So Solid Crew star Lisa Maffia reveals she's cleaning toilets and emptying bins at her local church - 23 years after Brit Awards triumph
She may have been a member of one of the Noughties most iconic hip hop groups, but Lisa Maffia isn't afraid to give back to the community. The musician, 46, has revealed she's started volunteering as a cleaner at her church, as she shared a glimpse at her day in a recent video on TikTok. Showing she isn't afraid to get her hands dirty, Lisa posted a clip of herself scrubbing out the toilets and emptying the bins at her church after attending Sunday service. The star is part of CityGate church, and she offers her services for the church, which can include greeting worshippers, caring for kids during services, playing music, managing sound or livestream, and preparing the building for services or events. So Solid Crew has boasted a huge lineup of stars throughout its history, with big names including MC Harvey, Asher D and Romeo. In her TikTok video, Lisa told her followers: 'I'm on church service tonight so I'm going to take a bit of product and go and clean the loos because I am on cleaning duty!' The star is part of CityGate church, and she offers her services for the church, which can include greeting worshippers and preparing the building for services Her post then featured a montage of Lisa cleaning the toilets and emptying the rubbish, before hoovering one of the rooms. In September, Lisa tragically revealed her dad has been diagnosed with terminal cancer as she prayed for 'more time' together after only just finding him. The star made an emotional plea after her mother Shirley was diagnosed with terminal cervical cancer in 2020. Publicly revealing him for the first time on her Instagram Stories, she wrote a prayer for the 'kind soul' as he smiled in a hospital gown. Lisa captioned: 'Father god allow me more time with this man. My dad, such a kind soul, I don't want to lose him and I've just found him. Please god give me more time.' The singer's representative confirmed to MailOnline he is battling terminal cancer as Lisa works to raise awareness for patients and their families. Lisa's mother Shirley was diagnosed with terminal cervical cancer in 2020. In 2021 she revealed she was 'praying' for her beloved mother and defiantly declared the devastating disease 'will not win'. South London native Lisa, captioned the image: 'Praying for my mumma today, cancer will not win!' Lisa also shared a snapshot of herself looking glam in a long wig, as she wrote: 'You will go through highs and lows, and that's ok.' Back in October, the star heartbreakingly detailed her pain over her mother's battle as she herself faced an agonising wait for test results to see if her abnormal cells were cancerous. In an interview, Lisa sobbed as she told how she's had to watch the cancer 'tear my mum's body apart', amid Shirley's declining health. Speaking to The Sun, the singer urged people to get their smear test after abnormal cells were found in her cervix in March, resulting in her having a colposcopy procedure. She sobbed as she also told how Shirley had missed her own smear tests for 'five years' after being too 'proud' and 'embarrassed' to go to the doctors. Opening up about her mum's ordeal, Lisa said: 'She's quite a proud and self-conscious person and gets embarrassed. Going to the doctors and getting a smear she thought it was quite invasive and she put it off. 'Cancer can grow so quickly, by the time she started to get an ache in her leg and the constant bleeding that alerted her to go to the doctors – it was two years too late.' Lisa told how the cancer had spread to Shirley's 'lymph node glands' and 'collar bone', with her fight with cancer seeing her face so much chemotherapy and radiotherapy, that she lost a kidney as a result. Featuring the likes of Romeo, Harvey, and Oxide and Neutrino and Lisa, So Solid Crew exploded onto the garage scene in 2001 when their hit single 21 Seconds shot straight to the number one spot. It was followed by They Don't Know, Haters and Ride Wid Us, which reached No.3, No. 8 and No.19 respectively. During their history, So Solid Crew also scooped three BRIT Awards, British Video, Breakthrough Artist and Hip Hop/Rap/Grime Act. In 2002 the group landed a TV documentary with Channel 4 titled This Is So Solid However, after a string of negative press and some bandmembers arrests, many of the group's gigs were cancelled due to fears of violence. The group reunited in 2013 for a comeback tour, which will culminated in a headline show at London's O2 Arena. Since, Lisa has starred on a variety of reality TV shows and worked on her solo career. She currently owns a beauty salon in Margate, offering a range of treatments.
