Police seek leads after a man was brutally murdered near Beitbridge port of entry

Image: Phill Magakoe Police at Musina have launched a manhunt following the discovery of the body of a murdered man in bushes behind the Limpopo truck park near the Beitbridge port of entry. The brutal murder was reported on Monday, according to provincial police spokesperson, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba. 'Police responded to the scene and, upon arrival, discovered the lifeless body of an African male with multiple gunshot wounds to the head. A projectile was recovered at the scene,' said Ledwaba. Police said the motive for the brutal murder is currently unknown, and the killers are still at large. 'The deceased was found wearing white All Star sneakers, blue jeans, black Hemisphere tracksuit top, RJ brown belt, and a black Uzzi sporty that was also found lying on the ground next to the body,' said Ledwaba. 'At this stage, the identity of the deceased is unknown, but he is believed to be a Zimbabwean national aged between 35 and 40.' Police in Limpopo are appealing to members of the community to assist in identifying the deceased or providing any information that may lead to the arrest of the killers. 'Anyone with relevant information is urged to contact the investigating officer, Captain Moloko Setjie at 082 565 7889, nearest police station or call the Crime Stop number 08600 10111. Alternatively, information may be shared via the My SAPS App and can be provided anonymously,' said Ledwaba. Meanwhile, provincial commissioner of police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has condemned the violent act and urged the public to support police efforts in bringing the perpetrators to justice. Earlier, IOL reported that a 40-year-old Limpopo man, Lesiba David Ledwaba, made his initial appearance before the Seshego Magistrate's Court on Monday, accused of killing his 87-year-old mother. Lesiba Ledwaba was arrested following the brutal murder of his octogenarian mother in Sebora Village, in the Mashashane policing precinct. In court, the case was postponed to 9 July 2025 for a formal bail application. Colonel Ledwaba, said the murder incident was discovered on Saturday afternoon. 'Police on the afternoon of Saturday, 28 June 2025, responded to the complaint of a missing person from a neighbour who was worried that the 87-year-old was not seen for over two days,' he said. After receiving the report, police officers immediately went to the home of the missing 87-year-old woman. 'Upon investigation, they were met by a very disturbing scene, where they discovered the woman's dismembered body parts placed inside the plastic buckets,' said Ledwaba. Several items that were allegedly used in the brutal murder were also found at the scene. The suspects were apprehended on Friday after police received a tip-off and acted during an intelligence-driven operation. Authorities discovered 19 Magneto solar inverters loaded in a vehicle. The suspects were charged with possession of suspected stolen property, and further investigations are underway. Police spokesperson Col Malesela Ledwaba confirmed that the volume of high-value equipment raised serious concerns. 'Their vehicle was confiscated, and the investigation is ongoing to trace the origin of the items,' he said. In a separate incident, a 33-year-old foreign national was arrested near the Peter Mokaba precinct on the N1. The arrest followed a multi-agency operation acting on a tip-off that the suspect had crossed the Beitbridge border en route to Johannesburg. The man was caught transporting 251 boxes of illicit cigarettes hidden inside a tri-axle trailer. The estimated street value of the contraband is R1.5m. He faces charges related to possession of illicit goods and contravention of the Immigration Act. Manhunt underway after armed robbery
A manhunt for four unknown suspects has been launched following a robbery at a fuel station, where a customer's vehicle was also hijacked during the theft in Vleeisboom Village on Monday. Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, Limpopo Provincial Police spokesperson, said the armed men stormed into the fuel station's office wearing balaclavas and filling station uniforms. The robbers overpowered the staff, damaged the safe and stole an undisclosed amount of money, as well as a cellphone. He added that the men also robbed a customer and hijacked his car while he was refuelling. The men then used the car as a getaway vehicle. 'The vehicle was later found abandoned about 1km from the crime scene,' explained Ledwaba. The police urge members of the public with information that can assist in catching the men to contact the detective branch commander, Captain Marumo Lifi Ramushu, on 082 414 3244, or call Crime Stop on 08600 10111. Immigrant shop owners nabbed for unlicensed firearms
Botamo Lolamo (42) was granted R2 000 bail yesterday (Wednesday) by the Nebo Magistrate's Court following his arrest on Tuesday. Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, Limpopo Provincial Police spokesperson, said the Sekhukhune District Tracking Team arrested the suspect during an intelligence-driven operation. Ledwaba indicated that following up on information, the team nabbed Lolamo at his tuck shop. He is expected to reappear before the court on August 6 after a postponement for further investigations. • Another 57-year-old foreign national shop owner was apprehended within the same policing area of Hlogotlou last Friday for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition following a tip-off. Ledwaba said the firearm was discovered at his girlfriend's residence in Hlalanikahle Village. He was scheduled to appear before the Nebo Magistrate's Court on June 23. Limpopo mother shot during late-night trip, security guard arrested
A Limpopo family is seeking answers after a woman (28) was shot in her back near Louis Trichardt in Limpopo, allegedly by a security guard believed to be employed by a security company. Polokwane Review reports that, according to the Limpopo police, the shooting took place at around 23:00 on Friday night as the family was travelling in a silver bakkie from Gauteng. Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba says the shooting unfolded near the three-mile circle on the N1, where the vehicle was stopped by an unknown vehicle. 'The driver did not stop, suspecting potential criminal activity, and instead made a U-turn. The vehicle continued until they made another U-turn heading back towards Louis Trichardt,' he adds. Ledwaba says shots were fired at the vehicle, leading to the injury of the female passenger. Reports suggest the family was travelling with four children at the time of the shooting. 'The suspect was arrested at the scene and a Siga 7.62 rifle, believed to have been used in the incident, was confiscated during the arrest,' Ledwaba says. According to social media eyewitness accounts, the family was taken to hospital for medical treatment. The circumstances surrounding the shooting will form part of the ongoing investigation. The suspect is expected to appear in the Makhado Magistrate's Court today on charges of attempted murder. The provincial police commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, condemned the incident.
