Reneé Rapp Says Her Mom Manifested Her Career By Giving Her a ‘Pop Star' Name

Reneé Rapp can thank her mom for her career in music. Speaking on podcast Good Hang with Amy Poehler, Rapp shared that her mom, Denise Rapp, specifically chose her name to ensure success. 'My mom chose my first and last name to be—well, okay, arguably chose my first and last name to both have R's,' Rapp told Poehler. 'She was like, 'Alliteration, just in case she wants to be a pop star.' Like before I was born.' She added that she's aware the decision was 'conceited,' but said 'I'm obsessed with the way she did it. I'm like, 'Thank you, God.'' Rapp agreed: 'It's a really good one!' Poehler added, 'And Reneé Rapp is a huge pop star.' Elsewhere in the interview Rapp spoke about developing as a singer, meeting Beyoncé, and coming out on Saturday Night Live. She recounted being on SNL and how some of the writers wrote a sketch where she would be referred to as a 'little bisexual intern.' 'At that time I was very publicly bisexual,' Rapp said. 'I had been for a very long time. In private I was talking with my girlfriend and a lot of my friends for the last maybe eight months before that of being like, 'I actually don't really feel very bi at the moment. I feel very much like a lesbian and it feels so nice and that word feels amazing.'' She asked the writers to change the sketch to 'lesbian.' 'Labeling yourself publicly is really, really, really empowering,' Rapp added. 'And also, I think, can be kind of intimidating.' She said that coming out as a lesbian on SNL was 'pretty cunty,' but it felt 'so fucking good' and she 'didn't even look online' at the response after. Earlier this week, Rapp live debuted a new song, 'Leave Me Alone,' at the American Music Awards. 'Leave Me Alone' marked the first release from Rapp as a lead artist since sharing the deluxe edition of her debut album Snow Angel in 2023, and is a glimpse into her forthcoming second LP, Bite Me, out Aug. 1. On the single, Rapp takes jabs at her departure from the recently-cancelled HBO Max series Sex Lives of College Girls and her label chasing her down for new music. 'Signed a hundred NDAs but I still say something/Leave me alone, bitch, I wanna have fun/Took my sex life with me, now the show ain't fuckin',' she sings over banging percussion and blaring guitars. 'Can I tell you a secret/I'm so sick of it all.' Rapp left Sex Lives after two seasons to focus on her music career. The series was cancelled following the conclusion of its third season. By that point, the singer had already moved on to headlining tours in support of Snow Angel, packed festival sets, and a lead role in the film adaptation of Mean Girls: the Musical. Reneé Rapp's 'Mad' Lyrics Release the Frustration of Fighting With Your Significant Other

Reneé Rapp is on a roll. She not only dropped 'Leave Me Alone' last month but also performed at the American Music Awards, graced the cover of Cosmopolitan, and announced her first headlining arena tour. As her sophomore album, Bite Me, is set to hit streaming services on August 1, the powerhouse vocalist is giving us another taste with her new single, 'Mad.' The song, which Reneé wrote alongside longtime collaborator Alexander 23, Ali Tamposi, and Omer Fedi (who happens to be Addison Rae's boyfriend, ICYMI), taps into the frustration we tend to feel in the middle of a fight with our significant other. Her punchy delivery is as playful as it is honest, as she sings about wanting to work through an argument so she can go back to the good vibes of her honeymoon phase. Ahead, we break down Reneé Rapp's 'Mad' lyrics and their potential meaning, because you have to be prepared for the Bite Me Tour. Duh. Lyrics written by Reneé Rapp, Alexander Glantz, Omer Fedi, and Ali Tamposi [Verse 1] Take five, we've been at it all night Not a sorry in the world I ain't already said Ugh, Christ, getting hard to be nice Not a single little curl on your head, don't want me dead Okay, I get it, you wanna be mad I wish I could take that pretty little face And shake some sense into you like Reneé sets the scene of a seemingly never-ending argument with a scorned lover. She's already apologized profusely, but is hitting a dead end when her partner is still upset. During her Cosmopolitan cover story, Reneé opened up about her relationship with Towa Bird (who could be the 'pretty little head' the curl she sings about is perched upon) and whether they fight. 'First of all, healthy relationships fight! Our first fight was probably when I was drunk. When I go out, I often stop making sense,' she said. 'Towa was trying to get my attention and tapped my shoulder. I felt nothing. And she was like, 'I've been trying to get your attention for half an hour.' And I looked over, like, 'When?' She thought I was kidding because it was so unbelievable, which I understand.' [Chorus] Hey, you! All of the time you wasted being mad We could've been cute, and we could've been stupid Hey, you! All of the time you wasted in your head We could've been having sex You could have been getting all of my time But you were being mad Instead of using their energy to fight, Reneé suggests going back to the way things were during the chorus. While she hasn't revealed whether the song is explicitly about a heated moment with Towa, she gushed about their romance ahead of its drop. 'She's my best friend. I worship her. I love talking to her, and I also just love watching her talk. There's something so special about watching the person you are deeply enamored with talk about something they find interesting that has nothing to do with you,' Reneé told Cosmo. She added, 'Which is rare, because I think I'm the center of everyone's world and especially hers—and I am, clock it—but hearing her talk about streaming her shit [on Twitch], she's just such a little freak. She's this hot, sexy, intimidating thing, but I know a side of her that's such a weirdo.' [Verse 2] Okay, you can pout your lips Puff on a cigarette, face all Marlboro red Slow down, put my finger in your mout,h pull the bitter taste out Baby, you can have me instead Okay, I get it, you wanna be mad I wish I could take that pretty little face And shake some sense into you like On the second verse, she attempts to ease the blow with seduction tactics. They don't seem to be working, as she bursts into the chorus again. [Chorus] [Bridge] Don't give me the shoulder Come get closer God, it's pissing me off I wanna get mad at you right back at you But it's kind of hot She wants to move past their issues and get back to being lovers. And, sometimes, the heat of the argument can translate into incredible makeup sex. [Chorus/Outro] All of the time you wasted being mad We could have been cute, and we could have been stupid Hey, you All of the time you were fucking with my head We could have been having sex You could have been getting all of my time But you were being mad You could've been getting head

