'I married a lookalike of my celebrity crush from Line of Duty'
'I married a lookalike of my celebrity crush from Line of Duty' Kelsey Willmott has long harboured a major crush on Scottish actor Martin Compston, who played detective inspector Steve Arnott in the hit BBC drama A loved-up bride claims her 'dreams came true' when she married her Line of Duty lookalike crush - who's stopped in the street daily by adoring women. Kelsey Willmott has harboured a major crush on Scottish actor Martin Compston who famously played detective inspector Steve Arnott in the hit BBC drama, since the first series. So when the 30-year-old stumbled across Arron Willmott's profile on Bumble in March 2021 she immediately swiped right, drawn to his brunette locks, facial hair and chiselled jaw line. After chatting on the app for two weeks, the pair met for a walk for their first date, with Kelsey admitting she was initially unaware of how similar the pair locked. But weeks into their fledgling relationship Kelsey was stunned when she suddenly realised why she initially had the hots for the 31-year-old - who was the spitting image of the hunky actor. After dating for three-and-half years they got engaged before getting hitched on May 2 at a stately home in Somerset. As she walked down the aisle towards Arron, Kelsey said it was a 'dream come true' as not only was she marrying her 'perfect' partner but also a man that looked like Martin Compston. It is not just loved-up Kelsey who's noticed the similarity, with Arron being stopped daily in the street by strangers remarking on the uncanny resemblance. Kelsey and Arron on their wedding day While Kelsey's own friends cheekily commented 'only she could marry someone who looks like her celebrity crush when she shared a video about it on TikTok. Kelsey, from Merthyr Tydfil, said: "We met on Bumble and I made the first move. Article continues below "I hadn't clicked about the similarities initially but I just knew I liked what I saw. A few weeks into our dating the penny dropped and I realised he looked so much like him (Martin Compston). I'm a big fan of Line of Duty and have watched all the series. I said to him 'you do look like Martin Compston' and when you see it you can't unsee it. "Martin Compston is a big celebrity crush and right up my street. I think subconsciously I 100 per cent swiped on Arron. My aunty said to me 'he looks exactly like the man on Line of Duty'. It was something people kept mentioning. I don't think my parents had really realised my crush on Martin Compston. "I may have said he was fit when watching the programme but you're not constantly going on about it as you think there's no chance. You could say I got my chance now as I'm with someone who looks exactly like him. "I think as Arron has gotten older, he looks more like him as Martin is a bit older than Arron. When I was walking down the aisle towards him it was surreal. Aaron is physically everything that is my type, but also the person he is as well. "It was like a fairy tale and everything you pictured it to be when you're younger. My dreams came true. My friends always say I come up smelling of roses because only I could marry someone that looks like my crush." Martin Compston first starred in the lead role of detective sergeant Steve Arnott in 2012 when the BBC police drama Line of Duty first aired. The series then returned in 2014 for five more series in which the 5ft 6ins actor was seen to continue his star role as a detective in an anti-corruption squad. Kelsey says that Arron is told on a daily basis in public that he looks like Martin Compston, usually by women. Kelsey said: "After the TikTok went viral, we were both laughing as it's something we know he looks like and friends and family know. "But when you get strangers saying they can't tell the difference between them, it's crazy. People have come up to him to tell him he looks really like the guy from Line of Duty. "It's probably girls in the street that have a similar crush on Martin Compston, as awful as that is to think. They are probably looking at him thinking 'he looks like Martin and is quite good looking'." Arron says he could not describe the feeling when he first saw Kelsey walking down the aisle but footage shows him wiping tears from his cheeks in the emotional moment. The 5ft 11ins man says he is a big Line of Duty fan so does not mind the daily comparisons but says he is thankful for being taller than the Scottish actor. Aaron, also from Merthyr Tydfil, said: "I love Line of Duty so it's pretty cool. I don't mind (the comparison) but I'm a little bit taller than him, thank God. I get told on a daily basis I look like him. When people see me they always think they've seen me before and then the penny drops." After sharing a video on TikTok of photos of Arron next to the Line of Duty star, the post racked up more than 300,000 views, with users apparently stunned by how similar they look. One wrote: "Is this a really bad game of spot the difference, because I am struggling." Article continues below Another added: "She really said copy and paste." A third commented: "Why did I think these were all pictures of the same man?" A fourth wrote: "I personally think your husband is better looking than Martin but don't tell him or my hubby I said so. You go girl."

