Layla Kapok Pillow review 2025: Customized support for an uninterrupted night's rest
Layla is a brand familiar to many Americans, thanks to its wide range of memory foam mattresses crafted to provide premium comfort and support without a hefty price tag. The Layla Kapok is one of the brand's top-selling products, created to be the "one pillow to rule them all" with a fully adjustable memory foam and kapok fiber fill. What makes it stand out from the best pillows we have reviewed is the addition of naturally hypoallergenic and breathable kapok fibers, which are silkier and softer than organic cotton. Here we take a close look at the Layla Kapok pillow, assessing it against core performance indicators such as comfort, support and temperature regulation. If you're short on time, scroll down to find a brief summary: Type: Shredded memory foam and kapok fibersBest for: All sleepersSizes: Queen, kingTrial: 30 nightsWarranty: 5 yearsPrice: From $109 MSRP at Layla As already mentioned, the Layla Kapok pillow is designed to suit all sleeping styles and body types. It comes overstuffed with its foam and kapok fiber fill, which you can remove (and store in the complimentary bag that comes with it) to create the ideal feel, comfort and pillow loft your sleeping position requires. It provides a contouring yet firm support for all sleeping styles, especially for those who sleep on their side. Our lead tester, a combination sleeper (side and back), was impressed by how it perfectly meets her sleep preferences in terms of the loft, support and comfort, which eases the pressure on the neck muscles. We tested the Layla Kapok Pillow during a particularly warm summer with the temperature going up to 27°C (68°F) and found it to sleep neutral. Hot sleepers might, therefore, require a pillow with specialized cooling tech to combat the heat and night sweats. Additionally, we also think the hypoallergenic kapok fill will be a good fit for sleepers who are prone to allergies. The Layla Kapok Pillow starts from $109 for a queen size. Let's now look at the pillow specs and performance in detail: Layla is mainly focused on creating affordable mattresses that offer great comfort and support for the money you pay. While adjustable pillows are made to fit everyone and therefore pricier than the traditional models, the Layla Kapok is definitely more expensive than other brands we've seen. The Kapok model is the most expensive out of the two pillow options offered by the brand, with the queen priced at $109 and the king at $129. However, Layla is also known for its frequent mattress sales, which also mean good discounts on its pillows. The current 'buy one get one 50% off' bundle sale is a great example, dropping the cost of a pair of queen pillows from $218 to $163.50. In terms of benefits, Layla is almost as good as Coop Sleep Goods (which has the top bedding benefits we've seen so far), with a 30-night trial, 5-year warranty and free shipping and returns. Layla Kapok Pillow: from $109 at LaylaThe Layla Kapok Pillow is available in two sizes: queen and king. The MSRP for a queen is $109 while a king is priced at $129. This also includes a 30-night trial, 5-year warranty and free shipping and returns. The Layla Kapok has a fully adjustable fill made of CERTIPUR-US certified shredded memory foam and kapok fibers, resulting in a medium-firm to firm pillow suitable for all sleeping positions and body types. The biggest highlight of the design is the striking grey and white honey-combed OEKO-TEX certified fabric cover, made from 68% polyester, 33% rayon and 1% spandex. The slightly raised hexagonal texture is soft to the touch and comforting enough to enable you to relax. Unlike other options with gussets, piping or frills, the Layla Kapok pillow features a thin seam, adding to its fuss-free construction. The composition is vegan, hypoallergenic and naturally moisture wicking, and resistant from dust mites and other allergens. Kapok fibers are also silkier to touch and softer than cotton, so you get a breathable and contouring blend when incorporated with memory foam. We slept on the Layla Kapok pillow for two weeks testing the core parameters which makes up a good headrest. These are our findings below: Like most adjustable models, the Layla Kapok arrived in a cardboard box, rolled up and sealed in a plastic cover, and came with a cloth bag for storing any fill you remove while customizing it to suit your preferences. The