NRL coach is busted on video losing his mind at his players for daring to take a shower
Gold Coast coach Des Hasler has been caught giving his players an epic spray in the sheds at Leichhardt Oval following his side's narrow loss to the Tigers. Cameras captured Hasler's explosive tirade following the match as he was seen ordering some of them to get out of the showers. Players looked on in shock as a clearly furious Hasler unleashed at some of his stars, although it is not known what he was saying. The coach's almighty spray came after a shocking day for the Titans, who were leading 20-16 with four minutes left in the match. However, a late try to Jeral Skelton evened things up before Adam Doueihi slotted a field goal from 25 metres out to win it with 15 seconds left. The result piles more pressure on Hasler, with Gold Coast now officially out of finals contention and alone in last place on the NRL ladder. Speaking post-game to media, Hasler was particularly unhappy with the side's second half. 'We go out and bumble, we fumble, we throw balls over the sideline and get carried over the sideline,' he said. 'We can't land on the bouncing ball. We miss tackles and complete nine from 15 [sets]. 'I'm really disappointed with that performance. It was pretty dumb.' Meanwhile, finals action also looks unlikely for the Tigers, despite the victory. They would need to go undefeated though the final seven rounds to have any hope of snapping a 14-year drought. But another spoon now at least appears out the window, up in 12th spot and four points clear of the Titans, with a bye still in hand. 'It's more frustrations around where we think we could have been, where we could be, and where we are,' Benji Marshall said. 'It was important to get the two points today. I don't want to say about how we got it, but we got it. 'If I'm being honest I thought today was our worst game. We didn't play anywhere near our standard of doing things. 'In the first half we were looking for things that weren't there, and it looked like our heads weren't on the job.' The Tigers made 14 errors and the Titans 12, while the hosts were also guilty of having their attack appear disjointed at times. The bright spot for the Tigers was mid-season pick-up Taylan May, who scored one try and set up the team's other two in his first NRL game in 14 months.

Gold Coast Titans coach Des Hasler blows up at players in the shower
Gold Coast Titans coach Des Hasler was not happy after his side fell to the Wests Tigers 21-20 on Sunday. The Tigers trailed 20-16 with five minutes left but levelled it up when Jeral Skelton crossed in the left corner. Doueihi would miss the subsequent sideline conversion but became the hero just minutes later. Doueihi kicked the matchwinning field goal in the dying seconds as celebrations broke out at Leichhardt Oval. Hasler was left seething after the loss and his frustration boiled over in a fiery locker room moment that was captured on camera. As Hasler entered the rooms to address his playing group, he was left infuriated by the sounds of the showers running. The 64-year-old exploded into a fit of rage as he shouted at the players in the showers, forcing them to walk out and sit with the playing group. The vision was shown on Sunday Night with Matty Johns with Bryan Fletcher making jokes at the players who were scolded. 'I think he's blowing up because they're all showering in their undies,' Bryan Fletcher quipped. Hasler's frustration was just as evident during his post-match press conference as he lamented several 'dumb' mistakes by his playing group. 'It's really disappointing that in the second half we fumble, we bumble, we miss tackles, we throw balls over the sideline, we get carried over the sideline and we complete 9 from 15 sets. 'I'm really disappointed in that performance. It was really dumb. 'We didn't need luck. There was the scrum penalty and three knock ons that the referee missed, but I'm not going to blame the loss entirely on the referee's performance. 'We didn't help ourselves.'

