Sir Rod Stewart's Glastonbury star guests revealed as legend, 80, admits he almost CANCELLED festival over freak illness
SIR ROD STEWART will take to the Pyramid Stage for one final time tomorrow in the famous Legends slot. But during an exclusive chat with me before his arrival at Worthy Farm, the rock legend admitted he was close to cancelling the epic 90-minute show just days ago after being struck down with illness. 10 10 'I've had to cancel five shows because of this bastard flu,' Rod roars. 'This time last week I was thinking of cancelling. It was a close shave. I have had Influenza A. It's been so terrible. 'But my dear wife Penny and some good medical people got me through it. There was a lot of technical massaging from some very good people I know, which sounds filthy doesn't it? You've got no idea. 'But my dear wife, she said to me 'You are going to do this. It's mind over matter.' She nursed me back to health. She really is a great girl. 'Honestly Ellie, it's the worst thing anyone could possibly have, I wouldn't wish it on anyone.' With a devious giggle, Rod adds: 'Apart from Putin. I'd wish it on him.' Solemnly he continued: 'I am really looking forward to it now. I feel honoured and privileged, considering four days ago I wasn't going to make it.' Rod's slot is gearing up to be one of the best Legend slots Glastonbury has seen for years and the Maggie May singer — who has enjoyed six No1 singles in his career — has got a treat lined up for fans with his guests. 'Mick Hucknall and I are going to come up and sing She Was Only A Pilot's Daughter But She Kept Her Cockpit Clean,' Rod roars with laughter. 'Only joking. We are going to sing If You Don't Know Me By Now. And then Lulu is coming on. 'She is going to sing Hot Legs and then Ronnie Wood is coming on with me and Lulu to do Stay With Me.' We're really sounding good. 'All three of my guests are in excellent form and are playing well. We had the best rehearsal yesterday.' Rod sounds fighting fit and raring to go as we chat on the phone, him from his home in Essex and me in the blazing sunshine down at Worthy Farm. 'I don't know what I am going to wear, darling,' Rod laughs. 'It is so hot. I'm so excited. The Glastonbury people have been very good to me. 'I only had an hour and 15 and I said, 'Mate, I can't do an hour and 15, I've got so many songs people want to hear,' and, bless them, they gave me another 15 minutes which was wonderful. 'I've got 20 odd songs on the set list and it's usually 29. There are so many songs I can't do. "And we're not just doing slow ones. We're doing three fast songs, then some slow ones, and then some fast ones to keep it all going.' Rod will be joined on the farm by his family for the iconic slot, which is expected to draw in a crowd of 250,000 people on site — as well as millions tuning in at home. 'Penny will be out the front,' Rod explains. Then three of my kids are already on site. 'We're so excited' 'Ruby has come, Renee and Alistair are there. And Aiden will be there. That's four out of the eight. 'I'm driving down on Saturday evening and I am staying in Bath. 'We're going to have a good band p***-up the night before.' Rod — who last played Glastonbury back in 2002 — says the sight of his band stepping foot on the farm is one thing he's really looking forward to. 'We are all so excited but I have done it before,' Rod explains. 'But all the guys in my band have never done it apart from the drummer. 'And I've got six girls in the band and they are beside themselves with excitement because they're American — they never thought they'd get on the Glastonbury stage. 'I'm honestly more happy for the band than I am for myself. It feels a privilege. I can't wait.' We've got our Rod wigs ready and will be down the front with Penny to watch the legend himself tomorrow. Bring it on. LORDE celebrated the release of new album Virgin by playing it from start to finish in a surprise set. She opened the Woodsies stage yesterday morning but after news of her show was leaked, the area was closed off almost an hour before she took to the stage, as thousands flocked there. 10 But the Kiwi singer, dressed in a white T-shirt and matching trousers, admitted she thought she might never return with music after struggling following the release of her third record Solar Power. She told the crowd: 'This is f***ing sick. 'I decided to play the entire record for you front to back. 'I didn't know if I would make another record, but I'm back here. 'I'm so grateful for you for waiting. It's going to be a sick festival.' PLAQUE FOR GOOD, ROBBIE? ROBBIE WILLIAMS got fans' hopes up that he would be performing again at the festival when he shared a photo of this fake blue plaque on Instagram. It marked 30 years since Rob 'entered this area without accreditation, authorisation, or alignment with prevailing taste. His presence was uninvited, unofficial and ultimately inevitable.' 