Squid Game Season 3 Ending Explained: Is Lee Jung Jae the final winner of Hwang Dong Hyuk's Netflix thriller?

Squid Game Season 3 has dropped its final installment. The cast includes Lee Jung Jae, Lee Byung Hun, Kang Ha Neul, Im Siwan, Park Gyu Young, Wi Ha Joon, and more, presenting a promising lineup for the show's final shot at global success. With games like Hide and Seek, Jump Rope and Sky Squid Game being set up for the finale rounds, the winning prize hanging in the air, and deadly threats awaiting at every corner, the Hwang Dong Hyuk creation allowed a rich experience for the viewers. So many players, and the final winner was revealed as Player 222 and not Lee Jung Jae! Who is the new player 222, and why is it not Jo Yu Ri? Some very predictable and other surprising twists awaited fans of the Korean thriller as they tuned into the 6 new episodes on June 27. With the death of some very important characters like Kang Dae Ho (Kang Ha Neul) and Cho Hyun Ju (Park Sung Hoon) right in the first couple of episodes, the suspense was built on whether Jo Yu Ri would be able to survive as she battled a broken ankle and a newborn baby. Her player number, 222, was assumed to be killed off as she takes off from the platform at the end of the Jump Rope game. However, wanting to enjoy the games even more, Lee Byung Hun wishes to transfer her player tag to the baby, officially entering it into the game. How was Lee Jung Jae's Seong Gi Hun eliminated from Squid Game? The most satisfying end for the character of Seong Gi Hun came in the form of him choosing to save the baby, instead of letting it suffer with a father like Im Siwan's Lee Myung Gi. After pushing him off the last circle stand of the Sky Squid Game round, he and the baby are revealed as the final winners. However, he went off on a redemption arc, declaring himself a human, not a puppet to the games, and someone who can make their own decisions. Choosing to end the agony, he soon jumps off from the last step, making Kim Jun Hee and Lee Myung Gi's unnamed baby the sole winner of 4.56 billion KRW. In the end, Wi Ha Joon's Hwang Jun Ho successfully finds the island where the games are held, but the location is blown up and burned to ashes. Park Gyu Young and Lee Jin Wook's characters find their own escape, continuing to live a normal life. The winning prize for the baby is gifted to Hwang Jun Ho by Hwang In Ho (Lee Byung Hun) in a card, who is shocked at the amount. Seong Gi Hun's daughter is visited by The Front Man himself and given the rest of her father's money. Does Squid Game end with season 3? The Netflix show has come to an end with the series finale airing on June 27; however, the horrendous story continues as Hwang In Ho spots Cate Blanchett taking over the role of The Salesman, taking over Gong Yoo's job after his passing.

Squid Game 3 stuns with surprise cameos from TOP, Jung Ho Yeon, Cate Blanchett and more: Check out full list

Disclaimer: This article contains Squid Game 3 spoilers. Squid Game Season 3 has finally arrived, with Lee Jung Jae and Lee Byung Hun bringing the series to a dramatic close. Squid Game 3, starring Lee Jung Jae and Lee Byung Hun, delivered a heart-wrenching finale. By crafting an emotionally-rich narrative, the series left an indelible mark on viewers' hearts. Furthermore, the inclusion of several cameos, including appearances by stars from previous seasons, enhanced the thrill of the series. Squid Game 3: Cameos from T.O.P and other previous season stars Squid Game 2's eliminated (killed) characters Thanos (T.O.P) and Se Mi (Won Ji An) appear in an hallucination segment. The timid Park Min Su (David Lee) gets his hands on some of Thanos' drugs and ingests it to muster up courage to continue playing the deadly games. As a reaction to that, his body starts feeling weird and he feels a sudden sense of euphoria. Not being in his right mind, he hallucinates Thanos, his bully and Se Mi, the only one who stayed by his side in the game show. He visualises the duo trying to drag him down to death with them. Kang Sae Byeok (Jung Ho Yeon) from Squid Game Season 1 also makes a cameo in the third instalment. Song Gi Hun (Lee Jung Jae) imagines her stopping him from killing everybody to save Kim Jun Hee's (Jo Yu Ri) baby. The situation arises as Song Gi Hun is offered by the Front Man to kill everybody who wanted to kill the baby, who is now player 222 in place of their dead mother. Besides the Korean actors, the series also featured a notable cameo from a prominent Hollywood figure. Cate Blanchett's cameo in Squid Game Season 3 ending In the final scene of Squid Game season 3, Australian actress Cate Blanchett makes a surprise cameo appearance as a recruiter. Her role is similar to Gong Yoo's character from the first two seasons. She is seen playing ddakji with a man in an alleyway in Los Angeles when she makes eye contact with the Front Man, who watches her from a car. The scene strongly suggests a potential American spin-off series is in development.

