Former J&K Governor Satyapal Malik passes away
Satypal Malik, who served as governor of four states in five years from 2017 to 2022 and was often in the news for his controversial remarks, passed away on Tuesday. Known as a farmer leader who began his political journey in Bharatiya Kranti Dal and served as MLA in Uttar Pradesh in the 1970 before becoming a member of Lok Sabha and then the Rajya Sabha. Malik was 79. After a long stint with the parties across the political spectrum barring the Left, Malik joined the BJP and contested the 2004 Lok Sabha elections from Baghpat in Uttar Pradesh. A prominent farmer leader who enjoyed wide support in his Jat community, Malik was often fielded by BJP to reach out to the voters in western UP between 2004 and 2014 when the party was in the Opposition. In 2012, he was appointed as one of the national Vice Presidents of BJP. Five suspended in West Bengal for voter data breach: Election Commission
Election Commission of India (ECI) has directed West Bengal Chief Secretary to suspend five persons, including a casual worker, and lodge FIRs against them-two Electoral Registration Office (ERO) and two Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AERO) for committing 'grave lapses' and 'failing to perform their duties', violating the policy of data security while sharing their login credentials of the ER database to unauthorised persons. Similar action will also be taken against a casual worker as well. The state Chief Secretary Manoj Pant has been directed to start departmental proceedings against them as well. ECI said that the Chief Electoral Officer-West Bengal Manoj Agarwal had forwarded a report on July 29 about 'the wrongful addition of names in the electoral rolls by EROs and AEROs of AC No. 137 Baruipur and Purba district. The West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer's office has flagged major irregularities during sample checking of voters' lists in West Bengal's South 24 Parganas and East Midnapore districts. According to sources in the know, a large number of 'fictitious voters' whose names were allegedly submitted and entered by two EROs without BLO verification was detected.

Britannia Q1 Results: Cons PAT rises 3% YoY to Rs 521 crore, revenue grows 9%
Britannia Industries on Tuesday reported a 3 % year-on-year rise in consolidated Q1 FY26 net profit to Rs 521 crore, up from Rs 506 crore a year earlier. Total revenue from operations grew 9 % to Rs 4,622 crore versus Rs 4,250 crore in Q1 FY25. The PAT was 7% lower on a sequential basis versus Rs 560 crore reported in Q4FY25 despite a 4% uptick in the company's topline in the quarter under review compared to Rs 4,432 crore reported in the January-March quarter.