10 The singer caused a stir in 1995 when he attended Glasto fresh from quitting Take That. The singer has only played there once in 1998. But the Rock DJ singer sadly swerved a return to the event this year. PALOMA FAITH is popping her Glastonbury cherry as a punter. The Only Love Can Hurt Like This singer, who performed on the Pyramid Stage last year, is at Worthy Farm this weekend and told our Jack she's looking forward to not working. Paloma said: 'This year is going to be the first year of my life that I've ever been to Glastonbury as a punter. 'I'm camping. 'I'm doing the whole thing. 'To be honest I've been dreading it. 'The reason why I've never done a festival before is because I don't like the thought of camping. 'But then I thought, 'I can't knock it until I've tried it.'' Asked if she was slumming in a £10 tent from Argos or in one of the push yurts, Paloma said with a grin: 'It is quite posh,' before asking: 'What's a yurt? Mine's glamping.' Giving her best festival confession, Paloma added: 'I went to a festival before I was signed to a record label. 'My boyfriend forgot the bedding. 'I was fuming and as I had a gig I made him sleep naked and I used his clothes as a duvet. 'He was shivering.' JAMES NORTON had me – and plenty of others – howling as he joined other celebs in reading out letters yesterday. The actor was among a string of stars, including Simon Pegg and Benedict Cumberbatch, on the Greenpeace Stage for Letters Live. 10 10 He read a 2013 one to a newspaper about disgraced cyclist Lance Armstrong. James, who is dating singer Lily Allen, read out: 'I think it is just terrible and disgusting how everyone continues to treat Lance Armstrong – especially after what he achieved by winning seven Tour de France races while competing on drugs. 'The last time I was on drugs, I couldn't even find my bike.' I reckon there'll be a fair few people in that state on Worthy Farm. CHARLI'S EARLY TO THE PARTY TONIGHT'S Other Stage headliner Charli XCX has been on site since Thursday, making the most of her weekend at Worthy Farm. Joined by her fiancé, The 1975 drummer George Daniel – whose band headlined the Pyramid Stage last night – Charli was seen strutting through hospitality on Thursday before heading up to the Woodsies Stage where they checked out Daniel Avery's set. They then slipped backstage at the Pyramid to a staff area to relax away from prying eyes. Speaking to Bizarre, Charli said: 'I'm trying to keep a low profile. I'm here to have fun.' Yesterday, Charli was up early cheering on pal Lorde from the side of the stage for her secret set at Woodsies.

Rod Stewart issues disappointing Glastonbury announcement as fans left gutted
Rod Stewart has revealed that he begged Glastonbury bosses for a different outcome. Sir Rod Stewart has shared a disappointing update about his Glastonbury performance which is sure to leave fans gutted. The Maggie May hitmaker revealed he has been begging festival bosses for more time on stage this weekend as he performs the coveted Legends Slot on Sunday evening. The 80-year-old said he doesn't have any announcements during his highly anticipated set, meaning that his interactions with the crowd will be limited, and not all of his famous hits will be played within his allocated time frame at Worthy Farm on June 29. The announcement comes after a dispute over the time that Rod would have on stage with the rock icon managing to negotiate an additional 15 minutes set to one hour and a half after he was originally offered 75 minutes. Despite the additional minutes, it's still not enough time for Rod to fire out all of his classic hits on the Pyramid Stage so he wants to limit his talking time in between tunes to "get in as many songs" as he can, the Express reports. Explaining his plan for the show, Rod told the BBC: "Usually I do well over two hours so there's still a load of songs we won't be able to do. But we've been working at it. "I'm not gonna make any announcements between songs. I'll do one number, shout 'next', and go straight into the next one. I'm going to get in as many songs I can." Despite the odd track being missed, Rod promised his fans that his Glastonbury set will be "special". He said: "I'm really looking forward to it. And it is a different gig. "It's like when you're playing a cup final: you're trying to treat it like another game. But, of course, it's not. It's special. "It'll be glamorous, it'll be sexy. Not me - I'm talking about the other members of the group! "And we've got a little orchestra coming on to play with us. And we may have some bagpipes." The Da Ya Think I'm Sexy singer previously confessed he had "begged" the Glastonbury bosses for more time on stage. He told the Radio Times: "It's difficult because they only gave me an hour-and-a-quarter slot. "So I begged them: can I do another 15 minutes? Because usually I play for two hours." Rod headlined Glastonbury Festival back in 2002 and is now making his return 23 years later. His upcoming set will make him the first artist to top both the bill at the Pyramid Stage and play the now iconic tea time slot. Other Glastonbury headliners this weekend include the 1975, Neil Young and the Chrome Hearts and Olivia Rodrigo.

