Law and District AAC enjoy race success across the UK

The club have done really well in various competitions Law and District AAC athletes have done well in various competitions across the UK. ‌ Senior athlete Liam Nolan won gold in hammer and discus at the Red Star Championships at Crownpoint in Glasgow. ‌ The club had three gold medal wins at the Calderglen Trail Races in East Kilbride, by Amelie Grant (U9s 1k), Abbie Boyle (U12s 3k) and Lucy Taylor (U15s 3k). ‌ Olivia Taylor was fourth in U12s, Anais Grant was 6th, and Ivy Taylor 10th. Ethan Lawn was fifth in the boys' race. Eilidh Boyle was ninth in U15s 3k, and Elaine Boyle was third in the senior 10k. U17 Blair Beverley competed in the Livingston Open Graded Meeting and ran a personal best of 4.37:02 in 1500m, and U20 Declan McClelland ran a PB of 56.89s in 400m. Under-20 runner Owen Murphy finished third in the 100m 'B' final at the Mannheim International in Germany, smashing a 23-year club record with 10.64s, which was also a personal best. Coach Bobby Wotherspoon completed the Mont Blanc mountain marathon. Siblings Alexander and Helena Wotherspoon joined their dad in France at the Mont Blanc Festival races, where U13 Helena won the 2013 age group in Mini Cross 4k, and U15 Alexander won the 2012 category. ‌ Jen Beattie ran the Tea and Trails 50k Ultra in Applethwaite in the Lake District, where she was fourth V40 in 8.31:53 in an ultra 53k race with 2470m elevation. Emily McNicol and Lesley Graham ran the Lairig Ghru Hill Race from Braemar to Aviemore, 43k and 640m elevation, where McNicol was first female in 3.47:43. ‌ Masters Championships and Open events were held at the Riverside Arena in Ayr, with three athletes competing in throws. V35 Helen Johnson won hammer gold with 37.09m, coach Graeme Ferguson V45 silver with 24.78m, and Liam Nolan won para with 33.10m. In javelin, Ferguson threw 24.04m, and achieved 24.53m for silver in discus, with Nolan winning para with 28.56m. In shot put, Ferguson threw 10.04 to win V45 gold. Out on track, U15 Cara Murphy won 100m and 200m para events, and M60 Fiona Steele won gold in 100m and 200m, and finished fourth in 400m. M60 Jim Gillon won gold in 400m, and V35 Christine Neill took bronze in 1500m.

Sixteen Irish to bid for spots at Royal Portrush in Final Qualifying for The Open next week

There are five spots on offer at each venue and Graeme McDowell will bid to secure his place in his home town Open at Royal Cinque Ports in Kent next Tuesday July 1. Niall Kearney tees it up at Burnham and Berrow, while Liam Nolan will be hoping lightning strikes twice at Dundonald Links in Scotland, where he qualified last year. He will have several compatriots alongside him as Amateur Championship runner-up Gavin Tiernan joins fellow amateurs Finlay Eager and Caolan Rafferty, as well as Rowan Lester, Brendan McCarroll, Dermot McElroy, Keith Shannon and Ruaidhri McGee at the Scottish links. Paul McBride, who won Regional Qualifying at The Island on Monday, will be joined at West Lancs by Conor Purcell, Alex Maguire, Ronan Mullarney and reigning AIG Irish Amateur Close champion Thomas Abom. Five Irishmen are already in the field for Royal Portrush — former Open champions Pádraig Harrington, Darren Clarke, Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry, and LIV Golf's Tom McKibbin. Purcell will have a chance to clinch his place in this week's Italian Open in Tuscany, where the leading two players, not already exempt, who make the cut will qualify. Seamus Power is not entered for Final Qualifying but may have a chance to make it if he makes the field for the Genesis Scottish Open and finishes in the top three not already exempt. Liam Nolan made contact with the 14-year-old boy on the Telegram app and sent him numerous payments in exchange for the lad stripping and performing solo sex acts. Nolan, 35, sent messages stating he wanted 'to spank' the boy and described the vile sexual acts he wanted to perform on the victim. He was also caught in possession of child abuse images when police raided his home in Dunbar, East Lothian, in December 2023. He was also convicted for describing his fantasies about 'burning and mutilating' a child and was in contact with a father in the Philippines and suggested drugging and raping the man's daughter. The court was told Nolan had been initially speaking online to the child's adult sister but then began exchanging messages with the 14-year-old boy. Ms Green said police cyber crime officers discovered chat logs on the Telegram app between Nolan and the child that took place on occasions over a two week period in October 2023. Evidence was found of Nolan sending cash payments to the family in Ukraine through PayPal in return for images and videos of the boy undressing and performing sex acts. The contents of the chat logs between Nolan and the victim are deemed too explicit to publish. The two mobile phones found at Nolan's home contained pictures and videos of boys aged between 12 and 14 engaging in sexual activity. Solicitor Peter O'Neill, defending, acknowledged the crimes were 'pretty grim' and said his client was currently in therapy and had been engaging with the rehabilitation organisation Stop It Now. Mr O'Neill said: 'He is well aware prison is an option today but I am instructed to ask for bail. Mr Nolan was quite frank in his interview with police about this and was quite open he has clear problems.' Nolan pleaded guilty to intentionally sending sexual communication to a 14-year-old boy for the purposes of obtaining sexual gratification between October 15 and 29, 2023. He also admitted to possessing indecent images of children at his home between October 15 and November 24, 2023.
