Police keep an 'open mind' over cause of Grantham house fire
A house fire in Grantham is being investigated by police following multiple recent arson attacks in the Fire and Rescue attended the blaze in Dysart Road at about 23:30 BST on fire caused significant damage to the roof and first-floor of the house. Lincolnshire Police said it was "keeping an open mind" about whether there was a connection with three other fires in the town confirmed as being arson attacks. The fire is believed to have started in the garden before spreading to the house and damaging a neighbouring was at home at the time. Advice after exploding vape destroys three houses in Gainsborough
A warning about vapes has been issued after a fire left three houses exploding vape caused the fire in Gainsborough last Fire and Rescue said a preliminary investigation found the vape had exploded after it had overheated. Dan Moss, the service's area manager for prevention and protection, said: "If you're using vapes or any device that needs charging, make sure you're using the manufacturer's charger, unplug it once it is fully charged, don't leave it overnight or unattended, and stop using it if the battery shows signs of swelling, overheating or damage." Witnesses told BBC Radio Lincolnshire the vape was being charged on a bed and had burst into flames at the house in Grey Street. The fire service said the blaze spread through the roof space, causing significant damage to three houses and smoke damage to a fourth. Sheila Simmons, who lived in one of the affected houses, said the roof had "all collapsed in" and, "basically, all the families have lost everything".Mr Moss said: "This incident in Gainsborough really serves to highlight why we advise residents to use and charge electricals safely."Fortunately, nobody has been injured in this case, but three houses have been made uninhabitable and another partially damaged, all from a single, seemingly innocuous, vape."Andy Wright, principal trading standards officer at Lincolnshire County Council, said: "Vape-related house fires are often caused by cheap, counterfeit products such as chargers which can often lack important safety features."We cannot stress enough just how important it is to buy vapes and e-cigarettes which meet the necessary safety requirements from reputable retailers." Terraced homes fire in Gainsborough caused by exploding vape
An exploding vape caused a major fire which badly damaged a row of houses in Gainsborough, a fire service has blaze started at a property on Grey Street at about 13:15 BST on Friday before spreading to three other Fire and Rescue described it as a "significant fire" but said that nobody had been its height, eight engines were on scene, including from Nottinghamshire and Humberside Fire and Rescue, with nearby residents told to keep all doors and windows shut. Disposable barbeques 'significant' cause of fires in Lincolnshire
Disposable barbeques have become a "significant issue" for firefighters, an officer has Fire and Rescue was called out to 33 incidents related to barbecues last year. Dan Moss, an area manager with the service, said fires could start when the single-use trays were used in the wrong setting or not discarded properly. "We recognise they're there to be used and we want people to have fun in the sun, but what we're asking is for people to be really vigilant," he added. Mr Moss urged people to use the barbecues in dedicated areas with hard-standing."Make sure there's no dry areas around you, certainly long grass or wooded areas," he said. As the weather gets warmer, the fire service is urging people to take greater care when discarding waste and smoking materials. Barbecues should be disposed of "properly" in a way that ensured there would not be a fire, Mr Moss said."We want people to enjoy summer, but there's lots of issues that then come with that," he added. "Certainly with the dry spells that we're having."
