Press describes her daughter as 'a courageous and open-hearted little girl.' 'And I am so proud of her,' she adds. Lauryn will conduct the orchestra during the performance of Billie Eilish's song What Was I Made For? The tune won the best original song Oscar at the 96th Academy Awards. Barbie: The Movie Live in Concert is a special presentation by the VSO where the film is shown on the Orpheum Theatre's large screen while the score is performed live. The family-friendly event is intended for all-ages and attendees are encouraged to don their finest pink clothing or dress up as their favourite characters from the film. We caught up with Lauryn Press in advance of her conducting gig: Q: When did you start playing violin, Lauryn? A : I took up the violin at age four. It was my mother's decision to play it. She also plays violin and piano. Q: What is it like studying at the VSO School of Music? A : I study with Ashley Plout one lesson a week. Then there is daily practice. ('Hopefully daily,' says her mother.) Q: You made you stage debut at the school's Strings Festival recently. What did you perform? A : I performed something by Schumann (the Two Grenadiers) and a waltz by Brahms. I haven't ever conducted before, and I'm a little nervous. After this, I don't have any other concerts coming up. Q: Did you see the Barbie movie before this show? A : Of course I saw it. And I really, really loved it. Q: Was the moment when What Was I Made For? plays your favourite scene in the film? A : No. My favourite part was where Barbie flipped over in her car and they were screaming 'Aahhhh!' sderdeyn@ Love concerts, but can't make it to the venue? No Lauryn Hill Hate Allowed: The Icon Took Over Essence Festival Her Way

Source: Paras Griffin / Getty Lauryn Hill's Essence Festival moment was not for the clock-watchers. The eight-time Grammy winner stepped onto the Caesars Superdome stage in New Orleans at 2:30 a.m., hours later than scheduled, and wrapped just after 3:37 a.m. The crowd had thinned, but that didn't stop the icon from delivering a full-out, heartfelt performance that fans loved. And the delay was reportedly not on her. Essence has since taken accountability for a jam-packed lineup and late-running sets that pushed everything back. This included the legend's highly anticipated stage moment. Despite the delay, Lauryn Hill showed up and showed out, reminding Essence Festival attendees why she remains an icon. The 'Doo Wop' singer made the set intimate and soulful. On stage, Lauryn rocked a regal look: a black and white polka dot dramatic fit, complete with a signature head wrap and bold gold jewelry. She didn't just sing — she served neo-soul realness. Social captures show her bantering with the crowd, taking song requests, and performing alongside her sons Zion and Joshua Marley. At one point, she admitted she hadn't rehearsed a requested song but gave it a go anyway – because that's what legends do. She also broke into 'Tell Him' after watching a fan mouth the lyrics. Yes, Ms. Hill has a history of being late, and many of these moments have gone viral. But we're not here for the slander. While several blog sites quickly posted stories about the late performance, many didn't tell the full story. And fans have come to the singer's defense. One fan wrote on a People magazine post about the incident, 'This performance shows us that we can stop this type of rhetoric. It's tired.' Another wrote, 'They lying! The event was behind schedule.' One fan ignored the lateness and just gave Lauryn her flowers, commenting, 'I would have been right in the FRONT.' Lauryn Hill is a legend. She's the moment – and will always take over a stage. Music icon angers fans after performing to near-empty stadium at 3.30am

Love it or loathe it, sometimes musicians are late taking the stage but Lauryn Hill has turned delays into an art with her Essence Festival appearance. The 90s icon is known for her tendency to be fashionably late but while at the New Orleans festival, her already late-night set was delayed by two hours. By her 2.30am start time, most fans had called it a night, meaning the 83,000 capacity Superdome venue was nearly empty when she finished at 3.37am. Lauryn, 50, put on a show regardless of the waning crowd and belted out hits like Ready or Not and Killing Me Softly to close Essence Festival's first day. While she is notorious for her poor time keeping, the blame for this two-hour shift was not laid at her feet. Instead, the entirety of Friday's Evening Concert Series seemed to be running late, with GloRilla finishing her set at 10pm — 45 minutes into the next scheduled act. From the start things reportedly went awry, having been due to kick off at 7.10pm with Psyrin for a 20 minute set ahead of Lucky Dave at 7.30pm. The lineup included Coco Jones, The Isley Brothers, and Babyface, who all should have finished before 11.15pm for penultimate act Maxwell to start. However, the Ascension singer, 52, was not on stage until 12.55am – a whopping hour and 40 minutes after he was due to start. Maxwell's stage was reportedly cleared around 2am, with Lauryn finally able to perform around half an hour later. 'Where is Lauryn,' asked TikTok user morgand.23 who posted a video of the half-empty stadium and revealed how late it was. Production crew has to wait until the end too. 'She's so inconsiderate. I'm a fan of her music that's why I'd stream it and never go to a show.' Tommmm added: 'Saw the Fugees back in the day and tried to see her once and learned my lesson when she cancelled four hours after it was supposed to start.' 'That's not ok and people paid to see her,' shared Prissy as Craig joked: 'Early for Lauryn Hill.' Fans commented how 'she's been doing this for years now' and that those waiting had 'no one to blame but themselves'. 'This is y'alls fault, yall know Lauryn is known for being late,' wrote Nico Rhonni as Mr Bing added: 'She does this at every show'. A Lauryn fan page defended her and said: 'Uhuh Essence Fest started late. Nothing was on time. She was not late. Let's not do this.' This comes after the Fu-Gee-La hitmaker cancelled the US leg of the Miseducation Anniversary concert series two years ago. In a statement at the time, she wrote: 'The trust and faith I have in my intentions and my commitment to my art seem to have been overshadowed by this unfortunate portrayal.' The Fugees — which consisted of Lauryn, Wyclef Jean, and Pras Michel — clarified this was due to poor ticket sales before Pras took a stance against his bandmates. More Trending The 52-year-old musician launched legal action against Lauryn for fraud and breach of contract as they shortened their 2023 tour. There have been no updates since the case was launched in December 2024, meanwhile, Pras is awaiting sentencing after being convicted on 10 counts of corruption the year before. He appealed to President Donald Trump to grant him a pardon over the charges, which involve the $4.5billion (£3.5billion) looting of Malaysia's sovereign wealth fund, 1MDB. Got a story? Lauryn Goodman slams trolls after social services called on her kids

