Kildare v Laois LIVE score updates from the final of the Joe McDonagh Cup
It's a huge day for Kildare hurling as they take on Laois in the final of the Joe McDonagh Cup. A win for the Lilywhites would earn them a place in the Leinster Senior Hurling Championship for the first time since 2004. Their appearance in the final didn't look likely when losing to Kerry on the opening day, but they have won four from four since to book their place in the decider. That run of four consecutive victories included a shock 11-point win over Laois in the penultimate round of action. Laois are the slight favourites though, with experience of these occasions on their side, and having snatched a draw in Carlow to make the final. The match is scheduled for a 1.45pm throw-in at Croke Park, and you can follow all the action right here on Irish Mirror Sport. Laois last won the Joe McDonagh Cup in 2019 and were beaten finalists by Offaly twelve months ago. But the county made this year's final by the skin of their teeth. Ahead of their final group match against Carlow, they knew they only needed a draw to make the decider. All seemed to be lost, though, when, deep into additional time at Netwatch Cullen Park, they trailed by three points. They were awarded a 65, though, that was fired towards goal by Podge Delaney and ended up finding the back of the net via James Duggan and Mark Dowling. That was enough to send Laois through to the final, where Kildare now stand in their way of lifting the Joe McDonagh Cup.

Offaly hold on to Leinster status with hard-earned win over relegated Antrim
Offaly produced the classic performance of two halves as they held on to their Leinster Senior Hurling Championship status by the skin of their teeth with a very hard-earned win over a fiercely battling Antrim in O'Connor Park on Sunday afternoon. Offaly played their best hurling by a distance against the strong wind in the first half, and were set up for a comfortable win when they led by 2-09 to 0-11 at the break. Yet it ended up a very close run thing, a lot tighter than the scoreboard might indicate, as the visitors gave it everything they had, did really well to get back into it and were not that far away from an unlikely come from behind win. Antrim will drop out of Leinster and contest the Joe McDonagh after losing all five of their matches this year. Offaly made a dream start with a super Brian Duignan goal in the sixth minute and a big defining moment of the game was a fourth minute red card for Antrim corner back Niall O'Connor after an incident with man of the match Charlie Mitchell. In a high stakes tussle with relegation on the line, it was a teak tough game. Offaly would have anticipated a very physical approach from Antrim but such an early red card was a disaster for them, leaving them with a mountain to climb. It was all square, 1-01 to 0-04 when Offaly's crucial second goal arrived in the 13th minute – a flying Mitchell was fouled and Dan Ravenhill slotted home the penalty. 2-01 to 0-06 ahead at the quarter way stage, Offaly hit a purple patch that yielded points from Dan Ravenhill, Brian Duignan (free) and the superb Donal Shirley to lead by 2-04 to 0-06 after 22 minutes. Antrim responded well with four points, the third an inspiring strike from Paddy Burke, and levelled it up at 0-10 to 2-04 after 29 minutes. Offaly played some of their best hurling from here to the interval, getting some quality points from Shirley and Mitchell and that 2-09 to 0-11 lead had them in a very strong position at the break. Offaly didn't keep the same tempo in the second half and didn't score enough, just barely outscoring Antrim by 1-06 to 1-05 which was a poor return with the wind, and an extra man in their favour. Antrim deserve huge credit for their work rate as they fought for everything and the defence got on top. Offaly were 2-13 to 0-13 up after 50 minutes but Antrim got back into it with three James McNaughton frees. Charlie Mitchell put four in it but McNaughton's 64th minute goal brought the gap down to a point, 1-16 to 2-14 and the home side were looking at a disastrous defeat. They responded superbly. Stephen Rooney denied Brian Duignan what looked a sure-fire goal and Killian Sampson eased the home support's nerves with a great 66th minute goal. Brian Duignan added a free and that five point gap gave Offaly enough of a cushion to struggle home. Late drama in Tullamore. There were late goals from James McNaughton and Killian Sampson for their respective teams made for an exciting finish. Antrim will end up in the Joe McDonagh after losing 1-16 to 3-15 against Offaly. — The Sunday Game (@TheSundayGame) May 25, 2025 Offaly: Mark Troy; Ciaran Burke, Ben Conneely, Cathal King, Ross Ravenhill, Donal Shirley (0-02), Sam Bourke; Killian Sampson (1-00), Colin Spain; Dan Bourke (0-01), Brian Duignan (1-07, 7f), Oisin Kelly; Dan Ravenhill (1-02, 1-0p), Charlie Mitchell (0-03), Jason Sampson. Wexford end season with win over experimental Kilkenny side