Squid Game returns: Everything to know ahead of the final season

Season two of Squid Game ended on a dispiriting note. Protagonist Seong Gi-hun's plan to dismantle the game from within collapsed in the blood-soaked aftermath of a failed uprising. His closest ally, Bak Jeong-bae, was executed before his eyes, and the Front Man – who had been masquerading as a fellow player – revealed himself as the true orchestrator of the betrayal. Now, as the final season is set to drop, the question isn't so much who will win the game, but whether anyone can escape it with their humanity intact. Here's what to know before starting season three of Squid Game. What time does Squid Game season three drop in the UAE? Viewers in the UAE can watch the new season the moment it goes live worldwide. The show is available on Netflix today at 11am UAE time – aligning with midnight Pacific, 3am Eastern, and 8am UK time slots. Who's in it? Most of the actors – whose characters survived season two – will be reprising their roles. These include Lee Jung-jae as Gi-hun; Lee Seo-hwan as Jeong-bae; Lee Byung-hun as the Front Man; Wi Ha-joon as Jun-ho; Im Si‑wan as the crypto influence Lee Myung-gi, also known as Player 333; Kang Ha‑neul as the ex-Marine Kang Dae‑ho, also known as Player 338; Jo Yu‑ri as the young pregnant contestant Kim Jun‑hee, or Player 222; Kang Ae‑shim as Jang Geum‑ja, or Player 149, among others. What do I need to remember? Quite a bit. Let's start with the inaugural season, which was released in 2021 and became a global sensation. It followed Seong Gi-hun, a gambling addict and absentee father, who agrees to take part in a mysterious competition offering a life-changing prize. He joins 455 others, all mired in debt or desperation, in an undisclosed location and forced to compete in a series of children's games with fatal consequences for those who fail. The games included Red Light, Green Light, Tug of War, and marbles, among others. For the six games, alliances were made and shattered, and the body count rose – alongside the final cash prize. After several heartbreaking twists and turns, Gi-hun wins, but the victory is hollow. Every one of the other 455 players he had to beat is dead, and the millions he won came at a cost to his conscience. In the first season's final twist, Gi-hun discovers that the kindly old man he befriended – Player 001 – is actually alive and in fact the game's founder. Terminally ill, he had inserted himself into the competition as one last thrill. Gi-hun walks away disgusted, and learning the game is still active, vows to bring the operation down – a decision that costs him the opportunity to mend his relationship with his daughter. That's where season two picks up. Gi-hun has refused to embrace the wealth his winnings have brought him. He is living in squalor in an abandoned building, and is using all his resources to find his way back into the game – this time, as a saboteur. He inspires a new alliance, but this group is less about helping each other win but rather dismantling the whole operation. The uprising is short-lived. The Front Man, posing as a player, foils the plan from within. The rebellion is crushed. Meanwhile, outside the game and across both seasons, police officer Hwang Jun-ho aims to infiltrate the Squid Game facility searching for his missing brother. He disguises himself as a guard, and discovers the inner mechanics of the operation, until he is discovered – and shot – by the Front Man, who is revealed to be his brother. In the second season, Jun-ho is revealed to be still alive and has resumed his investigation from the shadows. Yet, he is betrayed again, and much like Gi-hun, finds himself isolated, which leads into season three.
