'I've visited every country in Europe and there's four I wouldn't recommend'
Lexie Limitless, a US YouTuber who became the youngest person to visit every nation in the world at the age of 21, has named her four least-favourite European countries A globe-trotting YouTuber who has visited every country in the world has shared her thoughts on the 44 nations in Europe, saying there are four she would not return to. American Lexie Limitless holds the impressive title of being the youngest person to visit every country in the world at just 21. In her latest video, 'I travelled to every country in Europe so you don't have to', Lexie reveals some of her favourite "hidden gems" from the continent - including Slovenia, Mostar in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Cesky Krumlov in Czech Republic. However, she also discusses four nations that didn't quite hit the mark for her. Lexie said: "Alright, it's time to talk about one of my least favourite subjects, and I got to say in advance that travel is so subjective. Places that I've been that I didn't necessarily connect with might not be the same for everyone. "Everyone's preferences are different, but I think that the countries that didn't really leave as much of an impression on me as some of the others in Europe would probably be Belarus, Slovakia, Moldova and Bulgaria." She continued: "If I had to name a few specifically, I think it was just that in those countries, in particular, it's so important to know a good local who's going to show you around and show you all the best spots." Lexie believes travel is "mostly about" the people you meet along the way. As she didn't know anybody in these countries, she had a "really difficult" time obtaining "unique experiences". She added that it's almost "unfair" to compare smaller nations like Moldova or Bulgaria, to a country like Italy, as they have some "advantages" geographically, noting the "diversity" in their " environment". The seasoned traveller also stated that she tries to "avoid" naming specific countries that she may not necessarily recommend and would "absolutely love" to go back if she had "more of a purpose" or reason to be there beyond sightseeing. Belarus, a former Soviet republic, is a landlocked nation in Eastern Europe that shares its borders with Russia, Ukraine, and Poland, among others. Since 1994, it has been ruled by President Alexander Lukashenko, who has been dubbed "Europe's last dictator." Situated within the heart of the continent, Slovakia borders the Czech Republic, Austria, Hungary, Poland and Ukraine. It was formerly part of Czechoslovakia until the so-called "velvet divorce" in 1993. Meanwhile, Moldova, another landlocked country and former Soviet republic, is nestled between Ukraine and Romania. The BBC reports that two-thirds of its population share Romanian roots, highlighting their shared heritage. Bulgaria, situated in the eastern Balkans with a coastline along the Black Sea, is predominantly Slavonic-speaking. Since the fall of Communism, it has been steadily transitioning towards a market economy.

'I've been to every single European nation and one had the bluest water ever'
Lexie Limitless, real name Lexie Alford, became the youngest person to travel to every country at the age of 21 and has since travelled around the world, sharing her experiences A globe-trotting traveller who's visited every country in Europe has claimed one nation on the continent has the bluest water she's "ever seen". Lexie Limitless, a US YouTuber who became the youngest person to visit every country at the age of 21, has opened up about her experiences exploring Europe, highlighting some of the continent's "underrated" nations. The adventurous traveller, real name Lexie Alford, boasts half a million YouTube subscribers and broke the record after exploring all 196 countries and now boasts the impressive following. In a Europe -themed video, she reveals six less-traditional but breathtaking destinations across Europe. Lexie, who also goes by Lexie Limitless on Instagram, described one nation as a cultural "melting pot" with a blend of Islamic and European "influences", and another as having the most stunningly blue river waters she's ever encountered. She remarked: "I would say that one of the top underrated places has to be Slovenia. There are some incredible hiking paths and literally the bluest water I've ever seen in rivers." Slovenia, formerly part of Yugoslavia, is a small nation situated in Central Europe. It is bordered by Austria in the north, Italy to the West, Croatia to the south, and Hungary to the northeast. In addition to its dazzling waters, Slovenia also boasts many impressive caves. In fact, it's home to more than 10,000, including the World Heritage-listed Krizna Jama Cave and the 20km Postojna. She gushed: "I also loved Mostar in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Again, incredible river running through this city that really felt like a melting pot between both Islamic and European influences, with a lot of very rich history to learn while you're there." Further sharing her travel tales, Lexie said: "I think also the cutest little village I've ever been to, which I actually saw in one of I was on one of those river cruises, was a place called eský Krumlov in the Czech Republic." Describing the locale, Lexie spoke of its "crazy bridges" and "aqueduct-looking architecture", as well as its "beautiful rivers" and "adorable cafes". She referred to it as "quintessentially" the European village of everyone's Disney-inspired dreams. However, not stopping at just these gems, Lexie also praised Sweden in the summertime, the picturesque Valle Verzasca in Switzerland, and the enchanting Bruges in Belgium, which cinephiles might recall from the 2008 Colin Farrell movie 'In Bruges'. Topping her list of favourite countries globally is the secluded mountain kingdom of Bhutan in Asia, which is nestled between India and China. Lexie highlighted Bhutan for its unique distinction of being deemed the "happiest country in the world". She also hailed Bhutan as one of the globe's "best-kept secrets", insisting that the world has "so much to learn from this tiny country".

