Overnight closures planned for new T-junction work
A project to turn a Nottingham city centre roundabout into a T-junction is on target to finish on schedule by mid-August. But four weeks of overnight closures will be needed for the Maid Marian Way regeneration project from 21 July. As part of the £8.97m Nottingham City Council project, the Maid Marian Way island - which connected the road with Derby Road, Tollhouse Hill and Upper Parliament Street - was removed in autumn last year. The final phase of work requires closures to allow resurfacing work to be carried out. These will take place from Monday to Thursday from 22:00 to 06:00 BST, with diversions in place. Work began in spring 2024, with officials saying the roundabout was "outdated" and a barrier to movement for pedestrians and cyclists around the city centre. The new traffic signals on the junction went live in June. As well as resurfacing work, contractor Thomas Bow is also still to install rainwater drainage channels and a rain garden, and to finish installing paving, benches and kerbs. Teams will return in the winter to plant more than 40 trees. A public artwork is also planned for the area. City councillor for transport, Linda Woodings, said "the end is in sight" for the project. She added: "To minimise disruption, these resurfacing works will be done overnight - thank you to the local businesses, residents and those who travel through the area for bearing with us." Bridge to close for repainting work
One of the main bridges over the River Trent will be closed for maintenance work starting next week. According to the city council, the Lady Bay Bridge, which dates from 1878, was built as a rail crossing but converted to road use in 1979. The iron structure needs regular repainting to protect it from corrosion, a job which was last done in 2010, the local authority added. The work is due to start on 16 June but road closures will take place overnight between 7 July and 17 August. The road closure will be from 20:00 to 06:00 BST on weekdays with diversions put in place. The footpath will also be closed from 08:30 to 17:30 on weekdays between 7 July and 20 August. Work is due to finish in October. Linda Woodings, from the city council, said: "This work is an important investment in Nottingham's infrastructure. "Together with the county council we are committed to maintaining and keeping Lady Bay Bridge looking its best, and most importantly, this work will help to protect and preserve the bridge for many years to come." The county council is managing the project, which is jointly funded by the city council. Follow BBC Nottingham on Facebook, on X, or on Instagram.
