Noon memorial in Marion to honor officers lost in the line of duty
Steve Young Memorial Lodge No. 24 will hold its annual Law Enforcement Memorial on Wednesday, May 21. The event will take place at noon at the Marion Cemetery. The keynote speaker will be Marion Common Pleas Judge Todd Anderson, according to an announcement. The memorial honors five fallen officers from Marion County. They are: Patrolman Jerome Hostetter, who was shot and killed in 1910 Capt. Edward Masterson, who died in a traffic accident in 1922 Deputy William Bender, who was fatally injured in a traffic accident in 1973 Trooper William 'Randy' Bender, who died in a traffic accident in 1982 Deputy Brandy Lyn Winfield, who was shot and killed on Oct. 14, 2004. There will be no parking available on site, but parking will be available off Superior Street behind the old City Hall. Sedgwick County deputy killed in the line of duty remembered in ceremony
WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The Law Enforcement Memorial in downtown Wichita now has a plaque paying tribute to Sedgwick County Deputy Sidnee Carter. Carter died two and a half years ago in a crash in west Wichita. She was responding to a call and driving south on 135th Street West around 9:30 p.m. on Oct. 7, 2022. Her vehicle crashed with another vehicle at 29th Street North. Investigators said the other driver allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign. On Monday, Carter's family joined members of the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office at the Law Enforcement Memorial at the corner of Main and Central. A new plaque at the site has Carter's name, rank, and date of death. Underneath her name is a bronzed replica of her boots. Her family put a flower in one of the boots. The Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office says the ceremony was about remembering Carter and celebrating her life and sacrifice. 'Her dedication, bravery, and service to our community will never be forgotten. We will always remember Deputy Sidnee Carter,' the sheriff's office posted on social media. Groundbreaking held for Cass County law enforcement memorial
Kansas City, Mo. – On Thursday Cass County Sheriff Jeff Weber, Honor Guard Commander Sergeant Talley, and Auxiliary Vice President Hill, broke ground on the Cass County Sheriff's Office Law Enforcement Memorial. The memorial will give people of Cass County a way to honor the lives of three deputies: James Holmes (January 22, 1866), James Copeland (January 22, 1866), and Kevin Mayse (June 13, 1995), who lost their lives in the line of duty. Man convicted of killing Wyandotte County deputies sentenced The project will give employees and members of the public a chance to purchase bricks honoring their loved ones who have served at the Cass County Sheriff's Office. Donors will also be able to show their support for the memorial. The cost of the bricks will be used to help maintain this memorial project. The Cass County Sheriff's Office Honor Guard is taking the lead in the project, along with the Sheriff's Auxiliary.
