Nantwen Chamber Music Festival return in July 2025
The festival will take place on July 5 and 6, and will feature three concerts of chamber music. The concerts will be performed by acclaimed musicians in a countryside setting, just five minutes from Newport. The festival provides an opportunity to experience world-class chamber music up close, with refreshments available. The concert programme includes an afternoon concert at 4pm on July 5, featuring Leclair's Sonata for Two Violins and Beethoven's String Quartet Op. 18 No. 1. This will be followed by an evening concert at 7.30pm, with performances of Arvo Pärt's Fratres, the Danish String Quartet's Marie Louise ~ The Chat ~ Gale Warning (Sorensen, Sjölin), and Brahms' Clarinet Quintet. The final concert will take place at 11.30am on July 6, and will feature Bach's Komm, süßer Tod, Paul Mealor's Now Sleeps the Crimson Petal, and Ravel's String Quartet in F. The featured artists include Lisa Obert and Lily Whitehurst on violin, Elliot Gresty on clarinet, Patricia Reinoso on viola, Daniel Davies on cello, and the string quartet, Quartet Concrète. Mr Davies said: "The Brahms Clarinet Quintet is a gem in the chamber music repertoire. "We are delighted that clarinettist Elliot Gresty from the BBC Philharmonic will be joining us for this performance. "Our festival also includes performances by an exciting young string quartet – Quartet Concrète." Quartet Concrète, formed at London's Guildhall School in 2021, is one of the UK's most dynamic young ensembles. They have appeared at venues including the Barbican, St James' Piccadilly, and Cité Musicale Metz. The Nantwen Chamber Music Festival is unique in its friendly, small, and fair approach, encouraging attendees to 'come as you are' and 'clap when you feel moved.' The festival receives no external or corporate funding, and thrives thanks to thoughtful planning and the support of its audience. Each ticket sold helps to keep live classical chamber music alive in West Wales. The festival also includes a work by a Welsh composer. Tickets for the festival are now available for purchase.
