M69 traffic: Busy motorway used by 100,000 drivers per day SHUTS due to ‘serious crash' as emergency crews swoop
A "SERIOUS" crash has left a major motorway closed this morning - with delays for "several hours". Police and ambulance crews scrambled to the scene on the M69 in Leicestershire just before 1am on Saturday. Recovery vehicles have also been called to the northbound carriageway between junction 1 (Hinckley) and the M1 link at junction 21. National Highways said: "The M69 is closed northbound between between J1 (Hinckley) and the M1 link at J21 due to a serious collision. "Leicestershire Police and National Highways Traffic Officers are currently on scene. "Due to ongoing police investigations the closure will remain in place for several hours." 1

Man arrested after 'flipping over BMW and attacking woman outside hospital'
A motorist has been arrested on suspicion of murder after allegedly flipping a BMW, then attacking a woman outside a hospital in Leicester. The woman, in her 50s, was walking down the road just after 5.30pm on Tuesday when the crash happened near the traffic lights junction in Aylestone Road, said Leicestershire Police. Minutes later the man driving the car, got out of the vehicle, ran down Aylestone Road, before allegedly attacking the woman on the pavement outside Leicester Royal Infirmary. She was taken to Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham with life threatening injuries, where she sadly died yesterday afternoon. Police said it is not believed the alleged attacker and the victim were known to each other. A 23-year-old man, who was detained at the scene, was initially arrested on suspicion of attempted murder but has now been arrested on suspicion of murder. He was also arrested for possession with intent to supply class B drugs, assault of an emergency worker, dangerous driving, driving while unfit through drugs and failing to provide a specimen. Detective Inspector Emma Matts, from East Midlands Special Operations Unit Murder Investigation team said yesterday: 'This woman was sadly subjected to a serious assault and was taken to hospital with life threatening injuries. Her family and close friends have remained at her bedside and tragically she died this afternoon. 'Since the incident, a dedicated team of detectives have worked tirelessly pursuing all lines of enquiry to establish the full circumstances around what happened. Those enquiries will very much continue as we now move the incident to a murder investigation.' She thanked members of the public who have been in touch with information, adding: 'I would also still like to appeal to anyone who saw anything connected to this incident or filmed any footage – whether that was of the vehicle being driven beforehand through the city centre, the collision itself or the assault – and hasn't spoken to officers to please get in touch. Woman in her 50s who was attacked moments after car crash dies – as ‘fleeing drug driver', 23, arrested over ‘murder'
A 23-YEAR-OLD 'man 'drug driver' has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman died. The woman in her 50s was allegedly assaulted after a road traffic accident and has since sadly died. On June 24 just after 5:30pm, Leicestershire Police were called to Aylesbury Road after a vehicle overturned. The driver was seen leaving the vehicle and running down the road before assaulting a woman near Leicester Royal Infirmary. 1 She was left with life threatening injuries, and later died on the afternoon of June 26. The driver was detained at the scene and arrested by police. He was initially charged with: Suspicion of attempted murder Possession with intent to supply class B drugs Assault of an emergency worker Dangerous driving Driving while unfit through drugs Failing to provide a specimem He has since been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody. Woman is fighting for her life after 'BMW driver flipped car and then attacked her' as she walked down the street
A woman has been left fighting for her life after she was allegedly attacked by a man who had just crashed a car and rolled it onto its roof. A 23-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following the horror assault which happened at around 5.30pm on Tuesday in Leicester. The victim, a woman in her 50s, was walking down the street when she was attacked, police have said. She was rushed to Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham where she is being treated for life-threatening injuries. It came after police received a call that a white BMW 1 series had overturned on Aylestone Road near to the junction with Welford Road and the Voco hotel. Minutes later the driver was seen running away from the vehicle and down the street towards the Leicester Royal Infirmary. The man then allegedly assaulted the woman and was detained by officers at the scene, police have said. He remains in police custody. As well as attempted murder, the 23-year-old has been accused of possession with intent to supply class B drugs, assault of an emergency worker, dangerous driving, driving while unfit through drugs and failing to provide a specimen. He is currently in police custody. Police raid uncovers 'large cannabis factory'
A cannabis grow worth £60,000 has been seized by officers following a raid at property in Leicestershire. Leicestershire Police said it executed a warrant at an address on Oakham Road, near Tilton-on-the-Hill at about 09:30 BST on Monday. Officers found the "large cannabis factory" in a "specially designed outbuilding", the force added. Four people were arrested but have since been bailed pending further investigation. A 62-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of cultivation of cannabis and possession of a class B drug with intent to supply. A 29-year-old man was detained on suspicion of cultivation of cannabis, while a 39-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of cultivation of cannabis and being concerned in the supply of a class B drug. A third man, 26, was held on suspicion of cultivation of cannabis, possession of a class B drug with intent to supply and abstracting/using electricity without authority.