‘Freak accident': N.S. dog owner shares warning after dog suffocates in chip bag
Deborah Lewis has placed her dog Lexie's ashes, with a photo and her collar, next to her favourite spot in the living room. (CTV Atlantic / Stephanie Tsicos) A Nova Scotia woman is sharing a warning with other pet owners after tragically losing her dog last week. When Deborah Lewis arrived home the evening of June 17, she knew right away something was wrong. 'Usually, Lexie was out and about free, so she wasn't at the gate to greet me, and when I came upstairs, she wasn't in her usual spot,' she said. Lewis continued into the house, which is where she found her nearly 12-year-old dog Lexie had suffocated after getting her head stuck in a chip bag. 'I went to her right away and pulled the bag off, but she was gone sadly,' said Lewis. 'I could just tell that it was just too late for anything to kind of bring her back to me. It was rough.' Deborah Lewis Deborah Lewis holds a photo of her dog Lexie, who passed away on June 17 after suffocating in a chip bag. (CTV Atlantic / Stephanie Tsicos) Lewis is a veterinary technician and had heard of this happening before but never witnessed it for herself while working. It's something she never expected would happen. 'It wasn't uncommon for us to leave snacks or food pushed back far on the counters where we felt it was out of her reach. It had been there for over a day without her getting into it,' said Lewis. 'Somehow she just managed to reach it that day.' By all accounts, Lewis had felt the bag was in a safe spot and could never have imagined her dog getting into it. 'We worry more maybe about the things that they're eating that they can get into, but the packages themselves are a big hazard.' It's only been about a week since Lexie died, and it's been extremely difficult for Lewis losing her best friend. 'While it's a freak accident, it's something that commonly happens to pets and until more people are aware and can do their best to prevent it from happening, but you know, there's always that chance it still can,' she said. Lexie was just weeks away from turning 12. Her ashes have now been brought home and have been placed next to her favourite spot in the living room. 'Despite being a senior dog, she was so full of energy. We called her 'my forever puppy' because she was just filled with energy and definitely did not act like a senior dog. She was very healthy, a happy girl.' Deborah Lewis Deborah Lewis is pictured with her dog Lexie. (Courtesy: Deborah Lewis) 'It happens daily' While an occurrence like this may seem rare, it's not. 'It happens daily, and it happens quickly. It happens within minutes,' said Prevent Pet Suffocation founder Bonnie Harlan. 'It can actually happen to any size animals, so whether you have a small teacup toy poodle or a Great Dane.' Harlan's non-profit, which is based out of Houston, Texas, was created after her dog Blue suffocated in a chip bag in December 2011. 'I had never heard of pet suffocation before. So, I figured if I had never heard of it, it was so devastating that probably a lot of other people had not heard of it either,' she said. Preventing suffocation There are changes pet owners can make to try and prevent pet suffocation from happening. Harlan first suggests storing all snacks or food products in cupboards or high up away from where pets could access them. She also said to store the food in containers – not in the original bag. Next, she said all food bags, whether it's cereal, chips or dog food, should be cut up before being put into the garbage. 'I say one of the best tools you can have in your kitchen is a pair of scissors,' said Harlan. Once the bags are in the garbage, she said the bin should be stored away from where your pet could access it. She said cutting up the bags also helps reduce the risk of wildlife suffocating in bags. 'These are just some of the things that you can do to eliminate a pet suffocation risk in your home, but also you want to use these measures in your car, in your yard, in your garage, anywhere that your pet might be unfortunately could be a risk to them,' she said. Harlan also noted anyone around your pets, including a pet sitter, neighbour, or your child's friend, should be aware of the risks. 'Even though you can be pretty vigilant, maybe you have a guest staying that has something in their luggage or their backpack or their purse, and you can be caught off guard and distracted and your pet can get into trouble pretty quickly,' she said. Deborah Lewis Deborah Lewis' dog Lexie is pictured in her favourite spot. (Courtesy: Deborah Lewis) Lewis hopes others will take these precautions. 'It can really happen to anyone, even if your pet's never been the type to get into things before, and it can happen whether you're home or not, it can just happen so quickly,' she said. 'Think about Lexie. She was just a dog who was so full of love and just remember her when they're taking these precautions.' For more Nova Scotia news, visit our dedicated provincial page

‘I've always known I wanted to be financially dependent on my husband': Aussie mum reveals why she chose to stay at home
