Man makes £20k a month from side hustle that 11m Brits could also do – it's effortless and can be done all year round
Watch the video for more top tips on how to start your own side hustle CASH IN Man makes £20k a month from side hustle that 11m Brits could also do – it's effortless and can be done all year round A MAN has revealed he makes a whopping £20,000 a month from a little known side hustle, that requires hardly any effort. Barrie Taube, owns 150 garages and 300 car parking spaces across the country, and rents them out to people in need of storage space. Advertisement 2 Barrie makes £20k a month from renting out garages Credit: Linkedin 2 11 million people in the UK have a garage, with many left empty Credit: Getty Renting Out Garages The property investor and surveyor charges between £50 to £150 a month for garages, and between £30 and £60 for car parking spaces. 'We rent to people who live in blocks of flats; we will approach them and see if they want to rent them out", Barrie, who owns that garages through his business Southern Land Securities, told The i Paper. "For the car parking spaces, they might have an extra car or just want an extra space." Barrie revealed that he also rents out his parking spaces to people who need them for a short period of time, such as if they are attending a football match or a concert. Advertisement In the UK, an estimated 11 million people own a garage, with half of these not used to store cars. That means that millions of Brits could also be cashing in on this side hustle. Hardly Any Maintenance The investor also owns many properties which he rents out to tenants, but revealed that renting out garages comes with many advantages, such as the lack of upkeep. 'There's not much to maintain, just the roof, walls and the garage door", he said. Advertisement 'If the roof is leaking, you make the decision whether to mend it but, in general, when someone signs the lease, they agree to maintain it and to give it back in the condition they rented it in.' He added that it also costs a lot less to purchase garages, which cost around £10,000 to £30,000 in most locations. I earn cash by selling 'actual rubbish' on eBay - I flogged a freebie I found on the floor by a bin for £10, it's crazy In Mayfair, garages can sell for up to £300,000, however, Barrie explained that people in these areas are happy to pay much more to keep their posh cars safe. 'If you had a garage in Mayfair, you could get £500 a month or more in rent", he said. Advertisement "If someone has a car worth a few hundred thousand pounds, they will pay this to know it's safe.' How to make cash from renting out your garage If you have spare garage space, you can make cash by renting it out for storage, using websites such as Stashbee and Storemates. You can also advertise your garage on Facebook Marketplace or Gumtree. When listing your garage, make sure to include key details, such as photographs, the size of the space, notable features, and whether the area has its own independent access. It is also a good idea to arrange viewings, to make sure the space is right for potential renters. Make sure to take any costs into account, as Stashbee charges a 5% fee on bookings, while Storemates deducts 16.5% plus 20p from each payment. Gumtree generally offers free advertisements, but specific surcharges apply for garage storage or car parking listings (£8.79) and for linking to an external website (£6.59). According to Stuart Collar-Brown, from online auctioneer Bidx1 UK garages are much more profitable than buy-to-let properties, pulling in yields averaging 10 percent, compared with a 4.75 percent average for rental properties. Landlords Ditching Properties To Rent Out Garages 'Garages offer a great alternative to storage costs for tradesmen, so they'll perform well in densely populated residential areas, especially where houses are rows of Victorian houses [and] where parking on the street is tricky due to a lack of driveways, so demand will outstrip supply.' He added that, in light of the Renters Reform Bill, which is set to come in over the coming months, many landlords are switching their business to garages. Advertisement 'We're definitely seeing a shift of residential landlords into non-residential assets, so this would include commercial, industrial, garages and other similar asset classes,' he said. 'The sheer amount of red tape that landlords have to wade through now is becoming too much hassle, so they are looking for an easier way to earn yields on their investment." Arguably, the council are no longer building garages either, so the fact that they are not building more suggests, long term, there will be some capital appreciation too.' However, Barrie revealed that since many people have now cottoned on to the fact that garages are good investments, they are reluctant to sell. Advertisement He added that it can be harder to get loans on garages than properties as banks often ask for larger deposits. Plus, he revealed: "If a tenant fills a garage with rubbish and then refuses to pay their rent, you have to pay for it to be cleared out".

Is This The Boost That Donor Advised Funds Need To Hit Their Stride?
