Woman struck and killed by Amtrak train in N.H. while trying to get dog off the tracks

A woman was struck and killed by an Amtrak train in New Hampshire Monday afternoon while trying to get an unleashed dog off the train tracks, according to police. Plaistow resident Alicia Leonardi, 42, was killed in a train crash in Exeter around 3:20 p.m., Exeter police said in a Facebook post. The preliminary investigation suggests that Leonardi and a male friend were walking a dog along the tracks when the train approached quickly from around a corner to their rear, police said. The unleashed dog ran onto the tracks at the sound of the train's horn, and both Leonardi and her friend tried to get it off the tracks. Exeter police are investigating the crash with the help of Amtrak police and others, the department said. Amtrak did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the crash Tuesday afternoon.