fully-stuffed pillow began to unfurl and expand as soon as it was out of the package. Although there weren't any specific instructions from the brand regarding the expansion time, our tester waited for 24 hours before sleeping on it. Like the best memory foam mattresses, you might also notice some off-gassing in foam-blend pillows too. However, in our experience the Layla Kapok did not have any noticeable smell during the expansion period. Nailing the right amount of fill was one thing I struggled with initially, since I prefer a plush feel to my pillows. It took a while for me to break into the pillow and get adjusted to the medium-firmness it offered. Score: 4.5 out of 5 Being a combination sleeper (side and back), I found the Layla Kapok to be a bit too firm to break into. I then removed about a quarter of the foam and kapok fiber fill, and fluffed it up to evenly distribute the fill and bring it back to its original shape. The pillow felt perfect for both the positions and especially for side sleeping. After the slight readjustment, it seemed to provide the right loft and support, to bridge the gap between the ears and shoulders, while lying on the side. Since there weren't any clear guidelines on setting up the pillow for each position, we reached out to Layla directly. We learned that while side and back sleepers may need to remove only a little (amount not mentioned), stomach sleepers might have to remove much more to flatten it out and ensure it does not compromise a healthy spinal alignment. In comparison with the Coop Original Adjustable pillow I reviewed previously, the Layla Kapok is by no means a plush pillow. This could be because of the difference in the type of fiber used. While this might be considered a major drawback, especially for those who prefer a softer and fluffier pillow, it is also one of the advantages the Layla has over the Coop Adjustable, since the latter tends to flatten or shift easily. As an objective test to gauge its comfort and support, I placed a 10lb (roughly equivalent to an adult head) kettlebell on the center of the pillow. After waiting for five minutes, I removed the weight. The pillow took over seven seconds to return to its original shape and firmness. This is line with our experience of sleeping on the Layla Kapok, which overall maintained its support and shape consistently, and required only minimal fluffing up during the testing period. Score: 4 out of 5 Most memory foam pillows are known to retain heat, unless they also feature organic cooling materials or specialized tech. The Layla Kapok is made with a combination of memory foam and breathable and naturally moisture-wicking kapok fibers, but lacks other dedicated cooling tech to beat the heat. I tested the Layla Kapok Pillow when the temperatures were soaring high up to 27°C (68°F). Even with the Sijo Airyweight Cooling mattress protector, I did wake up one morning feeling hot and stuffy, due to the sunrise-facing position of my bedroom. Conclusion? The Layla Kapok basically sleeps at a neutral temperature and will not cater to extremely hot sleepers or warm weather. Score: 3.5 out of 5 While we should remind you that your pillows need to replaced every one to two years, it's important that the one you sleep on every night is built to last. Let's now look into whether the Layla Kapok passed this test. While the two-week testing period is insufficient to understand whether it will stand the test of time, based on the construction and use of premium materials, we think the Layla Kapok pillow is made to last. Our tester also didn't notice any sagging or flattening, which is a common failing in other memory foam-blend pillows. It proved to maintain its support, comfort and shape overall, without the need for frequent fluffing or readjustments. Score: 5 out of 5 The outer polyester cover of the Layla Kapok pillow is machine-washable. Pop it in a cold water cycle and tumble dry on low heat. The inner fill layer, however, is spot clean only. While you can fluff it up by hand, the brand also recommends putting it in the dryer for five to 10 minutes on the lowest heat setting, every so often. Score: 4 out of 5 During our two-week testing period, our combination sleeping tester was convinced that the Layla Kapok Pillow is best suited to side and back sleeping. The fully adjustable foam and kapok fiber fill will be a perfect fit for anyone who prefers a firm pillow that supports their