Dua Lipa review: Pop superstar delights Aviva, Dublin with moving tribute to Sinéad O'Connor
We are firmly in the era of strong women dominating pop as female alpha Dua Lipa further proved on Friday night in Dublin. Almost a year to the day since Taylor Swift brought her juggernaut billion-dollar Eras Tour to Ireland, Lipa brought her own flavour of girl pop back to the same venue, with breakout artist Alessi Rose and Disney Channel star-turned-singer Dove Cameron warming up the crowd before the main event began at 8.40pm. The latest stop on the Radical Optimism tour, and her last European date, saw the English and Albanian singer thrill a predominantly young audience, belting out hit after hit to devoted fans. Filling the stands and standing together were groups of girlfriends, mothers and daughters, sisters and sisterhoods — with a few sprinkling of boys and men throughout too for good measure. Gig was like a homecoming The streets around the Aviva felt like a homecoming, a continuation of last year's epic experience of girlhood on the same weekend for gig-goers. Pubs overflowed with pals toasting their drinks, friends shared takeaways pizzas, and sequins sparkled in the sun as fans found their way to their seats. If you think you don't know a Dua Lipa song, you're wrong. Opening with Training Season, upping the ante with One Kiss and Physical, and bring it back to the Barbie movie with Dance The Night before wrapping up on Houdini, the global superstar's catalogue of hits is as impressive as her showmanship. She arrived through a mist of smoke wearing a sparkly bodysuit with matching heeled boots and threw herself into each piece of slick choreography, never missing a beat. 'This is unreal. Dublin, you ready to go to the moon?' she asked to deafening cheers. She posed for selfies with fans at the barricade, asking their names, celebrating birthdays, and sharing hugs. One tearful fan told her he saw her Future Nostalgia tour in Dublin and it inspired him to become a dancer. Local flavour on each tour date The usual setlist features a surprise song section. Traditionally Lipa uses this slot to pay tribute to each city she plays in ( 360 by — and with — Charli XCX was her nod to London, for example, while fans in Liverpool enjoyed covers of Hey Jude by The Beatles and Valerie by The Zutons). The question on everybody's lips en route to the show was all about this section, if there would be a surprise guest, and who it could be. Having brought Charli XCX and Jamiroquai out on stage for her Wembley gigs, rumours were swirling ahead of her Dublin appearance. Dermot Kennedy? Niall Horan? Jedward? As it happened, it was better than we expected. She performed a tribute to iconic Irish singer Sinéad O'Connor, who she described as an Irish legend. A touching rendition of the late star's anthem Nothing Compares 2 U was a poignant moment in the night as torchlights illuminated the night, a perfect touch for her Dublin date. 'Every night on this tour I sing a different song by a local artist,' she told the crowd. Tonight I am honoured to perform a song by a late Irish legend, Sinéad O'Connor. If you know the words, please sing along. And sing they did, in memory of a local legend lost too soon. • Lana Del Ray plays the Aviva Stadium on Monday night, continuing a trend of strong female headliners that other venues could learn from. Pop is popping off and we want more opportunities to dance the night away.

Dua Lipa said yes, but not to the dress just yet
Dua Lipa and Callum Turner are officially engaged, but wedding bells aren't ringing just yet. The couple, who sparked romance rumors in early 2024, are taking their time to enjoy their new chapter together. Lipa, 29, confirmed the engagement in a recent interview and revealed that Turner, 35, had the ring custom-designed with help from her sister and close friends. 'I'm obsessed with it,' she said. 'It's so me.' The pair aren't rushing to the altar. A source told People that while the couple has talked seriously about their future, they haven't begun planning the wedding. 'They're still in that celebratory bubble,' the source said, adding that Lipa is focused on her Radical Optimism tour while Turner is tied up with filming commitments. Despite their packed schedules, the couple remains close and connected. 'They're taking things at their own pace, and that's exactly how they want it,' the source noted. The couple met at London's River Café and bonded later over a shared love for the novel Trust by Hernan Díaz. They made their relationship public in January 2024 and were seen together at Glastonbury and the Met Gala, where fans noticed the engagement ring. While Lipa admits she never imagined what kind of bride she'd be, she's now finding herself thinking, 'Oh, what would I wear?' But for now, the couple is content being engaged and enjoying every moment of it.