Lewis Capaldi backed to front Glastonbury secret set amid rumours of his return to music
Glastonbury Festival kicks off next week and fans believe Lewis Capaldi will be the surprise act in the TBA slot. Glastonbury 2025 is now just mere days away with the iconic musical festival at Worthy Farm in Pilton set to kick off on Wednesday June 25. However, most fans will most be looking forward to the weekend as headliners the 1975, Olivia Rodrigo and Neil Young all take to the Pyramid Stage while Rod Stewart will be playing the coveted Legends Slot on the Sunday. With just days left to go, fans are eagerly waiting in anticipation to discover which music stars will play the TBA (To be Announced) sets next weekend with a new survey from Spin Genie revealing the acts Brits are backing to see take the stage. Among them is the beloved Lewis Capaldi, who is one of the top tipped names. The 28-year-old has been taking a break from the limelight after his 2023 Glastonbury performance which saw the Scots singer heavily relying on fans to finish his set for him as he was seen visibly struggling with his Tourette's Syndrome. However, Lewis is not the number one favourite on the list, with the survey revealing there is one other major pop star that fans are rooting to see perform. The runaway favourite is currently Lady Gaga, following her record breaking performance on Copacabana beach in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil last month where she played to an estimated 2.5M people for free. The Bad Romance hitmaker stormed to the top spot with 27 per cent of the votes from respondents. However, there were some other unexpected names thrown into the mix. Other mentioned stars include the Killers with 12 per cent of votes and Pulp at 10 percent while Chappell Roan was backed by 7 percent of votes. The most shocking result of all was undoubtedly actor Timothée Chalamet who received 4% of the vote. The American star who recently played the leading role of Bob Dylan in his biopic 'A Complete Unknown' appears to have impressed fans with his singing talents as they are holding out for a surprise Dylan medley from the Hollywood icon at the festival. Here are the full results of the survey below. Survey results: Who do you think will play a secret set at Glastonbury this year? Lady Gaga - 27% Lewis Capaldi - 22% The Killers - 12% Pulp - 10% Kings of Leon - 10% Chappell Roan - 7% Timothée Chalamet - 4% Troye Sivan - 3% Haim - 3% The XX - 2% Speculation that Capaldi could be the surprise act for this year comes amid Rod Stewart's announcement he will be bringing three secret guests on stage with him. The singer has been laying low for a few years after cancelling all of his 2023 tour dates to focus on his health. However, there are rumours he is making a slow return back to music. Just last month he delighted fans by making a surprise appearance at Tom Walker's gig at the Assembly Rooms in Edinburgh in honour of a leading mental health charity. Capaldi performed six songs, including 2019 hit Someone You Loved, in aid of the Campaign Against Living Miserably (Calm), a mental health charity he has previously raised funds for. Could Lewis be back for Glastonbury round two? Fans will need to wait and see until next weekend.

Rod Stewart launches blistering attack against former pal Donald Trump
Sir Rod Stewart has never shied away from sharing what's really on his mind, and now his former pal and neighbour, none other than President Donald Trump, has come under fire Sir Rod Stewart has furiously hit out at his former friend and neighbour, President Donald Trump – and he didn't hold back. The legendary rockstar who is currently preparing to play the iconic Legends Slot at Glastonbury Festival this month had previously partied with the reality star turned President, but he's no longer on his Christmas card list. Rod, 80, has a home neighbouring Trump's estate in Florida, and would often attend events held by Donald and his wife, Melania, but nowadays, it's safe to say that they're no longer on speaking terms. In a new interview, the Maggie May singer said that their estates are less than a mile apart, but he's "not a great fan" of the controversial President. While there are aspects of Trump that Rod liked, there are a few things that have angered him over the years, including his presidency. "I'm not a great fan of Trump. I knew him very, very well. I used to go to his house," Sir Rod said. He went on to add: "I live literally half a mile away." Speaking to Radio Times, he continued: "We're both on the beach. I used to go to his Christmas parties. He's always been a bit of a man's man. I liked him for that. But he didn't, as far as I'm concerned, treat women very well." However, Sir Rod believes that since becoming President, Trump has completely changed. "He became another guy. Somebody I didn't know," he stated. But could he possibly reconsider his views on Donald and become friends again? Sir Rod said: "No, I can't anymore. As long as he's selling arms to the Israelis — and he still is. How's that war ever gonna stop?" One thing is for certain, though: Rod is going to be pulling out all the stops for his Legends performance. Glastonbury bosses had initially given him a slot of an hour and a quarter, but he pleaded with them to add an extra 15 minutes as his performances are normally around two hours. Speaking about this, he explained: "It means that there's a lot of songs that people love that I won't be able to play – and I've got three guests coming on." Rod previously revealed he's planning a mini-reunion with his band, Faces. Rolling Stones icon Ronnie Wood will be heading to Worthy Farm in Somerset to join him on stage. Speaking on The Peter Crouch podcast, when asked if he's in touch with The Stones or Sir Elton John, he responded: "Not really, but Woody and I do a lot just recently because we are going to do Glastonbury together." Fans, however, had been concerned ahead of Rod's performance after he was force to pull out of several of his Las Vegas shows due to ill health. Earlier this month, he told fans on social media: "I'm awfully sorry to have to cancel my show June 5th at The Colosseum at Caesar's Palace. My doctor ordered a bit more rest while I recover from the flu. Thanks for your love and understanding. – Rod," as he signed off with a broken heart emoji.
