LRT-2 operations delayed due to technical glitch
The Light Rail Transit (LRT) Authority announced on Wednesday, June 25, 2025 that the start of the operations of its LRT-2 will be delayed due to a technical problem. The train management said that its Antipolo and Recto Stations will open at 6 a.m. The train typically begins operations at 5 a.m. LRT-2 operates with 13 stations from west to east of Metro Manila. —LDF, GMA Integrated News

No LRT service on Line 1 this weekend for planned maintenance
An eastbound O-Train pulls in to Rideau Station on the Confederation Line of the Light Rail Transit system in Ottawa, Ont. (Brenda Woods/CTV Ottawa) Line 1 O-Train service will be offline this weekend. Planned maintenance occurring on Line 1 this month requires some partial or full interruptions to service for passengers, with most of the work occurring at night or on weekends. Service stopped early the evenings of June 6, 7, and 8, with more days of interruptions planned. The next planned shutdown takes place this weekend and will affect the whole line. 'The maintenance and Stage 2 East integration activities will continue as planned on June 14 and 15. During the weekend there is no train service on Line 1 and R1 bus service will be running between Tunney's Pasture and Blair stations,' said Transit Services general manager Renée Amilcar in a memo Thursday. The Line 1 east extension is getting closer to completion, with the Transit Committee hearing Thursday that the public is expected to be riding the train east from Blair Station to Trim Station in Orléans before the end of the year. The maintenance schedule for Line 1 also includes no train service on the entire line between 8 a.m. and noon on June 22 and on June 29, with R1 buses moving transit riders between Tunney's Pasture and Blair stations during those times. Amilcar says these interruptions are required for additional adjustments to Line 1 service for Stage 2 East Extension integration work. A planned early closure on Thursday night did not happen, as Amilcar said work was completed ahead of schedule. Line 1 service was slated to be offline between uOttawa and Blair stations after 10 p.m. Thursday, with R1 bus service running between Rideau and Blair stations, but instead ran as normal until 1 a.m. 'Since June 6, Rideau Transit Maintenance (RTM) has been performing annual maintenance activities on O-Train Line 1. They have been able to accelerate some of the work, and as a result the early closure of Line 1 on Thursday, June 12 is no longer required,' Amilcar wrote. 'Customers have been advised through all our communication channels that Line 1 service will continue to operate until the normal closing time.'

Not the first time: Has Anthony Loke been negligent over Taiwanese's fatal fall onto LRT track?
A LAWYER has demanded Anthony Loke Siew Fook to apologise and resign as Transport Minister after an elderly Taiwanese man died after he was run over by a Light Rail Transit (LRT) train at the Pusat Bandar Puchong station recently. Charles Hector who is also a human rights activist further contended that not only had the Seremban MP failed to ensure adequate safety measures were put in place, the incident which occurred at 5.54pm on Tuesday (June 3) was not the first as another person also died in February this year after having fallen onto the LRT tracks. 'This is not the first case so the Minister knew but did nothing or had procrastinated until yet another died,' Hector hit out on his latest blog. 'To protect people from walking and falling onto tracks, and possibly killed by oncoming trains requires safety measures like platform doors that prevent people from walking close to tracks and falling or jumping on tracks. 'Such is a standard safety measure in many countries that should have long been in place in all LRT and also train stations.' Earlier reports stated that CCTV footage showed 63-year-old Chang Pao-Shih who entered Malaysia on May 31 was walking alone before falling onto the tracks and being hit by the LRT train. Yesterday (June 6), the police had confirmed that there was no criminal element involved in the fatal incident with Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan stating that the incident was the result of the victim's own actions and the case remains classified as sudden death (SDR). 'Investigations found no indication of foul play or negligence. We've evidence indicating that the victim fell due to his own actions,' Bernama cited him as telling reporters. Elaborating on an earlier February 2025 incident, Hector recounted that a visually impaired man died after falling onto the tracks at the Titiwangsa LRT station and was struck by a train. 'Similarly, in 2018, a man died at the same Puchong station where the latest incident occurred when he descended onto the tracks and was hit by an oncoming train,' lamented Hector who is the co-founder of NGO Malaysians Against Death Penalty & Torture (MADPET). 'At risk, have been persons of disability with the Society of the Blind in Malaysia (SBM) having highlighted in February 2025 that to-date, there have been at least 20 accidents involving visually impaired individuals falling onto rail tracks at Monorail, LRT or KTM stations.' Considering that the DAP secretary-general has assumed office as the Transport Minister in November 2022, Hector is adamant that Loke is fully aware of the problem, hence 'it's his fault' for failing to implement safety measures – whether permanent or temporary – to prevent such incidents. 'Maybe a placement of chains/ropes to prevent anyone falling off the tracks where it is removed when the train arrives to facilitate entry/exit without incident,' suggested the lawyer who has a practice in Temerloh, Pahang. SHAH ALAM: Police have confirmed that there was no criminal element involved in the death of a Taiwanese man who was run over by a Light Rail Transit (LRT) train at the Pusat Bandar Puchong station last Tuesday. Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the incident was the result of the victim's actions, and the case remains classified as sudden death (SDR). "Investigations found no indication of foul play or negligence. "We have evidence indicating that the victim fell due to his own actions," he told reporters here today. Earlier reports stated that CCTV footage showed the 63-year-old man, who entered Malaysia on May 31, walking alone before falling onto the tracks and being hit by the LRT train. Police have contacted the victim's family in Taiwan for further action.