The singer-songwriter will take the stage across 17 cities this fall, kicking things off in Morrison, Colorado, on September 23 and closing in Charlotte, North Carolina, on October 29. Syd and Ravyn Lenae are also set to join the 'Pretty Girls' performer on several dates. This marks Reneé's first headlining tour since her Snow Hard Feelings Tour in 2023 and her slew of festival shows in 2024. She recently performed the lead single off her sophomore album, 'Leave Me Alone,' at the 2025 American Music Awards in May and played slots at Capital FM's Summertime Ball and World Pride Music Festival in Washington, DC. Of course, she'll be bringing out all her hits and fan faves like 'Poison Poison,' 'Tummy Hurts,' and 'Not My Fault,' as well as new numbers from Bite Me, which drops on August 1. There's no way we're missing this, so it's time to prepare for pre-sales. Here's how to successfully buy Reneé Rapp tickets. As someone who's seen Reneé live multiple times at this point, believe me when I say this is a show you won't want to miss. I also survived the Great War of Taylor Swift's Eras Tour ticket queue, so I've got you covered with the best tips and tricks to snag tickets. Luckily for us, there are several chances to score a seat for Reneé Rapp's Bite Me Tour. Fans can sign up for pre-sale access at Reneé's official website until Tuesday, June 24 at 11 p.m. PST. As for the pre-sale, it begins at 10 a.m. local time on Thursday, June 26, while the general sale tickets drop on Friday, June 27, at 10 a.m. local time. There's nothing worse than being slowed down during a sale, especially when most of them have time limits. Avoid any issues at checkout by adding your most recent contact info and preferred payment method ahead of time. Also, check out your venue's seating chart to know which seats or section you want to aim for! Most sites only allow three tickets per purchase, depending on the artist's demand. We know your group chat is itching to chant during tracks like 'Poison Poison' and 'Pretty Girls,' but it might be best to divide and conquer if you're planning on going in a bigger group. Didn't snag any tickets during the pre-sale or general sale? No prob. Other ticket retailers might have extra seats available for resale. StubHub TicketMaster SeatGeek Vivid Seats GameTime

Reneé Rapp announces headlining tour ahead of new album

A Broadway actress turned solo pop sensation is taking her act on the road. Reneé Rapp, better known for her role as Regina George in "Mean Girls" on Broadway, announced a new headlining tour Monday, June 23. The star who, in recent years, has become a Gen-Z breakout star with the help of her fame from "Sex Lives of College Girls," will embark on a 16-city tour beginning Sept. 23. The news comes ahead of the Aug. 1 release of her highly anticipated second album, "Bite Me." Reneé Rapp says she was body-shamed as the star of Broadway's 'Mean Girls' Rapp, 25, released her newest single, "Leave Me Alone," which will be part of her upcoming album, roughly three years after starting her solo music career. Borrowing from the belting prowess a career in Broadway afforded her, Rapp leans into a more angsty singer-songwriter sound on her solo ventures. Her music mines heartbreak and offers a raw and vulnerable lyricism to fans hungry to know her outside her most famed characters. In 2023, Rapp released her first full-length studio album, "Snow Angel," and has since received nominations for best new artist and Push performance of the year at the MTV VMAs.