Inside Dua Lipa and Callum Turner's Private Romance — and Why They Haven't Started Wedding Planning Yet (Exclusive Source)
Dua Lipa and Callum Turner first sparked romance rumors in early January 2024 The singer confirmed her engagement to the actor in June A source tells PEOPLE why the pair haven't started wedding planning yetFresh off confirming their engagement, Dua Lipa and Callum Turner are enjoying life as fiancés — but are not in any rush to head down the aisle. 'Dua is absolutely head over heels for Callum, and they've talked seriously about their future together, including marriage,' a source tells PEOPLE. 'But they just recently got engaged and are still very much in that celebratory bubble. They haven't even really begun the wedding planning process yet.' Lipa confirmed the happy news amid her Radical Optimism Tour. 'Dua has always been super intentional with her decisions, and right now she's laser focused on her tour and soaking up this really exciting time in her life," the source adds. "She feels like everything is finally aligning both personally and professionally, and she doesn't want to rush through such a major milestone. She wants to really enjoy the engagement, spend time planning something meaningful and make sure it feels like them. They're both on the same page, and there's no pressure, just love and excitement for what's ahead.' The engagement was recently confirmed by Lipa, 29, in her British Vogue cover story published earlier this month, following months of speculation after fans spotted a sparkling ring in a Christmas Eve Instagram post. 'Yeah, we're engaged,' she told the magazine. 'It's very exciting.' Lipa also revealed that Turner, 35, had the ring custom made with help from her sister and best friends. 'I'm obsessed with it,' she said. 'It's so me. It's nice to know the person that you're going to spend the rest of your life with knows you very well.' As for what's next, she admitted to the outlet that they haven't made it to the planning stage just yet. 'I want to finish my tour, Callum's shooting, so we're just enjoying this period,' she told British Vogue. 'I've never been someone who's really thought about a wedding, or dreamt about what kind of bride I would be. All of a sudden I'm like: 'Oh, what would I wear?'' The couple, who have kept much of their relationship private, first crossed paths at London's River Café, introduced by chef and owner Ruth Rogers. But it wasn't until a dinner in Los Angeles months later — when they discovered they were both reading the novel Trust by Hernan Díaz — that sparks began to fly. They were first romantically linked in early 2024 and went public in subtle fashion at an Apple TV+ afterparty in January. They later confirmed the romance on social media with cozy photos taken at Glastonbury and made a glamorous appearance at the 2025 Met Gala where fans once again noticed the ring. Lipa is currently in the midst of her Radical Optimism world tour, which kicked off in Singapore and will run through the end of the year with stops across Europe, North America and beyond. Meanwhile, Turner is busy with his own projects, including his lead role in the sci-fi series Neuromancer and the 2025 film Atropia, which premiered at Sundance. Despite their demanding schedules, the couple is 'deeply connected,' the source says, and simply enjoying being engaged. 'They're taking things at their own pace and that's exactly how they want it.' Dua Lipa's Wembley debut: Another mind-blowing performance
Dua Lipa isn't exactly known for being a mind-blowing performer. Clips of her early performances have been memeified online ad nauseam, with one in particular, of the singer on stage woodenly rotating her right hip, doing the rounds back in 2018. "Go on girl, give us nothing," read one viral comment at the time. The meme, which Lipa has since said was hurtful and humiliating, suggested the pop star with heaps of hits didn't have the performance prowess to match. How things have changed. At her Wembley Stadium debut, a more apt comment might be: "Go girl, give us absolutely everything!". The 29-year-old, who is seven months into her Radical Optimism tour in promotion of her electro-inflected third album, emerges atop an S-shaped bridge, her stage presence irrefutable as she commands the crowd into silence with a single swish of her hair. For the opening track "Training Season", Lipa's Abba-inflected wish list of qualities in a romantic partner, the singer wears a diamanté-encrusted leotard as she struts down the catwalk. A gaggle of male dancers trails behind reverently like a colony of bees surrounding their queen. Watch that 2018 clip now and marvel at the metamorphosis. "I feel like I've been waiting for this moment my whole life," Lipa tells the 90,000-strong crowd. All the stops have been pulled out tonight: the confetti cannons are working overtime, and Lipa has no less than four outfit changes. Providing even bigger spectacle than any pyrotechnics, though, is her surprise guest, Kay Jay of the Nineties funk-soul icons Jamiroquai, who breezes onstage in a lavender fedora hat and tassel shirt, for a raucous duet of 1996's hit "Virtual Insanity". "He's a trailblazer for British music," Lipa says of the band's frontman. "He's paved the way, and I feel so lucky to share the stage." Sonically, it's a match made in heaven, with Lipa's deep, raspy vocals right at home on the song's funky chorus. The pomp surrounding tonight's show is a testament to Lipa's scintillating first decade in music - and her new-ish status as one of the UK's biggest pop powerhouses. There's been three Grammy wins, a string of No 1 hits, and, last year, a headline slot at Glastonbury Festival. In May, she was named the youngest person on The Sunday Times' under-40 rich