TFC recovers from sluggish start to salvage draw with New York Red Bulls
Theo Corbeanu's second-half goal lifted Toronto FC into a 1-1 draw with the New York Red Bulls in MLS play Wednesday. Article content Mohammed Sofo scored for the Red Bulls (8-7-4) who had taken advantage of a sluggish start by Toronto in front of an announced crowd of 19,826 at BMO Field. Corbeanu's goal came on one of TFC's two efforts on target. Article content It was Toronto's first action since a May 31 home loss to Charlotte FC, with the scheduled pause for the Gold Cup and FIFA Club World Cup extended when its June 13 game at Los Angeles FC was postponed to Oct. 8 after LAFC qualified for the Club World Cup. Article content Toronto (3-10-5) looked rusty to start, giving the ball away, and fell behind in the 20th minute. Article content Sofo dispossessed Maxime Dominguez, passed the ball to Lewis Morgan and then headed towards goal. Morgan's shot was stopped by goalkeeper Sean Johnson, but Sofo knocked the rebound home into the empty goal. Article content Morgan has eight goal contributions (five goals, three assists) in eight career MLS appearances against Toronto. Article content The celebration didn't last long with Morgan forced to leave the game four minutes later. The Scottish international, in his second game back from a knee surgery, was on the ball looking to pick up speed when he suddenly put on the brakes. Article content It was just his second start of the season — and his first since the opening game of the season. Article content Corbeanu pulled Toronto even in the 51st minute, heading the ball past goalkeeper Carlos Coronel after Alonso Coello, following a corner, found Sigurd Rosted at the far post and the Norwegian defender headed the ball back across goal. Corbeanu rose high for his fourth goal of the season — in TFC's first effort on target. Article content Article content Article content The Red Bulls' last game was June 14, a 2-1 loss at Austin FC. The New Yorkers had won four straight across all competitions before that. Article content The Red Bulls arrived in eighth place in the Eastern Conference, six places and 14 points ahead of Toronto. But most of New York's success has come at Sports Illustrated Stadium where it had gone 7-1-1 compared to 1-6-2 on the road. Article content Toronto's home record, at 1-7-2 before Wednesday, was last in the league — a record exacerbated by five defeats at BMO Field in May when TFC went 2-5-0. Toronto went a disappointing 2-5-0 in May despite playing six of the seven games at home.

I've joined the epic retirement club thanks to my ex-Celtic player son who said ‘you don't have to work anymore'
A MUM of five has revealed how she was able to retire last year thanks to her big-hearted son - who is a former Celtic player. Veronica Morgan posted a heartfelt message onto The Epic Retirement Club page on Facebook, explaining how she was able to join the club thanks to her footie star son. Sign up for the Celtic newsletter Sign up 2 Veronica Morgan was able to retire last year thanks to her big-hearted son 2 She's the mother of Scotland international Lewis Morgan Credit: Kenny Ramsay She can now travel the world and visit her sons and daughters - who are situated all over the globe - after the kind gesture from ex-Celtic winger Lewis Morgan. Lewis, 28, has been earning the big bucks as a footballer since he sealed his dream move to Parkhead from St Mirren in 2018. Things didn't quite work out for the wide-man in Glasgow, though, as he only lasted two years at the Hoops before heading stateside. But it's fair to say he's been living the good life across the pond since 2020, having initially joined Inter Miami - before Lionel Messi made the switch to David Beckham's side. Now at New York Red Bulls, the six-cap Scotland star has managed to put enough of his earnings to one side to help his loved ones out. Veronica posted on social media: "I'm so grateful to my son who retired me last year. I'm 65 and now living my best life. My children have all moved away, we are from Scotland. "My eldest son and partner are in Lytham St. Anne in England, my eldest daughter and husband in Melbourne Australia, my middle daughter and husband in Manhattan New York City, my youngest son and partner in Hoboken New Jersey, and my youngest daughter is in London, so I'm travelling now in my retirement and loving every minute." Veronica had plans to retire for some time but she wasn't in a position financially to go through with it - until her son helped her out. She continued: "I had been wanting to retire my son just gave me the push I needed to do it. "He knew I was getting tired working and didn't want me to think I had to keep working when he had the means to say 'enough is enough mum you don't have to work anymore'. The diggers move in as Celtic Park pitch is dug up "I'd never not had a job since I was 14 even when I had the five kids all under 7 at one point I still worked. "My husband and me both juggled our jobs to make sure someone was always there for them and it was tough but you do what you have to do to give your kids a good life. "They are so thankful for that and I'm so proud of all of them they've all gone on to have amazing careers - his just happened to be the one that allowed me to retire and I'm so grateful to him every day." ‘He's giving it his all. When you invest, that's what you want'
The Gymshark co-founder Lewis Morgan has snapped up a 15 per cent stake in MyFirst, a car insurance company targeting young drivers, and is backing the start-up to reach unicorn status. Morgan, who started Gymshark in 2013 with Ben Francis, bought out existing shareholders and said he believed the company would achieve a £1 billion valuation in the coming years. As part of the same transaction, an existing minority shareholder, Rob Pierre, who is best known as the co-founder of Jellyfish, a digital marketing agency, has increased his stake from seven to 20 per cent. James Noble launched MyFirst in 2016 after struggling to secure cover for his first car. At the time he was working as a golf caddy with no experience in the
