Mumford and Sons treat stunned punters at Dublin pub with surprise gig

Mumford and Sons stunned the punters at a Dublin pub after playing a surprise gig ahead of their massive Malahide show on Friday. The I Will Wait songwriters took to the stage at the famous Malahide Castle on Friday to perform a sold out show to 20,000 fans, but ahead of the show the UK folk outfit popped into an iconic Dublin city pub. On Thursday, the trio headed to the beloved O'Donoghue's Pub on Merrion Row to play a pop-up show for patrons, Dublin Live reports. There was an exciting atmosphere in the beer garden at O'Donoghue's as the group treated pub goers to a set of their classics and newer hits. The pub posted a video of the crowd belting their hearts out as the group played. One delighted fan commented on the post: "Just unbelievable!! Came over from the UK to see them tonight at Malahide Castle and got a text saying about them being at yours last night so headed over and there they were …….. life made". The outfit played a sold out show on Friday as part of their ongoing European and North American tour, following the release of their latest album Rushmere earlier this year. Gates for the show opened up at 4pm for the tens of thousands of punters ready for the show. The first opening act kicked off at 5pm, with Divorce, Odhran Murphy and Lisa Hannigan all performing before Mumford & Sons took to the stage. This year the iconic venue hosted to a spate of mega artists, kicking off with English singer Charli XCX, followed by heavy metal icons Iron Maiden, legendary singer-songwriter Neil Young, pop star Justin Timberlake, Grammy Award winner Alanis Morissette, '80s pop rock outfit Duran Duran before folk stars Mumford and Sons.

Mumford & Sons delighted Dubliners with a surprise gig at a popular city centre pub last night. The British folk band will take to the stage at Malahide Castle this evening to perform for some 20,000 fans. Ahead of the gig, the trio decided to stop by the iconic O'Donoghue's Pub on Merrion Row for an intimate pop-up show. The atmosphere in the beer garden was electric with fans being treated to a mix of the band's classics and newer hits. Their gig in Dublin tonight is part of their ongoing European and North American tour, following the release of their latest album Rushmere earlier this year. The gig is sold out but you might be able to grab some last minute resale tickets on Ticketmaster. Gates for the show open at 4pm this evening with opening acts beginning after 5pm. Attendees will be treated to performances from support acts Divorce, Odhran Murphy and Lisa Hannigan before Mumford & Sons take to the stage. At the time of writing, there are a number of resale tickets available, you should only go to verified resellers such as Ticketmaster. Download your tickets to your phone in advance, in case there are internet or connectivity issues at the site. When do gates open? Gates open at 4pm. The first support act is expected on stage at 5pm with the concert set to finish at 10.45pm. Security checks will be in place, so allow time for bag searches and entry. What time should I arrive? Gates open at 4pm and the show is expected to start at 5pm. The concert should be finished by about 10.45pm. Irish Concert Travel offers a similar service from the likes of Donegal Town, Sligo, Longford and Galway. Train/Dart: Malahide train station is about a 15-minute walk from the concert venue and connects to city centre Dart locations including Grand Canal Dock, Pearse, Tara Street and Connolly. The Dart often runs extra services for concerts in Malahide, with the last train leaving the station some time between 11.30pm and midnight. Car: There is limited parking at Malahide Castle, but it is possible to drive to and from gigs. You are recommended to book parking by downloading the Evntz app and clicking 'parking' on the page for Mumford & Sons. Recommended car routes are: Via the M50: From Dublin city centre, West and south of Ireland, exit the M50 at Junction 3 (signposted M1 Belfast/Airport), continuing on to the R139. At the roundabout, take the second exit, continuing on the R139 for 2.6km. Turn left on to Malahide Road/R107. Continue straight for 4.2km, then take a right on to Back Road. Follow signs for car parks on your left. Via the M1: From the north of the country, exit the M1 at Junction 4 (signposted R132 Swords/Malahide/Donabate). Keep right, merging on to the R132. At the roundabout, take the second exit, keeping on the R132. At the next roundabout, take the second exit, again staying on R132. Take a slight left, merging on to Swords Rd/R106, and continue for 2.9km. Turn right on to the Dublin Road/R107, continue straight for 700m and then turn left on to Back Road. Follow signs for car parks on your left. Are there any tickets left? At the time of writing the gig is sold out, but if you are looking for resell tickets, you should only go to verified resellers such as Ticketmaster . Attendees under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult to be permitted entry. You should bring an official form of identification – a passport, Garda age card or driving licence.