Leinster SHC: Wexford 2-19 Kilkenny 1-15 WEXFORD ended what has been a painful season with a Lee Chin inspired victory over an experimental Kilkenny side in this Leinster Senior Hurling Championship fifth round clash at Chadwicks Wexford Park. Knowing their fate going into this game, Wexford's championship season was already over, it was an emotional exit for the homeside, particularly many of their more experienced players who have soldiered and struggled to keep their prospects alive, but the page may now have turned on many of their inter-county careers. Kilkenny only fielded a handful of their regular starting 15, but on the whole their display, while their usage of the ball in the opening half was impressive, they struggled through a lacklustre second 35 minutes, with few of their extended squad putting their hands up for a place in the provincial final team. From the opening minutes it was clear that Chin was song, determined to end the campaign on high, finishing the game with a personal tally of 1-13, 0-7 frees, while it was his second half goal that lifted a rather sombre atmosphere. Ten minutes from the end, Chin fielded a high ball among a forest of hurleys, turned some 25 metres from goal 15 metres to the right of goal, to blaze an unstoppable shot across keeper Eoin Murphy into the opposite corner of the net, a finish that would qualify for goal of the season. Kilkenny spoke of having experimented with his extended squad. Manager Derek Lyng said: 'We already had one eye on the provincial final, so it was an opportunity to give our fringe players some game time. We would be a bit disappointed with our opening to the second half, got punished for some mistakes, but really happy with the way we finished the game. 'For us we will now concentrate the next few weeks on the provincial final. We have no injury concerns and it was pleasing to see Adrian Mullins get through seventy minutes in his first game back after injury.' The game opened with Lee Chin and Billy Drennan points, with the sides continuing to exchange points this time through Jack O'Connor and a T. J. Reid, free. Kilkenny were playing into a stiff breeze in this opening half as the exchange of points continued through a long Lee Chin effort and Cian Kenny, who had replaced team captain, John Donnelly, before the start. Both sides were showing real work ethic through the opening 10 minutes, but with Chin continuing to punish indiscipline in the visitors defence, Wexford had extended into a 0-8 to 0-4 lead by the twenty-second minute. Wexford hit a scoring spell in the lead up to the break, with Chin lofting over three superb points, two long range efforts from frees, with Conor Hearne also getting in on the scoring act, with Chin pointing a long free out of midfield in additional time, to send his side in with a 0-12 to 0-5 interval lead. One expected a positive response from Kilkenny on the resumption, which looked like materialising within thirty seconds of the restart, with T.J. Reid pointing a free, but the Wexford response was swift, as Chin picked out Rory O'Connor with a delightful crossfield ball and the St. Martin's clubman turned his marker to beat keeper Eoin Murphy with a clinical finish, extending his side into a 1-12 to 0-6 lead. Killian Doyle chipped in with a Kilkenny point but with Chin continuing to inspire with splendid scores, the Faythe Harriers clubman ended the Kilkenny challenge with a magnificent sixtieth minute goal, leaving his side leading 2-17 to 0-11. Kilkenny tried to reduce the deficit, T. J. Reid had two goal attempts from frees saved, while defender Eoin Ryan got back to clear another effort off the line to preserve his side's control. Kilkenny did manage to finish with a late Reid goal but it was fitting that Chin closed out the scoring with a huge point off the wing. Scorers for Wexford: L Chin (1-13, 0-7 frees); R O'Connor (1-1); S Donohoe, C Hearne, C McDonald, J O'Connor and M Dwyer (0-1 apiece). Lee Chin on form as Wexford end Leinster campaign on a high with win over Kilkenny
Wexford won the dead-rubber battle in Chadwicks Wexford Park on Sunday afternoon, ending their Leinster Senior Hurling Championship with a welcome victory over already qualified Kilkenny.