The Donor Advised Fund market is big with an estimated $250 billion held in these consumer-level, tax-advantaged charitable savings accounts, but the industry still needs technological and marketing innovation to realize its potential. Big news in DAF-land was this week's launch of GoFundMe Giving Funds, a virtual space that enables consumers to easily create their own DAFs. 'This new giving tool brings the power of donor-advised funds (DAFs) to a broader audience, eliminating traditional barriers like high minimums and fees,' explained Margaret Richardson, GoFundMe's chief marketing and corporate affairs officer. Margaret Richardson, GoFundMe's chief marketing and corporate affairs officer. More than 200 million people have made $40 billion+ in contributions via the GoFundMe giving platform during the last 15 years. The skills GoFundMe has amassed at moving donors to donate excites Mitch Stein, head of strategy at Chariot, a fintech company focused on DAFs. Awareness of DAFs is the greatest limiting factor in the field's growth, explained Stein who has co-authored two annual studies of the DAF field. 'So now we have a company with a business model solely driven by giving, with phenomenal reach and a consumer marketing engine that's pushing a DAF product,' Stein wrote on Linkedin. 'It's brilliant! And it's helpful for every player in the DAF industry.' Chariot Head of Strategy Mitch Stein Those players include major financial firms like Vanguard, Schwab and Fidelity who each manage billions of dollars in DAF assets. 'My biggest gripe with the DAF market and major providers is that they don't market DAFs to their full client base, and so the utilization is typically below 1%,' wrote Stein. 'The vast majority of people with a brokerage account at these places don't even know what a DAF is! Trust me I ask just about everyone I meet.' Richardson said that initially GoFundMe's major marketing push for Giving Funds will be to its community of 200 million giving platform users via email, and social channels. While it will be free to set up a DAF and give from a DAF, donors can choose to leave an optional tip to help sustain the GoFundMe Giving Fund, the 501(c)(3) nonprofit that powers Giving Funds, she explained. If GoFundMe's Giving Funds initiative is successful it should significantly move the needle when it comes to establishing more DAFs. In addition, the company hopes that online tools it is releasing will move more people than the national DAF averages to actively find and support nonprofits with contributions. Making it easier for DAF holders to donate has been the bread and butter of Chariot since 2023. Traditionally if a consumer was inspired to give from their DAF, they could not simply go to the website of the nonprofit they wanted to support. They had to visit online the financial services company that manages their DAF and fill out forms to make the contribution. This form of 'contribution interruptus' derailed many a gift. To counter this, Chariot markets a DAFpay widget to nonprofits which can integrate it directly into their donations forms thus making it easier for donors to give spontaneously. Making such transactions easier is particularly important because – unlike conventional wisdom that assumed DAFs were only used by the ultrawealthy for major gifts -- 69% of all DAF gifts are less than $1,000, according to the recently released DAF Fundraising Report 2025.

5 Great Games For Less Than $5 In The Steam Summer Sale
Disco Elysium is one of the most stylish games you'll ever play Video games have become excruciatingly expensive in recent years, whether you're buying one-offs or paying a monthly subscription. However, the Steam Summer Sale is always an opportunity to pick up a few bargains. Here, then, are five brilliant games that you can pick up for less than $5. Disco Elysium - The Final Cut (PC, Mac, Steam Deck) Disco Elysium is unlike any other game you'll ever play – a triumph of dark humor and stunning presentation. The graphics look like a Francis Bacon painting, the voice acting is HBO-grade, the Sea Power soundtrack could not be a better fit. You play a car crash of a detective, who emerges from a trashed hotel room to solve a murder in a town where the locals are about as helpful as an abscess. With the assistance of your disapproving partner, Lieutenant Kim Kitsuragi, you have to uncover clues and piece together what happened, while trying to ignore the voices in your head and the urge to reach for the bottle. Disco Elysium lets you experiment with different play styles, some of which push the detective's behavior to wild extremes. The skills tree is a little bewildering and the game does occasionally dip into the mundane, but it's an unmissable bargain at $3.99. FEATURED | Frase ByForbes™ Unscramble The Anagram To Reveal The Phrase Pinpoint By Linkedin Guess The Category Queens By Linkedin Crown Each Region Crossclimb By Linkedin Unlock A Trivia Ladder Frostpunk (PC, Mac) It's colony management in the cold with Frostpunk Continuing the rather bleak theme, Frostpunk is a superb survival game, where you have to manage a colony in bitingly cold conditions. It's both a challenge of resource management and diplomacy, as you try and maintain morale and order, while pushing the populace to endure ever-greater hardship. It's another game that looks stunning, with the smoke and steam belching out of your futuristic-looking city, growing ever-more impressive as it expands. For my money, Frostpunk is a better game than its successor, which is still well worth playing once you've had time to defrost after this. Although it's a bit more pricey than the $4.49 you'll pay for