Line of Duty wrapped up with a 'final' series in 2021, but speculation remains rife that a seventh season is still on the cards. Series creator Jed Mercurio and a number of its stars have added fuel to the fire in recent years, hinting that a seventh season may yet emerge. Until then, fans and newcomers alike will be able to revisit all six series of a show some have dubbed 'the best police procedural show in TV history.' Across all six series of the show, Line of Duty currently boasts a 96% positive approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes from critics. This is backed up by its equally healthy audience score – 94%, according to the review aggregator. Fans have frequently heaped praise on it as one of the greatest shows ever produced in the UK, with Rotten Tomatoes user Erik K describing it as 'The best police procedural show in TV history!' Meanwhile, user Chet T described it as 'exceptionally well written,' while Andi called it 'the peak of any crime TV.' Despite wrapping up in 2021, the series left enough stones unturned that the door remains open for a seventh series. Speaking to The Sun this year, star Compston weighed in on rumours of a return, revealing: 'We're always talking about possibilities and schedules and whatnot.' However, he quickly quashed viewers hopes, saying: 'Everybody's got stuff going on at the minute, so I think anything, unfortunately, would be a way off.' Pressed on an update on series 7, McClure told 'There is no news. That is the news, no news!' In Line of Duty's absence, viewers will be able to get their fix in the new upcoming political thriller from the show's creator, Trinity. More Trending Written and executive produced by Jed Mercurio, this Netflix series will star Gugu Mbatha-Raw as a nuclear submarine commander who becomes embroiled in an apparent conspiracy when she meets shady defence secretary Webb Preston. With Webb being played by former Game of Thrones star Richard Madden, the series marks the reunion of Bodyguard creator Mercurio and star Madden. TV fans are already sold on Line of Duty creator's new Netflix thriller
Line of Duty creator Jed Mercurio has begun work on a new TV thriller for Netflix, starring Richard Madden. The pair previously collaborated on the 2018 miniseries Bodyguard, which starred the former Game of Thrones actor as a protection officer for politician Julia Montague (Keeley Hawes). Showrunner Mercurio followed this with perhaps his best known work – the hit series Line of Duty, which ran on the BBC from 2012 to 2021. Mercurio will reunite with Madden for the forthcoming thriller Trinity, which he will also write and executive produce. The eight-part series will also star Gugu Mbatha-Raw, who plays nuclear submarine commander Decker. Becoming involved with shady defence secretary Webb Preston (played by the former Game of Thrones star), she grows increasingly convinced that there's a conspiracy afoot. Wake up to find news on your TV shows in your inbox every morning with Metro's TV Newsletter. Sign up to our newsletter and then select your show in the link we'll send you so we can get TV news tailored to you. Knowing Mercurio's work as we do, twists will ensue. Reacting to news of the series being greenlit, fans shared their thoughts on Trinty's potential over social media. 'Gugu + Madden = must-see spy action, Netflix. Hype!' exclaimed TrpstrLeonOG on X. 'The casting director cooked with these two,' said Joe_Teffo. 'You got me at Richard Madden. Bring it on!' commented deereads_novels. 'Sold,' said EggFlip, over on Reddit. 'Here for this,' agreed Logical-Balance1975. Only a synopsis for the series has been released so far, reading: 'A heroic female naval officer becomes involved with the outwardly charismatic secretary of defence, only to discover he may be at the heart of a dangerous conspiracy.' Loki star Mbatha-Raw will play naval officer Decker, while Madden appears as the mysterious defense secretary. With Mercurio on showrunner duties, he will share executive producer responsibilities with Hat Trick Studios' Jimmy Mulville. Meanwhile, the first two episodes will be written and directed by Daredevil: Born Again and Dexter director Michael Cuesta. Mercurio may be looking to the future with his latest TV project, but fans aren't ready to move on from his biggest hit just yet. Earlier this year, star Martin Compston added fuel to the fire when he weighed in on rumours that a seventh series of the crime drama was in the works. 