head, neck and shoulders. Unlike the Coop Original Adjustable, this does not flatten or shift easily during the night and requires minimal fluffing to maintain its shape and support. However, we recommend that stomach sleepers opt for a softer model such as the Tempur-Cloud, which is designed for that specific position and hence comes ready to be slept on. Our reviewer also thought that the Layla Kapok slept at a neutral temperature throughout the testing period. Hot sleepers, therefore, might need something designed specifically for cooling, like the Casper Hybrid with Snow Technology, as the breathability of the kapok fiber would prove to be insufficient in handling extreme heat or night sweats. Overall, we think the Layla Kapok is a strong choice for sleepers in search of a low-maintenance and consistently supportive adjustable pillow that offers generous sleep benefits for its price. ✅ You're a side sleeper: You'll need little to no adjustment, since the Layla Kapok perfectly bridges the gap between your ears and shoulders while lying on the side. ✅ You prefer a medium-firm supportive pillow: Unlike other plush adjustable options that tend to flatten easily, the Layla Kapok maintains its shape and medium-firm support for longer. ✅ You want extra benefits: The Layla Kapok pillow comes with a 30-night sleep trial and 5-year warranty, so you can try it stress-free before committing. ❌ You like a plush pillow: The Layla Kapok remains medium-firm no matter how much fill you remove, so if you prefer a plush pillow, this might not be right for you. ❌ You're a stomach sleeper: You'll have to remove a good quantity of the fill to achieve the loft and comfort that's ideal for stomach sleeping. It's easier to opt for dedicated models like the Tempur-Cloud instead. ❌ You're a hot sleeper: Made from a memory foam and kapok fiber fill, you'll not find it to be the most cooling option, especially if you're prone to overheating or night sweats.

I slept on this adjustable hypoallergenic pillow — and it's perfect for side sleepers with allergies
The Layla Kapok pillow stands out from the others on the market thanks to its unique blend of fill, which features naturally hypoallergenic kapok fibers and plush memory foam. And, the brand claims it's suitable for all sleep styles, shapes and sizes. Fill: Shredded memory foam and kapok fibersBest for: All sleepersFirmness: Medium-firm to firm Warranty: 5 yearsMSRP: from $109 at Layla I've been sleeping on it for about five days now and my initial thoughts are that it feels as good as its striking grey and white honeycombed design makes it look. The medium-firm adjustable pillow feels like a good fit for all sleepers, especially side sleepers who like a supportive feel to their headrest. The best pillows we've tried and tested boast excellent support for your head, neck and shoulders, maintaining healthy spinal alignment so you sleep peacefully and wake up without any aches or pains. Could I say the same for the Layla Kapok pillow? Let's take a closer look at my early experience and whether this pillow really is for everyone. Layla is a brand which focuses on delivering good value for money with their mattresses and bedding. However, since adjustable pillows are designed to fit all kinds of sleepers, they aren't generally the cheapest options available. The Kapok is the most expensive of Layla's two pillow options, and is priced at $109 for a queen, while a king will cost you $129. You can often find Layla mattress sales running throughout the year that include discounts on the Kapok pillow. For instance, the current 'buy one get one 50% off' summer sale offer drops the price of a pack of two queen pillows from $218 to $163.50. In comparison to other similar pillows, the Layla Kapok is slightly more expensive than the Coop Sleep Goods Original Adjustable (our top pick for customizable pillows), which is $85 for a queen and $99 for a king. However, if you're buying two Kapok pillows, the current deal means you'll pay less than if you were to buy two of the Coop option. The bedding benefits offered by Layla for the Kapok are pretty standard, but decent for the price at which they are offered. This includes a 30-night sleep trial, 5-year warranty and free shipping and returns. Layla Kapok Pillow: from $109 at LaylaThe Layla Kapok pillow comes in two sizes: queen and king. The MSRP of a queen is $109 while a king is now $129. Currently, you can grab a pack of