Hibs midfielder joins Mansfield Town for undisclosed fee

Hibs midfielder Nathan Moriah-Welsh has joined Mansfield Town on a permanent basis for an undisclosed fee. The 23-year-old joined Hibs in January 2024 and went on to make 40 appearances during his time at the Club. Moriah-Welsh made 24 appearances in all competitions last season, scoring one goal, which came against Peterhead in the League Cup. The Guyana international will now return to England, where he has spent the majority of his playing career having come through the ranks at AFC Bournemouth before featuring for Newport County prior to joining Hibs. On his departure, Hibs Head Coach David Gray commented: 'First of all, I would like to wish Nathan all the very best for his future career. He is good professional, and he has been brilliant to work with. 'Unfortunately, we couldn't provide Nathan with as much game-time as he would've liked, due to the number of options we have in the middle of the pitch. Hopefully, he will be able to kick-on and embrace this new challenge at Mansfield Town.' Hibs Sporting Director, Malky Mackay commented: 'It was important that we found the right club and got the right deal for Nathan to make sure he continued to progress his career. He is terrific young man, a top professional and a credit to his family. 'He leaves with the very best wishes from myself and from everyone at the Football Club and we wish him the best of luck going forward.' Moriah-Welsh told the Mansfield Town website: Nathan said: 'Mansfield was the club that stood out to me the most. I've had chats with the gaffer [Nigel Clough] and Simon [Clough] and everything seemed to make sense so it's the right move at the right time to go and push on. 'Having chats with Will Evans and Aaron Lewis, good things were said about the club. 'I've played here previously in the past and it's always been a tough game so all those things added up to a good move in the end. 'I always want to improve as a player and a person. I'm an energetic midfielder who wants to get up and down and likes a tackle.' Like this: Like Related

East Kilbride v Dunfermline: Mick Kennedy says top opposition friendlies will serve side well for League Cup

The League Two side will face the Pars on Saturday before facing Hearts behind closed doors East Kilbride players started their pre-season training this past week and Mick Kennedy's men will be thrown straight into a tough test this weekend. The Lowland League champions and newly-promoted League Two side welcome Neil Lennon's Dunfermline Athletic to K-Park for their first pre-season friendly on Saturday afternoon, ahead of a clash behind closed doors against Premiership side Hearts. ‌ Kilby are being thrown in at the deep end, but Kennedy insists it is required ahead opening competitive action at home to championship side St Johnstone on July 12 in the Premier Sports League Cup. ‌ On Saturday's test, which is a 3pm kick-off, the Kilby gaffer said: 'It will be the first pre-season friendly for both of us so it will be interesting. I believe Dunfermline have been away for a warm weather training camp so I am sure they will be well-prepared. 'To be fair to our boys, they've come back in great shape so it will be a good test. It is about trying to bed the new boys in, in terms of our philosophy because it will be different to what they are used to. 'Dunfermline and Hearts are difficult games to bed them in, to be honest, but it is a good environment for them to test themselves. ‌ 'Neil is trying to build a new team and at the early stages of rebuilding so we'll be interested to see what kind of team he plays. I imagine what team he plays on Saturday and what team starts the season for them will be very different. 'A full-time and Championship club coming here is a great test. We wanted to play against top opposition to prepare us for the League Cup. 'The Hearts game has been sorted, but it is behind closed doors so there will be no fans. That game will be a tough one for the boys.'

Wrexham AFC defender Will Boyle leaves for Shrewsbury Town

Although he had 12 months remaining on his contract at Wrexham, the 29-year-old has joined League Two cross-border rivals Shrewsbury Town on a two-year deal. Boyle only made four appearances last season with none coming in League One, as the defender started three EFL Trophy group stage games as well as the League Cup first round defeat to Sheffield United. Injuries hampered Boyle's progress and he also found Tom O'Connor and Lewis Brunt ahead of him in the pecking order. With Parkinson planning for life in the Championship after Wrexham secured an historic third successive promotion, he admits it was better for Boyle, who made 28 appearances in his first season with the Reds after joining from Huddersfield Town in the summer 2023, to seek an opportunity elsewhere so he doesn't risk becoming a forgotten man. "Boyley is another player who had a disrupted season through injury," said Parkinson. "Obviously Tom O'Connor started the season on the left of the back three and then Lewis Brunt came in, and Boyley was struggling to get fit anyway. "He didn't contribute as much as he would have liked but he has been a great lad to have around and we wish him all the best at his new club. "We have had circumstances like this before. "Obviously Paul Mullin is a higher profile one with what he has done for the club and his goals, but with players like Jordan Davies the year before, unless I could guarantee he was going to play he needed to go on loan and Boyley is the same. "Even though he has got a year left on his contract, he couldn't have another year where he wasn't going to play because then you can become a forgotten man in football, and that's important. "We have sensible conversations with these players and it was inevitable that players were going to move on this summer." Parkinson is looking to free up space in his squad for new signings, with prolific striker Mullin joining Wigan Athletic on a season-long loan. "We have got to make the numbers add up," he added. "If we are going to bring players in, we have got to make room with players going out." Boyle made a total of 32 appearances in all competitions for the Reds and he scored six goals. Away from the pitch, Boyle is on the Professional Footballers' Association (PFA)'s Players' Board, having been elected last season.

Derek McInnes makes early Hearts confession as he looks to avoid familiar Kilmarnock 'strain'

The Jambos' boss is looking towards the campaign and what will help the Jambos' get off to the perfect start Derek McInnes would love nothing more than to have a Hearts Euro adventure to look forward to. But the Tynecastle gaffer admits their failure to qualify this season could HELP his bid to get them off to a flier domestically. ‌ McInnes has been hired as Neil Critchley's replacement in Gorgie after they finished in the bottom half of the Scottish Premiership last term. ‌ That means no European football for the new boss, which he's gutted about. But having been there with Kilmarnock a year ago, he's realistic enough to know that having a clear run at the Premier Sports Cup group phase - as well as the league - could be beneficial as they look to hit the ground running. McInnes said: 'I'd rather have to deal with European fixtures, the congestion and all the disruption that can cause. 'That's what I want us to be and where I want us to be. But unfortunately, we've got to look from the outside in this season. 'And when you don't have European football to contend with, it's important you try to make hay at the start of the season and get off to a strong start. 'At Killie, there's no doubt that we suffered a wee bit last season. There are many advantages if you're playing in Europe. ‌ 'But I think, from a new manager's point of view, just focusing on one game a week can help. 'Europe does put strain on you and unless you've got a really strong squad to deal with it, it can cause you issues. If you are playing Saturday, Thursday, Sunday, your opponents domestically are focusing solely on you - whereas you are only turning your eyes to them on Friday. ‌ 'The team you are up against, unless they are in Europe, always have an advantage.' Before league business starts, McInnes and his team must navigate a League Cup group stage that features games against Dunfermline, Hamilton, Stirling Albion and Dumbarton. And the manager insists he'll be playing the strongest team he's got ahead of the Premiership kick-off. ‌ He said: 'I will play the best team possible. I might have the luxury of being able freshen the team up but there will be no playing about with the team – it will be the strongest Hearts team in every game."
