Lidl shoppers can get free groceries at all 229 Irish stores this week
Many households across Ireland are struggling with the ongoing cost of living crisis, with rising grocery bills a constant worry. Every trip to the supermarket feels more expensive, forcing shoppers to tighten their budgets and find new ways to save - because even small discounts on everyday essentials can make a big difference. Lidl Ireland has just announced a new rewards scheme that lets shoppers earn points redeemable for free groceries or money-off coupons at all 229 stores across Ireland. The Lidl Points scheme goes live this Thursday, June 26, via the Lidl Plus app. To celebrate its 25th anniversary in Ireland, Lidl is kicking off the scheme by awarding all Lidl Plus app users a special 25-point bonus on launch day. After that, customers will earn one point for every €1 spent by simply scanning their Lidl Plus app or entering their phone number at checkout. Points accumulate in the app and can be redeemed for free products or vouchers to save on future shopping trips. There's no minimum spend required, and points can be collected on up to three transactions per day. Activated coupons remain valid for 15 days, while unused points can be stored for up to two years. Certain items are excluded from the scheme, including alcohol, infant formula, checkout bags, lottery tickets, newspapers, medicines, nutritional supplements, gift cards, mobile top up and DRS deposits. This new rewards programme follows a successful trial that began in September 2023, during which shoppers claimed over €3 million worth of rewards. This initiative complements Lidl's existing offers available through the Lidl Plus app, including Scratch and Win promotions, Weekly Offers and Super Savers deals. Ivan Ryan, Chief Customer Officer for Lidl Ireland and Northern Ireland, said: "The Lidl Points rewards scheme has been a huge hit with our shoppers and is one of the many ways we continue to reward our customers through the Lidl Plus app. Trial users were highly satisfied with the scheme, and we've seen that reflected in redemption rates of money off vouchers and coupons for free products. "As Ireland's best value retailer, we are always exploring new ways to bring value to our customers. This new rewards scheme represents a fresh offering to customers and enables shoppers to choose how they want to be rewarded, on top of our already market leading prices. "We've seen a real shift in customer shopping habits over the last number of months and shoppers have never been more price conscious. The new Lidl Points scheme not only extends our shopper rewards, but it's the only scheme that allows customers to pick specific items to save on, when they want to, empowering shoppers to benefit from discounts in the way that they choose and brings a more personalised rewards scheme experience compared to some other retailers. "We're delighted to roll out this new reward programme as we mark our 25th anniversary in Ireland and we look forward to seeing even more shopper's benefit."

Top gardening trends of 2025 GARDENING experts at Barnsdale Gardens has shared the top gardening trends of 2025. Matrix planting It seems that a top planting trend for this year is going to be Matrix Planting. In essence, planting in groups or blocks to give an effect of being wild whilst actually being carefully managed. Selection of the plants is essential, to give year-round interest either with flowers, seed heads or frosted/snowy spent flower heads. Some recommend using plants that seed around, but this could make managing your matrix planting harder to keep under control. Chrysanthemum comeback I hope that the humble Chrysanthemum makes as much of a comeback this year as Dahlias have over recent years, because the simple single flowered types, such as 'Innocence' and 'Cottage Apricot' would be spectacular within a matrix scheme. The hardy varieties are so easy to grow in a sunny spot and give such a valuable burst of late summer and autumn colour that would lift any dull- looking border. Blended borders For some time now we have been promoting the growing of veg within ornamental borders and I think this could really take off this year. The choice of ornamental-looking varieties available in seed catalogues is phenomenal and, if managed correctly, visitors to your garden will not even realise that you have veg growing! Must-have tool My secret is out. I discovered the Hori Hori a couple of years ago and now it seems so is everyone else. It is such a well-made, adaptable tool that can be used as a trowel or weeding tool in the garden that and everyone I speak to who have used it absolutely would not now be without it. Enough said! What else is on offer? If you're searching for a hanging garden chair, it's a good idea to compare prices to get the best deal. Lidl currently seems to have the most affordable option available. While B&Q offers a similar chair, it comes at a much higher price. The Maeria Dark Grey Hanging Egg Chair is currently available for £160. Meanwhile, Asda's Hanging Egg Chair is available online and in-store for £148.

How to compare prices to get the best deal JUST because something is on offer, or is part of a sale, it doesn't mean it's always a good deal. There are plenty of comparison websites out there that'll check prices for you - so don't be left paying more than you have to. Most of them work by comparing the prices across hundreds of retailers. Here are some that we recommend: Google Shopping is a tool that lets users search for and compare prices for products across the web. Simply type in keywords, or a product number, to bring up search results. Price Spy logs the history of how much something costs from over 3,000 different retailers, including Argos, Amazon, eBay and the supermarkets. Once you select an individual product you can quickly compare which stores have the best price and which have it in stock. Idealo is another website that lets you compare prices between retailers. All shoppers need to do is search for the item they need and the website will rank them from the cheapest to the most expensive one. CamelCamelCamel only works on goods being sold on Amazon. To use it, type in the URL of the product you want to check the price of.

Lidl creates Freeway version of Dua Lipa's pickle drink
Lidl is creating a version of Dua Lipa's viral pickle cola drink with its own Freeway for fans at her Wembley Stadium shows on 20 and 21 June, giving the trending concoction away for free. The singer previously showed off her cola, pouring pickle and jalapeño juice into diet soda in a video that amassed over 13 million views on TikTok. Fans can now try it at Lidl's pickle truck popping up at King's Cross Square on 20 and 21 June 4pm-8pm, enroute to the singer's Wembley Stadium shows. The drink combines Lidl's Freeway Diet Cola with a pickle syrup, using Lidl's Freshona Pickled Gherkins and Freshona Sliced Jalapenos - poured over ice. Fans will also get access to an exclusive Lidl Plus offer giving them 20% off Freeway Diet Cola in store. Visitors will need to scan a QR code at the truck on Friday or Saturday to unlock the deal. Lidl is even offering to provide its pickle cola truck for the singer's upcoming wedding - supplying friends and family. Last year saw the supermarket launch its big red Freeway Truck which drove across the country in the run up to Christmas, giving away 2,000 present boxes.
