fell from the balcony. The boyfriend, reportedly called Elio Bargione, was the one who called the emergency services. Aurora worked for Lauda Europe, a Maltese low-cost airline that operates on behalf of parent company Ryanair. The authorities said her partner is a flight attendant for another airline. Investigators are checking the victim's phone and devices and are awaiting the results of an autopsy, requested by her family, to piece together the circumstances leading up to her fatal fall. Their lawyer Alberto Raffadale said: 'We have filed two complaints, one with the prosecutor's office in Vienna and one with the Palermo prosecutor's office.' The accident happened on the night of June 21 and the investigation is ongoing. Giada Cucina told Il Giornale de Italia that she did not believe the two theories that it was either an accident or she tried to kill herself. "She didn't want to kill herself, she was dreaming of a new job as a volunteer at an animal shelter," she said. Meanwhile, a British Airways flight attendant was discovered dead in his hotel room during an American stopover. Concern was raised for Irfan Ali Mirza when the 45-year-old man failed to report for duty after staying at the crew hotel in San Francisco, in April. He had arrived there on a flight from London Heathrow and had a two-day layover before the return journey. Hotel managers eventually unlocked Irfan's room where they found the father of three dead on the bed. Police said the responding officers' investigation of the scene "did not discover any evidence of foul play" and the body was taken by the medical examiner. It is believed Mirza, from London, had worked in the industry for more than 20 years. Colleagues and relatives expressed their sadness on social media. Irfan's brother Kamran Mirza wrote online: "Cannot express how hard it is that Irfan left his parents, us three siblings and his wife and three young children behind. It's totally heartbreaking... It has really shocked me and the rest of the family that Irfan is not with us anymore. Cannot express what we are going through right now."

Flight attendant, 24, dies after plunging from balcony in holiday hotspot: Police 'not ruling out foul play'
A flight attendant has died after falling from a third-floor balcony at her property in Vienna, Austria. Aurora Maniscalco, 24, had been at her home with her boyfriend before she plunged 33ft to the ground on June 21. Her 27-year-old partner called the emergency services, but she succumbed to her injuries in hospital two days later, according to reports. Police haven't ruled out the possibility of foul play as the investigation into the young woman's untimely passing continues. Aurora, from Palermo, Italy, worked for Lauda Europe, a Maltese low-cost airline that operates on behalf of parent company Ryanair. The authorities said her partner, also from Palermo, is a flight attendant for another airline. Investigators are checking Aurora's phone and devices to piece together the circumstances leading up to her fatal fall. They are also awaiting the results of an autopsy that was requested by her grieving family. Their lawyer, Alberto Raffadale, said: 'We have filed two complaints, one with the prosecutor's office in Vienna and one with the Palermo prosecutor's office.' It comes after a British man fell from a balcony in a 'horrific freak accident' while on holiday in the south of Spain last month. Harry Watts, from Hessle, was placed in an induced coma after suffering 'life-threatening injuries' including a bleed on the brain, severe internal damage and multiple broken bones. Although Mr Watts has already had a few major surgeries, he has 'a lot more ahead of him before he's out of it all', his close friend said. Luke Coupland, who is raising funds for Mr Watts 'future needs' by running a marathon, said the young man's family 'have dropped everything and rushed out there to be by his side as their world fell apart'. He added: 'They haven't left the hospital. They're sitting there, day and night hoping and praying for Harry's health, as we all are.' Heartbroken loved ones flocked to share their condolences. Paris Hawley wrote 'we love you Harry and can't wait for you to come home safe'. Lisa Lee added 'in shock. Thinking of all the Watts family. Sending love from the Lee Family'. Carla Gibson said: 'Just heard in our local fruit shop. Can't imagine what you are going through, my oldest lad is 20 years old. Sending best wishes and healing thoughts. Hope he's picking up really soon.' Jack Donkin posted 'all the best Harry. Pull through kiddo'. The announcement came only days after an unnamed tourist was rushed to the Costa del Sol Hospital in a 'critical condition' after plunging from the Hard Rock Hotel in Puerto Banus near Marbella. The holidaymaker was then transferred to the Regional University Hospital of Malaga after 5am on Sunday, when the incident took place. Witnesses say the unnamed tourist fell from a first-floor balcony although it is said to have been the equivalent of a third-floor fall because of the area the hotel is built in. Police have not yet made any official comment but are not thought to be treating the incident as a case of so-called 'balconing', where tourists try to leap into their hotel holiday pools from their rooms or jump between balconies. Another three British friends who were with the injured man, who is described as young but whose age has not yet been made public, have been questioned by police as part of an ongoing investigation.