Lexie says she's always wanted to be 'financially dependent' on her husband - a stance that has ignited fierce debate. Lexie, 26, is a mother of two who ran her own hairdressing business for seven years before having two children and deciding not to return to work full-time. 'I've always known I wanted to be financially dependent on my husband and I've never had an issue with it,' she said. Lexie explained her goal has always been to become a stay-at-home mum and wife. 'When I met my husband, we were just friends; I told him all my plans. I wanted to get married really young and have kids, and I didn't want to go back to work after having kids,' she said. The young mum said she fell in love with her husband so quickly because he wanted a 'similar dynamic,' therefore, money has always been an open conversation. But when Lexie publically shared her feelings on being 'financially dependent,' many found her honesty about money and work refreshing. 'Love this,' one praised. 'So good you guys were upfront so early on,' another noted. 'I think this is really great and should be normalised,' one noted. 'It has been like this generations on both sides of my family. So it is all I've ever known and I don't want anything else,' someone else shared. However, among the positive comments were people who expressed concern that Lexie was financially overreliant on her husband financially and that she'd end up with no superannuation. 'I cannot,' one remarked. Another argued, 'men especially love to change their minds,' implying Lexie might not be making the best financial decision. 'I don't disagree with this lifestyle but it's really becoming a privilege to be able to do this now due to the cost of living,' another said. 'If you're going to do this, you need to have a pre-nup signed that will guarantee you're looked after if the marriage ends, he decides to leave, cheat, etc. 'If you don't have that, no amount of financial awareness can save you if it ends and you have no money of your own. Please look out for yourselves, ladies,' one warned. Speaking to Lexie said she is frustrated that people assume she's somehow not financially savvy soley because she's not the one making money. 'Some people think there's an 'issue' with what I've chosen to do or that it must not be a choice or it isn't the right choice or it isn't a smart one,' she said. 'Just because I'm financially dependent on my husband doesn't mean I'm not financially unaware.' 'My husband and I have complete transparency. Just because I'm not earning the income doesn't mean I don't get to have a 50/50 say in how we spend it.' She also said no one should worry about her superannuation balance. 'We're still figuring it out; instead of making additional superannuation contributions, we're putting it onto our home loan because the interest rates are so high,' she said. She explained the point of the video was to point out that just because she's not the breadwinner, that doesn't mean she doesn't have equal financial power. The 26-year-old stressed the importance of being 'financially aware' and said that she has full access to all their money. Despite the concern from Aussies, the couple's choice to live on one income certainly isn't unusual. Millions of Australians are financially dependent on their partner, according to new research by financial comparison website Finder. Almost one in four women describe themselves as financially dependent, and Finder's research found that 22 per cent of millennials currently rely on their companions for money. When she fell pregnant, the couple soon after started living off her husband's income to ensure they could afford to keep it up. 'We had been practising living on one income a few months before my son was born in preparation,' she said. 'We reduced our living expenses and made some sacrifices so I had choices when it came to returning to work.' She did go back to work after her first, but after her second, the daycare costs put the couple off, and they decided to keep living off her husband's wage, which is over $100,000. Living on one income hasn't been too much of a struggle for the 26-year-old, she insists. 'I've always lived a minimalist style, we've always lived in our means. We have never had Afterpay or car loans. 'Our mortgage was the smallest we could get to get a house,' she said. The couple's mortgage is a manageable $500,000, and they intentionally bought below what they could afford to borrow. Still, the couple changed some habits to accommodate their income. 'We made changes, we changed our insurance, our phone plans, and we don't have many streaming services,' she said. 'We don't buy takeaway, we don't have gym memberships and we cut out those extra items. We focused solely on living with one income without stress, but there's always stress.' The 26-year-old ultimately argued that staying at home has allowed her husband to focus on his career and potentially earn more money. 'Being stay-at-home parent and taking on those responsibilities does mean my husband can thrive in his career,' she said. Sadly, she feels there's a stigma around stay-at-home mums because women get 'pitted against each other' where either choice is valid.
