Bengaluru stampede: Karnataka govt blames RCB management for crowd surge that killed 11; cities Virat Kohli video
BENAGLURU: The Karnataka government has held the management of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) responsible for the deadly stampede that claimed 11 lives outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on 4 June. In a status report submitted to the High Court, the state said the RCB management, along with its event partner M/s DNA Networks Private Limited and the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), 'unilaterally decided to hold the victory celebration without prior consultation with the police and without obtaining the necessary permissions or licence for such celebrations.' The report, dated 12 June, was ordered to be disclosed by the High Court in its order on 8 July. According to the report, on 3 June at around 6:30pm, the CEO of KSCA submitted an intimation on behalf of DNA Networks to the Inspector of Police at Cubbon Park Police Station. The letter stated that if RCB were to win the IPL final that evening in Ahmedabad against PBKS, the team intended to organise a victory parade around the stadium. However, the police denied the request due to 'insufficient information regarding the expected gathering size, arrangements made, possible bottlenecks, and the like, as well as the proposal being made on very short notice,' the report stated. Despite this, the next morning at 7:01am on 4 June, RCB posted an invitation on its official social media platforms announcing a victory parade from Vidhana Soudha to Chinnaswamy Stadium. A second post at 8:00am reiterated the same message. At 8:55am, RCB posted a video featuring Virat Kohli on its official handle @RCBtweets, in which he said the team 'intends to celebrate this victory with the people of Bengaluru and RCB fans on 04.06.2025 after the team returns to Bengaluru.' Later, at 3:14pm, another post was made announcing the timing of the parade—from 5:00pm to 6:00pm—followed by celebrations inside the stadium. The government also noted the huge online engagement with these posts, with the first receiving 16 lakh views, the second 4.26 lakh views, the third 7.6 lakh, and the final one 17 lakh views. 'It is pertinent to note that a mere intimation was given by the organisers; there was no requisition for permissions in the prescribed format, nor was any necessary information provided to the concerned departments to anticipate the gathering and make adequate preparations,' the report added. KP govt to establish one-window business facilitation portal
PESHAWAR: The provincial government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is going to establish, regulate and manage a one-window business facilitation portal to streamline regulatory approval and enhance ease of doing business in the province. For this purpose, a draft bill 'KP Aasan Karobar Act, 2025 has been introduced in the provincial legislature, which is aimed at reformation of the regulatory regime applicable to businesses, trade and investment has been tabled in the provincial legislature. Under the legislative act the provincial government will establish Ease of Doing Business Directorate under the Board of Investment and Trade to provide one-window business facilitation to trade and business in the province. The proposed directorate will be consisted of a Technical Reforms Unit and KP Operating Unit. The Board of Investment and Trade (BoIT) will appoint a director to lead the directorate, who will an officer of BS-19 or a person with private sector appointed through a competitive process, on a prescribed terms and conditions. The government will appoint such persons, including technical experts, as may be required, from amongst the officers of government or the private sector. The government may also where deem necessary, second officers for a prescribed period from participatory agencies, or other relevant entities to the Aasan Karobar Portal (AKP) operating unit through a competitive selection process to support the implementation and operation of the Aasan Karobar Portal. The KP operating unit may enter into partnerships, including public-private partnerships, or itself develop, procure, or acquire fully or partly the requisite software, hardware, system code, data, infrastructure, or anything ancillary thereto for the effective functioning of the portal. The functions and powers of the Ease of Doing Business Directorate will include mapping Registration, Licensing, Certifications and Other Permits (RLCOs) throughout the province to establish and maintain the KP Regulatory Registry and ensure the entry of all RLCOs of the province in it. The directorate will coordinate with federal entities, when required, for mapping RLCOs for entry into and compatibility with any applicable national registry established at federal level; review laws and RLCOs for the purpose of assessing the burden imposed on businesses; coordinate with provincial entities to eliminate, simplify and modernize RLCOs and their associated processes; conduct business process re-engineering amid at modernizing, digitizing and improving government procedures relating to the processing and issuance of RLCOs; draft proposals for reforms in laws, rules, regulations and administrative procedures for submission to government; propose inclusions or modifications to the Aasan Karobar Portal to further enhance ease of doing business; engage with federal and provincial entities to enhance ease of doing business at national level and any other function assigned to it by KP BoIT. Similarly, the functions of the ease of doing business directorate's KP Operating Unit include to develop, deploy, operate, maintain, expand, upgrade and enhance the Aasan Karobar Portal and its allied systems and services; negotiate and enter into Service Level Agreements with participating agencies, maintain a grievance redressal mechanism; developed Unified Applications; develop and maintain a facility on the Aasan Karobar Portal; maintain and operate e-payment system. Under the proposed legislation, the provincial government will also establish Aasan Karobar Portal to facilitate RLCOs required by businesses operating within the province. The portal may adopt and apply any technological means available, or that may become available in the future, to enhance its operational efficiency, enable digital integration, and facilitate paperless processing of business-related approvals. The Aasan Karobar Portal will function as the single-entry point for the submission, processing and issuance of RLCOs, streamlining RLCOs required for business operation through digital processing; reduce human intervention in approval and standardize inter-agency workflow; provide a real-time tracking mechanism for applications; provide business regulatory compliance and management tools for customers; provide a coordination mechanism for participating agencies to conduct routine inspections jointly; incorporate an e-payment system for efficient payment and processing of all fees and charges relating to RLCOs, service charges, or other payments; establish an effective and time bound grievance redressal mechanism for applicants; and any other function assigned to it by the government. There will also be a powerful Steering Committee for the purpose of ease of doing business with Chief Minister as its chairperson. Members of the Steering Committee will include Chief Secretary, Secretary Finance, Secretary Industries, Secretary Labour, Secretary Law, Parliamentary Affairs, Secretary Science & Technology, Vice Chairperson of the KP-BoIT, president Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industries (SCCI) and president Women Chamber of Commerce and Industries. BlackBerry Stock Soars on Better-Than-Expected Results, Boosted Outlook
BlackBerry's profit and sales exceeded estimates on higher demand for its QNX automotive software. QNX sales were up more than 4% year-over-year. The company also raised its full-year outlook for total revenue and Secure Communications Ltd. (BB) shares took off Wednesday, a day after the security software provider posted better-than-anticipated results and raised its guidance following strong demand for its QNX automotive software. The Canadian firm posted fiscal 2026 first-quarter adjusted earnings per share (EPS) of $0.02, while analysts surveyed by Visible Alpha were expecting $0.00. Although revenue fell 1.4% year-over-year to $121.7 million, that still beat forecasts. Revenue for the QNX unit rose more than 4% to $57.5 million. However, it was down almost 5% to $59.5 million at the Secure Communications division, and Licensing revenue slipped more than 1% to $4.7 million. CEO John Giamatteo said the company had "a strong start to the new fiscal year, building on the solid foundation we as a company have laid over the past year." BlackBerry now sees full-year revenue of $508 million to $538 million, up from its previous estimate of $504 million to $534 million. It expects Secure Communications sales of $234 million to $244 million versus the earlier outlook of $230 million to $240 million.