list, with an estimated wealth of £115m, thanks to her prodigious (and lucrative) touring schedule, her two media companies, an influential book club, and the fact she bought back the rights to her music in 2022. Yet despite such cultural omnipresence, Lipa's personality remains a mystery. Interviews are relatively rare and always cordial, sprinkled with vague stories of rubbish ex-boyfriends and not much else. Tonight, we don't glean anything new from Lipa - her asides can be boiled down to generalised thank-yous and musings on how hard she's worked to get where she is today. She is the consummate professional, but sometimes that guardedness leaves you wanting more. Still, Lipa finds other ways to connect. As she rattles through her hits, it's the nightclub-inspired section of the evening that proves most electrifying. Her 2018 collaboration with Calvin Harris "One Kiss" is beefed up with a drum'n' bass-style dance break, followed by a pulsating mash-up of her 2017 breakout hit "New Rules" with DJ duo Bicep's "Glue". Tracks from her earlier albums, including 2020 lockdown relic Future Nostalgia, stand out against the Radical Optimism cuts, with "Levitating" and "Physical" propelling the crowd into a perpetual two-step. Perhaps in recognition of how far she's come, Lipa performs "Hotter Than Hell" for the first time in six years. The smoky belter is what got her signed to Warner Bros back in 2014. By the end of the night, she is quite literally doing a victory lap of Wembley Stadium, weaving through fenced walkways to high-five the crowd, hug them, and fulfil selfie requests. At one moment, Lipa gets lost in the teary eyes of a group of fans from Spain. She snaps back. "I've got a show to put on. Grazie!" she says, scurrying back to the stage. We may not know her fully, but we're fortunate to have her. The Independent

How to get last-minute Dua Lipa tickets for Liverpool shows
Buy Dua Lipa tickets Dua Lipa's huge UK stadium tour will wrap up this week with two shows in Liverpool – but it's not too late to grab last-minute tickets. The 29-year-old pop star will perform at Anfield Stadium, the home of Liverpool FC, in support of her latest chart-topping album, Radical Optimism. The gigs follow her recent sold-out shows at London's iconic Wembley Stadium, where she wowed fans with a hit-filled setlist. Charli XCX and Jamiroquai frontman Jay Kay both made surprise appearances. The Independent praised her "electrifying" performance in a five-star review, while The Standard called it "a victory lap for the megalithic pop star". Worried about missing out? With a limited number of tickets still left, here's all you need to know about this week's Liverpool gigs. Lipa will bring her globe-trotting Radical Optimism tour to Liverpool's Anfield Stadium on Tuesday 24 and Wednesday 25 June. The few remaining tickets can be bought on Ticketmaster now, with prices starting at £47.30 (minus fees) for seated tickets. Stage times have yet to be confirmed, but doors will open at 5pm and Lipa is likely to finish by 10.30pm. Her support acts will be British singer Alessi Rose and former Disney star Dove Cameron. The hotly awaited dates will be her first shows in Liverpool since 2022, when she was touring her disco-inspired second album Future Nostalgia. The tour coincides with the 10th anniversary of her debut single, New Love, being released. The setlist for Lipa's Wembley shows was dominated by material from Radical Optimism, which was released last year. She played 10 of its 11 songs, including hit singles Houdini, Training Season and Illusion, as she turned the stadium into her own dancefloor. The British-Albanian star performed older hits, such as break-up banger New Rules and her Calvin Harris collaboration One Kiss, both of which topped the UK charts. She also sang disco anthem Dance the Night, her most recent number-one single. It earned an Oscar nomination after being included on 2023's Barbie film soundtrack – with Margot Robbie's character dancing to the track in a memorable scene. It's unclear whether the Liverpool shows will have special guests, as the Wembley gigs did. Lipa performed Jamiroquai's 1996 single Virtual Insanity with Jay Kay on the first night, and teamed up with Charli XCX to sing her hit 360 on the second night. See the full setlist below: Training Season End of an Era Break My Heart One Kiss Whatcha Doing Levitating These Walls Hotter than Hell (Wembley night 1) / IDGAF (Wembley night 2) Virtual Insanity feat. Jay Kay (Wembley night 1) / 360 feat. Charli XCX (Wembley night 2) Maria Physical Electricity Hallucinate Illusion Falling Forever Happy for You Love Again Anything for Love Be the One New Rules Dance the Night Don't Start Now Houdini Lipa appeared slightly emotional as she told fans that she was "blown away" to be performing at the national stadium. The London-born singer said: "This is so surreal and so crazy. It means the absolute world to me that you are here tonight. It feels really, really special to be here tonight. "It is 10 years since our first ever London show to about 350 people and I just dreamt of a night like this where I get to be in front of 70,000 people." She took selfies and chatted with fans in the front row, and went through multiple costume changes – at one point appearing in a huge fluffy blue coat lined with the Union Flag. The crowd was also treated to a flurry of confetti cannons and fireworks. Lipa's fiancé, actor Callum Turner, was spotted attending the gig with her family. The singer recently confirmed their engagement, telling British Vogue: "It's very exciting. This decision to grow old together, to see a life and just, I don't know, be best friends forever – it's a really special feeling.' Dua Lipa will perform in Liverpool on 24 and 25 June