Tigers can help make Taylan May better person: Marshall
Benji Marshall says Wests Tigers want to help Taylan May become a better person as the troubled centre prepares for his NRL comeback. After impressing in NSW Cup games on a train-and-trial deal, May will run out against Gold Coast on Sunday for his first game since round 10 last year. The game at Leichhardt Oval comes a little more than a year after Penrith released the 23-year-old in the wake of several off-field indiscretions. May had domestic violence charges against him dropped in March, after his wife who had accused him of punching did not show up in court. Tigers coach Marshall incorrectly said on Saturday that May had been found not guilty in court. May had pleaded not guilty to the charges and has since spent time in a mental health facility undergoing treatment. Marshall felt the Tigers had an opportunity to help May get his life, not just his footballing career, back on track. After a Hatrick of tries last week in @NSWCup for @westsmagpies Taylan May will make his debut for @WestsTigers this week along side his brother vs @GCTitans 🏉 — Western Suburbs Magpies (@westsmagpies) July 16, 2025 "This is not just a story about what's best footy-wise, this is also helping a person become a better person," he said. "There's a lot of things that Taylan's committed to off the field to help turn his life around. Part of that helps you on the field. "Everyone has their struggles in life, everyone has their dramas away from footy, but we treat everyone as people and then athletes second. We're happy to have him in the team." Marshall has been impressed by May's work ethic since he joined forces with brother and prop forward Terrell at the Tigers. "It probably runs in their family, they love training hard, they don't really have many days off those guys," Marshall said. "We're excited to see him go around but it's his first game back from a long lay-off so we're not expecting miracles." A loss on Sunday would be another blow to the last-placed Titans' hopes of avoiding the wooden spoon. Coach Des Hasler is under mounting pressure as speculation increases that he won't be on board in 2026 for the final year of his contract. Hasler has called such reports "unfounded" and forward Beau Fermor said the coach should not take the blame for the side's failures. "It's probably not showing on the field, but Des isn't the one that's out there missing tackles, dropping balls and all of those things that are letting us down on the weekend," Fermor said. "He puts in more effort than anyone else at this club. I don't think it's Des' fault that we're sitting where we are, it's us as a playing group and we need to stick together and work our way out of it."

Brand-new $828million footy stadium is facing being shut down for SIX WEEKS due to shocking problem
Allianz Stadium officials have told Sydney FC to prepare for the prospect of the $828million venue being unavailable for part of the summer if a report calls for a significant fix to drainage issues. Less than three years after the opening of Australia's most expensive rectangular stadium build, an investigation is continuing into repeated problems with the field. Venues NSW, who operate the ground, expect to have the outcome of that report by the end of this month. Multiple scenarios are being worked through for the potential fix of the issue, as officials attempt to identify at which layer of the turf build the problem exists. The most extreme scenario would be if the issue was found to exist in the stadium's underground drainage. It could take at least six weeks to rebuild the profile of the drain and turf. 'The comprehensive review into the playing surface and drainage system at Allianz Stadium is expected to be finalised later this month,' a Venues NSW spokesperson said. 'As we are awaiting the results of the investigation, no decision has been made on what remediation works are required.' It's understood that Sydney FC would most likely play matches at Leichhardt Oval if Allianz was to become unavailable. That would create significant commercial hurdles. The Sky Blues are already unable to use Allianz when it is required for major concerts, with two scheduled for mid-December. The situation comes as the playing surface at the adjacent SCG, also managed by Venues NSW, was slammed after last week's AFL match between Sydney and the Western Bulldogs. Allianz Stadium only re-opened in September 2022, but eyebrows were raised last May when large puddles were on the surface for a Waratahs-Brumbies rugby match. Clint Gutherson then described the water-logged field as one of the worst he had ever played on after an NRL fixture in August, prompting a review. After initially being relaid during the 2023-24 summer, new turf was again put down last summer before more drainage issues in the opening round of the NRL. Further work was completed to stitch artificial grass into the turf to aid with drainage, before water pooling returned amid heavy rain at women's State of Origin in May. It's understood previous testing on the turf had shown the presence of silt, a granular material often found in rivers which can reduce water flow and impacts drainage. The turf farm used to supply the surface for Allianz Stadium and most Venues NSW grounds is based close to the Hawkesbury River. That river flooded multiple times in the months before the 2022 install. Turf from the same suppliers and farm has been used to re-lay other stadiums since then, without the same drainage issues. The review comes as Independent MP Mark Latham has raised a litany of questions regarding the Allianz Stadium, Venues NSW and the surface in NSW Parliament over the past month.