'We're always talking about possibilities and schedules and whatnot,' he told The Sun. However, he immediately dampened the flames by admitting: 'Everybody's got stuff going on at the minute, so I think anything, unfortunately, would be a way off.' Elsewhere, others have held out hope that Bodyguard might return for a second series. When the first season was released, Mercurio said that he would 'absolutely' bring the show back for a second series. More Trending While that never emerged, producer Simon Heath teased as recently as 2021 that it might one day still be made. 'Bodyguard is a big beast to put back together. I'm reasonably confident we will see it in due course,' he told 'With Line Of Duty, again, we don't know whether season six will be the last,' he added. View More » Will Trinity fill the void? Netflix fans can rediscover Stephen Graham's 'forgotten' period drama
The Adolescence star plays Inspector Heat Netflix has subtly added all episodes of Stephen Graham's 'forgotten' period drama based on a highly praised novel. The four-part series, The Secret Agent, is now accessible to subscribers of the streaming service. Originally aired on the BBC in 2016, the mini-series is now available for a wider audience. The show masterfully combines elements of period drama and spy thriller, although even ardent fans of these genres may have overlooked it. Set in London in 1886, it follows a shopkeeper who moonlights as a spy for the Russian Embassy, finding himself under pressure to execute a politically-motivated act of terrorism, all while grappling with the risk of his true identity being revealed. The Secret Agent is an adaptation of the renowned satirical novel by Joseph Conrad, first published in 1907. Despite not achieving commercial success upon its release, it has since been recognised as one of Conrad's finest works. Some critics have even hailed it as ahead of its time due to its exploration of global terrorism themes, reports Surrey Live. Toby Jones heads the cast as Anton Verloc, the eponymous secret agent, alongside some of the most familiar faces in British television. Vicky McClure, known for her role in Line of Duty, portrays his wife Winnie, while Charlie Hamblett plays her brother Stevie, later appearing in Missing You, a Harlan Coben adaptation for Netflix. Stephen Graham from Adolescence also features, taking on the role of Chief Inspector Heat. When the series first aired, it received a mixed reception from critics. The Radio Times praised it as "a gripping period tale exploring urgent modern anxieties." while The Telegraph was less favourable, describing it as "one of the bleakest, murkiest and most disturbing dramas this year". The original book's complexity led esteemed film critic Roger Ebert to once deem it unfilmable, which might explain why the adaptation didn't resonate with everyone. Some reviewers expressed dissatisfaction with minor deviations from the source material. Nevertheless, there are fans who have come out in support of the series amidst the critiques. A fan defended the show online, stating: "I'm puzzled by the reviews that claim all of Conrad's brilliant story have been abandoned. Utterly untrue. All the main points of the original story are here. The betrayals, the ethical compromises, the cowardice. Not a single one missing. What had changed is how the story is told. Conrad jumped back and forth, a device that works better on writing than on TV." They elaborated further: "The result is a thoughtful carefully constructed story that resists the urge to pick up the tempo just for the sake of a little excitement. Some lovely performances by the whole cast. No one is cast as either superhero or supervillain. These are ordinary people of no great distinction, no matter their place in life. Both evil and justice are flawed and banal." Another chimed in: "This is a totally enthralling production. It is very contemporary in its topic. Considering when the story was originally written, it has a very modern appeal. The story has twists and turns. The ending is very intriguing. The acting is excellent. Toby Jones and all the cast give marvellous performances. I would highly recommend this." The Secret Agent is streaming on Netflix.
