A group of six experienced veteran open-water swimmers preparing to take on a gruelling swim off the Louth coast in aid of the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust are now appealing to the public to row in behind them and support their fund raising efforts.
The group, who have a combined age of 400 years, have branded themselves the Expendables as they train for the epic swim which will start from Gyles' Quay, on the southern shore of the Cooley Peninsula, finishing at Port Oriel, Clogherhead. If conditions go their way, it will be a 25km swim but currents and Lion Mane Jelly fish may see them having to swim 30km before coming ashore.