this original. Mini Metro (PC, Mac, Steam Deck) If you've ever stood on a crammed metro platform wondering why the train's taking so long to arrive, you might have more sympathy after playing Mini Metro. This cracking little game puts you in charge of designing a metro system, starting off with a single line running from A to B, that soon expands into a dropped plate of spaghetti with a terrifying number of intersections and dependencies. You can design subways for several real-world cities (New York, London and Paris included), and if the stress of making the trains run on time proves overwhelming, there's a sandbox mode where you can play without pressure. At $4.99 it's probably cheaper than a ticket on the real metro, too. Lumines Remastered (PC, Steam Deck) Lumines is Tetris meets techno Lumines is a forgotten classic, first appearing on the PSP handheld way back in 2002. There's no doubt it's borrowed heavily from Tetris, but instead of slotting differently shaped blocks into a grid, you're charged with trying to form 2x2 squares of the same color to clear space. All this is done with a techno dance beat smashing away in the background, the tune changing with each different skin as you power through the levels. It looks astonishing on the Steam Deck OLED, although you might want to plug in headphones rather than rely on the tinny sound from its speakers. A must-have for Steam Deck owners at $4.49. Firewatch (PC, Mac, Steam Deck) Firewatch is a game that's hard to nail down. It's quite chilled, but yet tense. It's graphically stunning, yet simple. And it's hard to put down. You're Henry, a troubled soul who's taking a job as a fire lookout in the forest. Your only means of communication is a handheld radio with your supervisor. Things obviously don't run smoothly in your lookout tower, and before long a simple summer job turns into something of a psychological thriller. There's no combat or puzzles, so to speak. Just a well-written storyline to follow and unpick – a story that's well worth the current $3.99 asking price. The Steam Summer Sale ends on July 7, so don't hang around if one of these games has caught your eye.

Microsoft to axe 9,000 jobs worldwide as company's 4,000 Irish staff wait for details
The cuts are to be implemented across several divisions and geographical offices, according to the Seattle Times, reporting from Microsoft's global headquarters. Microsoft employs around 4,000 people in Ireland, with a further 2,000 people employed at its subsidiary, Linkedin, which has a base in Dublin. Under Irish law, Microsoft is required to notify the government of any significant job-cutting plans. The tech giant has said that the layoffs are part of a restructuring effort for what it describes as 'organisational changes necessary to best position the company and teams for success in a dynamic marketplace'. The Irish Independent has contacted Microsoft for comment. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella recently disclosed that up to a third of programming at the tech company is now done by AI, with a higher percentage likely. However, the current cuts are thought to be aimed across several job categories, including sales and middle-management. The news comes just days after Intel said that it plans to cut up to 195 jobs from its 4,900-staff Kildare plant. The proposed cuts, details of which have been notified to the government as required under Irish law, would represent 4pc of the facility's workforce, a figure far short of the 20pc floated in a report by Bloomberg earlier this year. No information of staff positions or titles potentially affected have yet been disclosed. Details of financial compensation packages have also not been disclosed. However, the cuts are not expected to take effect before September, following an industrial relations process. The company has previously said that cuts would involve "streamlining the organisation, eliminating management layers', with no further detail on the sectors to be targeted, other than that it intended to shrink expenses in 'R&D, marketing, general and administrative' divisions.

‘Mecha Break' Is Finally Here, Get Ready For Some Epic Mecha Action
'Mecha Break' is finally out and available to play on PC and Xbox Series X|S. It's been a long while, but Mecha Break is finally here, and it delivers. With stunning visuals and fast-paced mecha combat, it's a blast to play. With multiple open betas and a long, troubled development history, it's taken a good while for the game to find its feet, but Mecha Break is now finally available to play on general release. It's also playable on Xbox Series X|S, and I've been giving it a proper go. It holds up surprisingly well on console with a pad, and it will be interesting to see how it does long-term. This is because, with the styling of the mecha designs and general high-speed aerial gameplay, I think that Mecha Break will find its audience mostly in Asia. So the choice of Xbox Series X|S to start with seems a bit strange, as the Xbox brand has never been popular in places like Japan, but a PlayStation 5 version is apparently still planned. You can also pick up the game over on PC via Steam, which is where I assume the bulk of the initial players will be. In any case, Mecha Break is a big and unashamed mecha game. Not a Gundam game trying to be an Overwatch clone, or a shooter with dudes cosplaying as mecha. FEATURED | Frase ByForbes™ Unscramble The Anagram To Reveal The Phrase Pinpoint By Linkedin Guess The Category Queens By Linkedin Crown Each Region Crossclimb By Linkedin Unlock A Trivia Ladder It's a proper mecha game, and hopefully one that will find its audience.
