Forensic teams comb scene of botched hijacking outside acting Gauteng top cop's home

JOHANNESBURG - Forensic teams are combing through the scene of a botched hijacking outside the home of acting Gauteng police commissioner Fred Kekana. A search was underway in and around Westonaria for a blue BMW, which the suspects were reportedly travelling in. It's understood that the armed suspects attempted to hijack a constable in a state vehicle who was outside Kekana's house to fetch him on Monday. A white state BWM with a shattered window on the driver's side was still parked outside Kekana's residence on Monday morning. Forensic teams were dusting for fingerprints and taking photographs of evidence being collected. According to the Westonaria Police Station commander, Kgomotso Netshitengane, the suspects fled the scene after the constable acted swiftly and opened fire. 'We are now here at the scene with the LCRC - Local Criminal Record Centre. They are trying to get more exhibits from the vehicle.' Both Kekana and the constable did not suffer any injuries during the attack.

Counterfeit methylated spirits and vinegar lab dismantled in Mpumalanga

The Mpumalanga police have warned the public against purchasing counterfeit goods following the discovery of a laboratory making methylated spirits and vinegar in KaBokweni on Thursday. Mpumalanga News reports that after receiving a tip-off, the police raided the laboratory that was located behind a supermarket in the area. 'There was a woman at the premises who identified herself as an employee. The owner was reportedly not available during the operation,' says Mpumalanga police spokesperson, Brigadier Donald Mdhluli. The SAPS confiscated all the items that were found in the laboratory and said these would form part of the investigation. The items include 2 500 containers of methylated spirits and vinegar, in various sizes. The estimated value has not been revealed. Officers of the Local Criminal Record Centre took the lead during the raid. However, Mdhluli says the Hawks will take over the investigation. No arrests have been made yet. The acting provincial police commissioner, Major General Dr Zeph Mkhwanazi, encouraged community members to report any suspicious activities in their area. He says police will not hesitate to act swiftly. Breaking news at your fingertips… Follow Caxton Network News on Facebook and join our WhatsApp channel. Nuus wat saakmaak. Human remains discovered in Selosesha, Free State

FREE STATE- Police have discovered human remains in Zone 5, Selosesha on Wednesday, 21 May 2025. The remains are suspected to be those of 19-year-old Puleng Motlodi, who went missing in July 2023. HUMAN REMAINS DISCOVERED IN SELOSESHA A multi-disciplinary team consisting of K9 Search and Rescue members, Local Criminal Record Centre experts and investigation officers located the dead body of Motlodi inside a pit toilet. Through an intensive search, police traced a 36-year-old suspect and interrogated him. During the interrogation, the police discovered the suspect was with three other male accomplices who met Motlodi in Zone 3. The suspect then led the police to a house in Zone 5, Selosesha, where they dismantled the pit toilet pointed out to them by the suspect. 'A search inside the sewage led to the discovery of a Black windbreaker, a jersey and female underwear. The police also discovered limb bones [legs and arms] and a human skull and collected the remains for further examination,' read the police statement. According to police, one of the suspects is a ringleader currently incarcerated, who knew Motlodi and ordered hit men to kidnap and take her to Zone 5. 'It is alleged that the ringleader later became aggressive and strangled the life out of the victim. He then, with the help of the suspect, dumped the lifeless body of the victim in a pit toilet,' the police said. The case has been changed from a missing person's case to a kidnapping and murder case. The suspect and the 40-year-old ringleader will be charged, while the arrest of the two other accomplices is imminent. A 26-year-old man was killed in a drive-by shooting in Waterloo, KZN, on Wednesday, 21 May 2025. According to Reaction Unit South Africa, team members found a bullet-riddled white VW Polo against a tree. 'The driver was slumped in his seat. He was shot multiple times and demised before the arrival of First Responders and Paramedics,' said RUSA. The suspects allegedly fled in an Isuzu bakkie. The deceased's death is allegedly linked to the taxi industry violence.