queen pillows at $163.50 (was $218) thanks to the 'buy one get one 50% off' summer sale. The Kapok also comes with a 30-night sleep trial, 5-year warranty and free shipping and returns. The Layla Kapok arrived rolled up and vacuum sealed in plastic within a cardboard box. It started unfurling as soon as I cut the pack open, and so the initial pillow set-up was fairly easy. Even though I couldn't see that Layla had suggested any specific instructions to follow before sleeping on the Kapok, I waited for 24 hours, following the timeframe used for our top adjustable model in our best pillows guide, the Coop Original Adjustable. Like some of the best memory foam mattresses, you can find sometimes find that off-gassing occurs with new pillows. However, I didn't notice any odd smell while the Layla Kapok was expanding. So, after the 24-hour period, it was just a matter of sleeping on it and testing it... The Layla pillow comes overstuffed to begin with and I found that it takes a bit of trial and error to nail down to the actual loft and firmness my sleep requires. My initial plan for the first night using it was to sleep without adjusting the fill. However, it felt too firm and tall for me. For reference, I moved to the Layla Kapok after testing the Coop Sleep Goods Original Adjustable Pillow, which I think has a more plush feel at first use. I then removed a quarter of the fill (and stored it in the complimentary cloth bag the brand provides) and fluffed up the pillow to evenly distribute it. As a combination sleeper (side and back), the Layla Kapok pillow felt firm yet contouring to my neck, head and shoulders after the adjustment. I found it to be great for side sleeping, as the loft and firmness perfectly bridged the gap between my head and shoulders. It never flattened or shifted, even though I changed positions during the night. Kapok is a naturally derived filling material that comes from Kapok Tree seed pods. It's vegan, hypoallergenic, moisture-wicking and is known to be silkier than cotton. That makes it an excellent choice for those with sensitivities to allergies, such as dust mites, pet dander and pollen. The Layla Kapok pillow is crafted from a combination of these kapok fibers and shredded memory foam and is encased in a cover made from polyester, rayon and spandex, with a polyester liner. While I found the Layla Kapok to be a highly supportive pillow, especially for side sleeping, it took me a while to break into it. It is an adjustable model, but I found it quite hard to nail the exact amount of fill need for my sleeping preferences. While it seemed quite comfortable for side sleeping after the initial adjustment, the Layla Kapok seems a bit too tall for back and stomach sleeping. Even though the brand says it feels 'refreshingly cool', I found the Layla Kapok maintained a neutral temperature. That said, during the 5-day initial testing period, I didn't wake up due to overheating (days transitioning to be warmer) or nightsweats. However, I would recommend a dedicated cooling pillow for those prone to sleeping hot. Adjustable pillows can need regular refluffing, but the Layla Kapok seemed better, during this initial period, at maintaining the shape and support than some others we have tried. We have reached out to the brand for any guidelines for setting up the pillow for each position, so stay tuned for the full review to know more. If you're a side sleeper who prefer a firmer headrest, I think the Layla Kapok pillow would be a great pick. The shredded memory foam and silky kapok fibers means the pillow feels like it 'hugs' your form, supporting your head, neck and shoulders for a good night's rest. I think the Layla Kapok should also suit anyone who experience neck pain or aches since unlike some adjustable models, it maintains it's shape and support without flattening overnight, even if you change sleep position often. That means it should do a good job of keeping you supported through the night and keeping your neck and spine in alignment. I did feel that this pillow would fall short if you're expecting a really plush, sink-in cushioning sensation from your pillow. While I didn't overheat during this initial testing period, I found this pillow to be temperature neutral rather than cooling. So, it might not be the best option for hot sleepers. For more insights on the comfort, support and temperature regulation of the Layla Kapok pillow, stay tuned for the full review.

