There are some 1,400 miles between the flooded Texas Hill Country and Washington's National Mall. Over the holiday weekend the exhausted rescue crews in Texas, desperately searching for people they might save in the furious waters, couldn't have known about the woman in the capital who was performing a song in tribute to men and women very much like them. Her name was Lauren Daigle. Her performance was scheduled months in advance; the timing, at this terrible moment, was unplanned. As all those children in Texas remained unaccounted for, she sang: 'I hear you whisper underneath your breath / I hear your SOS, your SOS . . .'

Beach Boys Announce First Major Live Performance Since Brian Wilson's Death originally appeared on Parade. The iconic 1960s and '70s group has announced its first major live performance since founder Brian Wilson died in early June. Wilson died on June 11 at the age of 82 after a battle with dementia. Now his group will honor the sounds of Americana by performing for A Capitol Fourth for PBS. Alfonso Ribeiro returns as host, and the Beach Boys are the headline act for the 2025 Capitol Fourth, which is celebrating its 45th anniversary this year. The all-star lineup for the nation's birthday celebration includes: the iconic multi-platinum selling music legends The Beach Boys; world-renowned Motown stars The Temptations; Grammy Award-nominated multi-platinum-selling country music superstar Josh Turner; Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Lauren Daigle; legendary Grammy Award-winning musician and producer and New Orleans icon Trombone Shorty; platinum-selling hitmakers LOCASH, named "country music's iconic feel-good duo" by People; four-time Grammy Award-winning Gospel music legend Yolanda Adams; acclaimed singer-songwriter and American Idol Season 22 winner Abi Carter; the National Symphony Orchestra under the direction of top pops conductor Jack Everly"I'm honored to be back hosting the 45th anniversary of A Capitol Fourth," said Ribeiro in a statement. "It's everything you want in an Independence Day celebration - great music and fantastic fireworks. For me, the best part is always the crowd: so many happy, patriotic faces, from grandparents to little kids. You don't want to miss this party!" Also participating in the event will be Members of the Armed Forces carrying the State and Territorial Flags, the Armed Forces Color Guard and Service Color Teams provided by the Military District of Washington, D.C., the Choral Arts Society of Washington, and Patrick Lundy & The Ministers of Music. There's no word as to whether John Stamos will perform with The Beach Boys for A Capitol Fourth, but he has hosted the event three times — in 2017, 2018 and 2019 — so it would not surprise us if he sat in with the Beach Boys. A Capitol Fourth airs live on Friday, July 4, from 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. ET/ 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. PT on PBS, as well as airing live on the American Forces Network to troops around the world. No doubt Taylor Swift, who's dating Chiefs' tight end Travis Kelce, was disappointed. But alongside the game, fans were treated to exciting performances by Kendrick Lamar – who headlined the halftime show – and Jon Batiste Also taking the stage was Lauren Daigle. The 33-year-old contemporary Christian singer was joined by Trombone Shorty and two other instrumentalists for a Louisiana-inspired big band performance of 'America the Beautiful'. New Orleans school placed on lockdown due to gun scare
NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The New Orleans Police Department responded Tuesday, April 8 to the scene of a lockdown at an area school. According to the NOPD, around 11 a.m. officers responded to ReNEW Dolores T. Aaron Academy after a man reportedly ran inside the school claiming to have a medical emergency. St. Tammany Parish deputies investigate 'incident' on Tammany Trace School officials told officers that the man sat down in the foyer of the school, took out a gun but set it down. Staff members reportedly spotted the gun and call 911 but the subject ran off, entering a classroom. A 'hard lockdown' of the campus was initiated.