Lauryn Goodman has spoken out about her horrific experience with notorious gossip website Tattle Life, saying that social services were even called over her kids she shares with Kyle Walker. Reality television star Lauryn Goodman has spoken out about the harassment she faced from trolls. Including some who called social services on her children with Kyle Walker, after being targeted on a notorious gossip website. Lauryn, 34, has been subjected to horrible slurs from "keyboard warriors" on the "toxic" Tattle Life site. The disgraced platform allowed users to anonymously post intimate and private details about celebs and influencers, often spreading and fuelling gossip. ‌ The site has caused irreparable harm to both celebs and wide businesses. Those affected by the site include well-known stars like Katie Price, Alice Evans, Stacey Solomon, and Molly-Mae Hague. ‌ Tattle Life's founder, Sebastian Bond, has recently been identified after spreading false and hurtful claims about couple Neil and Donna Sands. The couple won a substantial £300,000 libel payout due to a defamatory 45-page thread on the website. Fashion influencer and clothing brand Sylkie owner Donna, and tech entrepreneur Neil, received damages for the harassment and defamation suffered, according to reports in the Mirror. Lauryn connected with the couple on Instagram and formed a WhatsApp group to attempt to identify the individuals responsible for spreading the malicious rumours on the site. Recounting her dreadful ordeal with the site, she told the Mail that it all started during lockdown when she was expecting her eldest son Kairo with footballer Kyle while he was on a 'break' from his wife Annie Kilner. She alleged that Tattle users slandered her, accusing her of being an escort paid to travel to Hong Kong for sexual encounters. As her relationship with Kyle became public knowledge, she explained that Tattle users began directing vile abuse at her kids. ‌ "They have called my children so many nasty, nasty things which I don't ever want to say because it's so disgusting. They used terms for children born out of wedlock, horrible terms that you shouldn't refer any child by. "They're so innocent – they're minors and it's sick. I can't understand why anyone would do this to kids. They think they are funny with it but there is nothing funny about it, what have my children done to deserve this? Take away my part in the mess, what have they done? It's a form of harassment." The situation escalated further when she disclosed that social services had been falsely alerted about her, with claims that Kairo and Kinara were not being cared for properly. Confessing her embarrassment, she said: "People from Tattle were anonymously ringing social services. They say it on the website too, things like: 'She's going to be getting a call from social services...' and the next thing, I get one." ‌ Lauryn stated that there had been two interventions from social services, which she described as "just horrible". "They say my children aren't loved but they are, they get hugs all of the time and I read a book to them every night," she said. "They said stuff like I don't feed them and when Kairo was a baby they said I was starving him. I mean, I was exclusively breast pumping to give him milk all hours. It was horrible, it was mean and it is totally unacceptable." ‌ She then disclosed that Kinara's name first surfaced on Tattle Life, a detail she hadn't made public and had only shared with close friends and family. "Inevitably, it caused trust issues for me. It makes me paranoid," Lauryn expressed. "It gave me anxiety and it changed me. I used to be outgoing but now I'm a nervous wreck." ‌ The influencer also voiced her deep concern over how individuals on the site would track her favourite coffee shop locations or other places she visited. She further alleged that her medical records were discussed on the site, along with outrageous claims that she was "off her head on the gear", implying cocaine use. Lauryn denies ever using drugs. She added: "They contact the companies and point out bad things about people and then they get dropped and that means they lose money, this is affecting people's livelihoods and it's not fair." After her widely covered court case with Kyle, Lauryn revealed how the public attention intensified for her. She commented: "I feel like it has impacted me in quite a lot of ways, not just defamation and libel issues but it has contributed to the circus and the narrative of the saga with Kyle."
