'I've Already Made A Payment:' Woman Purchases Lexus RX 350 from Carvana. Then They Send Her Another One
When a Mississippi woman bought a Lexus RX 350 through Carvana this past April, she expected a modern, hassle-free car-buying experience. She says that what she got instead was a months-long spiral into missing paperwork, a vanished financing account, and surreal customer service calls. 'The woman on the phone says, 'Your vehicle's on the way!'' creator Jana Marie recalls in the first of a series of TikTok videos detailing her purportedly ongoing Carvana difficulties. 'I said, 'Ma'am, I'm in the vehicle. I've already made a payment.'' Get the best news, reviews, columns, and more delivered straight to your inbox, daily. back Sign up For more information, read our Privacy Policy and Terms of Use . So far, Jana says her experience has been filled with dead-end calls, contradictory updates, and the creeping anxiety of driving a car the system says she doesn't own. It Backfires Carvana built its brand around simplicity: browse cars online, get financing in minutes, and have your new vehicle delivered to your door—no dealership haggling required. It's car buying reimagined for the Amazon Prime generation. But the experience isn't always seamless, buyers say. After the sale went through, Jana's claims her experience quickly unraveled. She says she's dealt with missing tags, a ghosted finance portal, and dozens of phone calls with no clear answers. What was supposed to be turnkey became Kafkaesque, per her retelling. In traditional dealerships, you can escalate such issues with a manager. In the digital-first world, you're left navigating call centers and apps—and hoping to find someone who can actually help. Jana says the timeline of her Carvana purchase went down like this: April: She buys a Lexus RX 350 through Carvana and submits her paperwork digitally. Delivery is delayed, but the car eventually arrives. She makes her first payment with no issue. No license plate or temporary tag ever shows up. When she tries to make her second payment, her finance account is gone. She calls the finance company. They tell her she returned the vehicle. Carvana reps are baffled: one insists the car is still being delivered. She's already driving it. After multiple calls, she's told her paperwork was never completed, even though she says she finished it in April. She calls trying to straighten things out and keeps getting put on hold. All the while, she's behind the wheel of a car that, according to the system, doesn't exist. Other Carvana Complaints Carvana has a pattern of problems that span multiple states and impacts consumers nationwide. The Texas Department of Motor Vehicles cited Carvana for over 30 violations in 2021, issuing more than $10,000 in fines after numerous complaints about delayed titles, expired or out‑of‑state temporary tags, and several reports of customers waiting months to legally drive their cars. In August 2021, state regulators suspended Carvana's dealership license in Raleigh for six months due to failures in delivering titles, ignoring state inspections, and issuing out‑of‑state temporary plates. Following a 2021 compliance review by Michigan regulators, Carvana entered into an 18‑month probation, later extended by six months, and paid multiple fines after the state uncovered repeated failures to transfer titles within 15 days, improper temporary registrations, missing odometer records, and other violations. In Connecticut this January, the company reached a $1.5 million settlement addressing consumer complaints dating back to 2019, including prolonged title and registration delays, postponed lender payments, and misleading vehicle descriptions. No Resolution More than two months after her purchase, Jana is still driving the car but says she remains in legal limbo. She reportedly still hasn't received valid paperwork and her financing status is unclear. She says no one at Carvana has offered a clear path to resolution. 'I can't make it anymore. Did I get the car for free? No. I'm still dealing with them,' she says in a post about the experience. 'I need to be on the phone with them right now.' ‘Unfillable void': Second teen dead after multi-car crash in Pompano Beach
A second teenage boy has died following a multi‑car crash that occurred over the weekend in Pompano Beach, the Broward Sheriff's Office announced Tuesday. Seventeen‑year‑old Richard Joseph Grable was taken to the hospital Friday evening, along with three other teens, after the collision near the 200 block of East Copans Road. According to detectives, a 2019 Mercedes‑Benz CLA 250, driven by 16‑year‑old Jayden Vico, was traveling west on Copans Road when a 2021 Toyota Sienna, driven by 82-year-old Steven Linn Dehne, was traveling south on Leisure Boulevard toward East Copans Road. At some point, Dehne turned left and collided with Jayden's car, which was carrying four passengers. READ MORE:Teen driver killed in multi-car crash in Pompano Beach, Sheriff's Office says Jayden was pronounced dead at the scene after he lost control of the car, causing it to roll onto its roof as it slid southwest across the roadway and into the path of eastbound traffic. 'Jayden was truly one of a kind — kind, funny, compassionate, and full of light,' Celine Burgman wrote in a GoFundMe campaign started to help Jayden's family cover his funeral expenses. 'His presence brought joy to everyone who knew him, and his sudden absence leaves an unfillable void in all our lives.' Nearly $19,000 has been raised. The Mercedes then collided with a 2015 Lexus RX 350, driven by Gilbert Francois. A fourth driver, Steven Miller, in a 2021 Toyota RAV4, was also impacted when his car was struck by debris from the collision as he traveled east on East Copans Road. Both Dehne and Miller were uninjured. Pompano Beach Fire Rescue arrived and took the occupants of the Mercedes and the Lexus to a nearby hospital. Grable, who had been taken to the hospital, died on Monday, the Broward Sheriff's Office confirmed. Authorities have yet to identify the other teens involved. In a GoFundMe organized for Richard's parents to help cover medical expenses, the organizer wrote that the family 'are the kind of people who open their hearts and home to everyone.' The fundraiser added, 'If you've ever been to their house, you know the warmth, kindness, and love they show to all of Richie's friends.' So far, over $46,000 has been raised. The boys were students at St. Aquinas High School, a private catholic school in Fort Lauderdale, which held a prayer service for the crash victims on Monday. 'The STA community is prayerful in response to the news of a terrible accident involving STA students,' the school wrote on their website. 'In times like these, we are called to come together in prayer for the victims, their families, and for our entire community as we seek healing and comfort.' Detectives say that excessive speed may have been a contributing factor in the crash, and the investigation is ongoing.

Chesapeake woman injures trooper in police chase with child in car, authorities say
A Chesapeake woman was arrested Saturday following a chase with multiple law enforcement agencies, who said she was believed to be under the influence, sideswiped a deputy and injured a trooper all while driving with a small child in the back of her car. Heather Lee Barrington, 53, faces over 10 felony charges, including reckless care for a child and assault on law enforcement, jail records show. Chesapeake police said in a statement the chase began in Elizabeth City Saturday afternoon. Barrington, believed by troopers to be driving under the influence in a 2011 Lexus RX 350, had struck an Elizabeth City County Deputy's vehicle, the Virginia Beach Police Department said in a statement. Chesapeake officers began their pursuit when she drove up Dominion Boulevard onto Interstate 64 in Chesapeake, traveling westbound toward Virginia Beach. Chesapeake police deployed spike strips to try to stop her, according to a release. Barrington continued on I-64 and Virginia State Police joined the pursuit. As she neared Greenbrier Parkway, authorities positioned themselves in an attempt to slow her down and stop her, the release stated. Barrington struck several state police vehicles, which caused one vehicle to crash and its airbags to deploy, near the Indian River Road exit. She was stopped shortly thereafter, authorities said, and was found with an infant girl restrained in a safety seat in the back of her car. A trooper was injured and taken to Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital with injuries not considered to be life-threatening. The infant was transported to Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters for evaluation. No other injuries were reported, authorities said. Barrington was booked at the Chesapeake City Jail.