Layla Kapok pillow review: This adjustable pillow is perfect for people with neck pain
I'm a frugal spender. Especially so when it comes to bedding — my eyes jump out of my head in a cartoon-like fashion when I see the price tag on a set of sheets or a pillow. As a result, I'll end up buying a $20 pillow at 25% off, and three months later, it's as flat as a pancake. I'd be forced to throw that one out only to buy another one on clearance, so after a while, I was stuck in a perpetual wheel of pancake pillows. I finally decided to try one of the best pillows in our best pillows for neck pain guide: the memory foam Layla Kapok Pillow ($109). It's downright a splurge for me, but it came with a 30-night free trial, so what did I have to lose? Read on for my experience sleeping with this pillow. Our review of the Layla Kapok Pillow The Layla Kapok contains memory foam that's plush and airy, yet remains firm to support your neck throughout the night. It comes in two sizes — queen and king — and I ordered the queen thinking I could shove it into my standard-size pillowcase (remember — frugal). Well, I was wrong. The Queen is, in fact, several inches longer than my pillowcase, but after 30 days of peacefully sleeping on my Layla Pillow, I might just splurge for that extra-roomy pillowcase so the pillow doesn't dangle out the side Sleeping on the Layla Kapok Pillow felt like my head was being cradled by a cloud. Instead of hearing the soft thud that my head usually made when it hit the mattress because my pancake pillow was so flat, I heard angels. But jokes aside, my head never sank lower than the middle of the pillow and never even came close to my mattress. This allowed my head and neck to remain aligned with my spine. It generally takes me about 30 minutes to find my sweet spot as I toss and turn on my back, sides, and stomach throughout the night. The memory foam took little to no time at all to adjust to my restlessness, and after sleeping on the Layla Kapok Pillow for 30 days, I can happily say the highlight of my mornings is watching my Layla Pillow perk back up to the same plumpness it was the day I opened it. What makes the pillow feel so plush is the fill derived from Kapok trees. Okay, I know trees aren't exactly soft to sleep on, but the fill is actually made from seeds of the Kapok tree. They're responsibly harvested and developed into fibrous memory foam, giving it a soft and airy feel that scratchy cotton and wool can lack. Plus, it's all natural and free of pesticides so I had no hesitation about coming face-to-face with this pillow every night — literally. Another problem I'd usually encounter with my pancake pillows is the 2 a.m. sweats when I'd wake up drenched. What's really neat about this pillow though, and many Layla products in general, is that it has copper woven into the fibers of the pillow cover. Since copper is a great thermal conductor, it basically attracts the body heat you give off and holds onto it so you stay cool through the night. When I was testing the Layla Kapok Pillow in the middle of spring, it was warm but not warm enough to justify firing up the air conditioner, and I remained cool like the other side of my pillow. Another bonus of the copper-infused case is that copper naturally has antiviral, antibacterial, and antimicrobial properties. Although it's not known if the thin, fibrous copper in the pillow case is enough to make a huge impact on hygiene, it certainly can't hurt to have those microscopic cleaners working to help get rid of odor and keep your pillow fresh. At $100 for a Queen-sized pillow, it ain't cheap but thankfully, the Layla Kapok Pillow is covered under a 5-year warranty. That means if any of the material, stitching, seams, or fill become defective from natural wear, you can file a claim for replacement — which makes your money go a long way. Layla also offers a 30-night trial so you can test your pillow over the course of a month before committing. If you don't feel the same way I do about this pillow, you can initiate a full refund for your purchase. What are your alternatives? Our all-time favorite pillow, the Coop Sleep Goods Original Pillow is the top pick in our best pillow guide. Like the Layla Kapok, it's adjustable with shredded memory filling. At $85, it's also notably cheaper than the Layla Kapok pillow. Read our Coop Sleep Goods Original Pillow review for more details. Coop Sleep Goods also makes our favorite cooling pillow: the EdenCool+. Even if you're a hot sleeper, the EdenCool+ won't trap heat and will keep you cool throughout the night. For other recommendations, check out our guides to the best pillow, best pillow for neck pain, and best cooling pillow. The bottom line If you're looking for a quality memory foam pillow that's both plush and firm, aligns your neck with your spine, and helps you stay cool at night, then the Layla Kapok Pillow is worth your money. Plus, it's easy to take the risk with the 30-night free trial.
