Robbie Williams says mother doesn't know who he is anymore due to dementia
Singer Robbie Williams has said his mother Janet no longer recognises him as she continues to battle dementia. The 51-year-old former Take That member announced his mum had been diagnosed with the condition in November 2024. There are more than 200 subtypes of dementia, but the most common types include Alzheimer's disease, vascular dementia, Lewy body dementia, frontotemporal dementia and mixed dementia, according to leading charity Dementia UK. Speaking to The Sun, Williams said: 'My mother has dementia and she doesn't know who I am anymore. She doesn't know where she is anymore.' The 'Let Me Entertain You' hitmaker also revealed his father Pete has Parkinson's disease and struggles to be as social as he once was. 'He used to sing with me every night on stage, he would come out, steal the show and be charming and then wander backstage for a glass of red wine. Now he can't leave the house,' he said. Meanwhile, Williams's mother-in-law, Gwen Field, has lupus, Parkinson's and cancer, the singer said. 'She is the most courageous lady and she is fighting, fighting, fighting,' he reflected. Williams admitted the slew of family illnesses had put him in a 'strange place', admitting he's 'not ready' to handle the complex situation. It comes after the singer told The Mirror at the end of last year , 'The truth is that I'm very busy and I'm not dealing with the situation as I should. I don't really know how to do it, it's an incredibly complicated thing'. He continued: 'But I prefer not to go into details, You know, if I say something, they might read it, and then I would have to answer a lot of questions'. 'Let's put it this way: we are all human beings, with our difficulties, and I am trying to deal with mine,' he concluded. Dementia is particularly common among the elderly, with one in 14 people aged over 65 experiencing the condition and one in six aged over 80. Women are statistically more likely to suffer from the disease than men. Alzheimer's is the most common cause of dementia and the leading cause of death in the UK. The first indicator is usually minor memory problems, with disorientation, problems with speech, difficulty moving and personality changes emerging as the condition worsens.

Robbie Williams 'nominated for knighthood' for music and charity work
Robbie Williams is said to be have been nominated for a knighthood. The Let Me Entertain You singer could be on his way to becoming a Sir after being recommended to the honours committee for his services to music and charity. Robbie, 51, is level with The Beatles with 15 chart-topping albums in the UK and was also responsible for the creation of the charity football match Soccer Aid in 2006, which has since raised £106 million for UNICEF. The former Take That star - who has won a record 18 BRIT Awards during his career - is also a patron of Music Support, a charity that helps those in the industry who are suffering with addiction and mental health problems. BBC Radio 2 breakfast DJ Scott Mills believes that a knighthood would be a much-deserved honour for Robbie, who has struggled with mental health, alcoholism and drug use in the past. The broadcaster told The Sun newspaper's Bizarre column: "I think Robbie should be knighted, 100 per cent. For his contribution to music alone. "Let's not forget, he's the most decorated BRITS winner in history. I think we should celebrate and acknowledge how much joy he has brought. "He deserves it. Not only for his contribution to music, but also for fighting his demons in the public eye and coming out the other side. "He should be acknowledged for his honesty and bravery. He really is a role model." It is now down the honours committee to decide if Robbie will be knighted as they send a shortlist of recommendations to be signed off by UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and King Charles. Meanwhile, Robbie confessed recently that he felt "anxious" about getting on stage for his Britpop Tour that got underway last month and explained that his wife Ayda Field had to calm him down in rehearsals. He said: "I turned to my wife in rehearsals and said: 'Babe, I'm anxious about this.' "She said, 'Rob, you behave like this is normal, you behave like you have to do this for the rest of your life, you behave like stadiums is where you should be.'" The Angels singer - who has children Teddy, 12, Charlie, 10, Coco, six, and four-year-old Beau with Ayda - explained that his "perception" of things was altered in that moment. Robbie said: "In that moment, my perception changed. "I might be in sniper's alley — but I believe I have got a lot longer on this runway to go. 'I look forward to getting even older with you and I look forward to seeing you at many shows to come, whatever size venue that is."

It would be up to an honours committee, which will then send a shortlist of recommendations to Prime Minister Keir Starmer before King Charles signs it off. The 51-year-old Angels singer created Soccer Aid in 2006, which has raised £106 million for Unicef over the years. He has been an ambassador for the charity since 2000. He has also been the Patron of the children's charity the Donna Louise Trust, based in Stoke-on-Trent, since 2002. The charity provides palliative care to terminally ill children who are not expected to live past 16. Robbie has been involved in many Comic Relief events and is also a patron for Music Support, a registered charity that helps peers who work in the UK music industry experiencing substance use, addiction and/or mental health challenges. Radio star Scott Mills also supported the idea of Robbie getting a knighthood. Speaking to The Sun, he said: "Let's not forget, he's the most decorated Brits winner in history. I think we should celebrate and acknowledge how much joy he has brought. 'He deserves it. Robbie might have already seen his future as a Sir, as he previously claimed he has psychic powers. The Let Me Entertain You singer said he doesn't think the strange happenings are coincidences, as they occur too frequently. Speaking on the Weaponized podcast, he shared: "You think of people and they phone. You think of people and they email. A lot of this could be coincidence. But the rate that it is happening just recently, oh wow, you've got my attention." He also opened up about his belief in extra-terrestrial life and how he thought he saw two UFOs flying over LA 20 years ago. He claimed the unidentified flying object was so close he could have hit it with "a tennis ball" - and said he wasn't under the influence of any substances at the time. Another occasion, while writing the song Arizona, which is about alien contact, a "gold ball of light" appeared in the studio when his song was playing.
