Safer Roads by Code : India's Next-Gen Hack Transforming Safety

What happens when you challenge budding engineers and developers to build something that's not just cool, but also makes the world a better place? Safer Roads by Code : India's Next-Gen Hack Transforming Safety That was the spirit behind a recent hackathon hosted by Locus, a global supply chain automation company, known for helping businesses perfect omni-channel fulfillment and delivery across all-miles. Before it became a global leader in logistics and supply chain tech, Locus began its journey with RideSafe, a navigation app dedicated to women's safety. This year, the organization went back to its roots. On Women's Day, Locus launched 'Code For Her', a hackathon open to young tech talent across India, inviting them to reimagine women's safety through the lens of AI, data, and design. But here's the twist: the focus wasn't on just celebrating Women's Day. It was on sparking purposeful innovation, nudging the next generation of developers, builders and creators to think critically about the world around them, and how their skills can make it better. "At Locus, we've always believed that technology finds its true meaning in the problems it solves," said Geet Garg, Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer at Locus. "This hackathon wasn't about building the next viral app, but rather about sparking a mindset. We wanted young developers to see that when engineering is combined with empathy and intention, AI can do more than automate - it can protect, empower, and truly make a difference." The Winners The hackathon received entries from first-year college students to early-career professionals solving for a common brief: designing an intelligent safety system that can help individuals, especially women, travel more confidently. 1st Place: Guardian Agents Ashish Kumaraswamy, along with his team members Mathana Mathav and Arvind Puthocode, all young techies from Tamil Nadu, built something that went beyond navigation. Their AI-powered app introduced intelligent safety companions or 'Guardian Agents' that monitor real-time risk, and think efficiently to step in when something feels less than ideal. In addition to route planning, the app also acts like a protective presence on every journey. 'As a team passionate about AI and technology, we saw this as an opportunity to apply Agentic AI frameworks to address a real-world issue. The hackathon offered a platform to combine our technical skills with a socially relevant cause, motivating us to contribute and make a difference' - Ashish and his team shared. 2nd Place: NirbhayaPath Shaik Mohammed Huzaifa , Software Engineer from Andhra Pradesh, built a highly intuitive and adaptive route-planning platform that integrates police data, community reviews, lighting conditions, and crime trends. The robust app features a safe route finder, a co-commuter matching tool 'Sathi', a smart SOS and escort mode along with community sourced safety ratings and AI-led risk predictions. , Software Engineer from Andhra Pradesh, built a highly intuitive and adaptive route-planning platform that integrates police data, community reviews, lighting conditions, and crime trends. Why This Still Matters Women's safety isn't a one-day conversation to be had on 8th March and forgotten for the rest of the time. According to 2025 NCRB data, over 88% of women in Indian metros report feeling unsafe after dark, with 60% altering their routes to avoid risk. The need for smart, user-first safety technology is urgent and ongoing. Initiatives like these act as 'nudges' towards responsibility, empathy, and a tech culture that values solving problems for the world. "As an organization that has always stood for building with empathy and innovating purposefully we were genuinely impressed.' said Vittal Sirigiri, Head of Data Science at Locus. 'What really stood out was how these young minds thought about risk, behavior, context and not just code. Every entry showed a desire to use AI in ways that could genuinely help people. That's the kind of thinking we were hoping to spark with CodeForHer. And honestly, that's the kind of mindset we look for in our teams - curious, socially aware, and driven to solve real-world problems'. Beyond the competition, this was also a quiet testament to the tech culture we are building at Locus. In an industry often dominated by speed, optimization, and cost-efficiency, this hackathon was a reminder that tech should never lose sight of its human purpose. About Locus: Founded in 2015, Locus is a leading global supply chain automation company transforming decision-making through the power of AI and ML. Delhi Man Goes On A Date, Slapped With Rs 12,000 Bill. What Is Dating App Scam?

Last Updated: A Delhi man claimed that he had met someone on a dating app and decided to meet at Cafe Locus in East of Kailash area in Delhi. His romantic date soon turned into a nightmare. A Delhi man's right swipe on a dating app turned into a mid-day nightmare when he discovered that he was on a match made in hell. Sharing his horrifying experience on Reddit's r/LegalAdviceIndia subreddit, the user shared that his date asked him to meet at a cafe named Locus in the East of Kailash in Delhi. When his date began ordering Jägerbomb– shot of Jägermeister into a glass of an energy drink– each costing Rs 1200, the man decided to reveal that he had no more than Rs 3000 to spend for their date. The man was left dumbstruck when the woman, name disclosed as Bhumi by the man, ordered for the bill. Rs 11,958 was the amount the two owed to the cafe. However, in his post, the man revealed that the woman admitted to him that all she was carrying was Rs 100. Perplexed, the man asked the staff at the cafe to split the bill and stop the woman from leaving the premises. Once Bhumi had left the cafe, Varsha, allegedly the owner of the eatery, approached the frightened man and issued him a threat that the authorities would have to be called and he would have to shell out an additional of Rs 10,000 making his sum go up to Rs 22,000. The man also claimed that after protesting and negotiating with Varsha and the staff at the Locus cafe, he asked his friend to come to the cafe and remove him from the situation. In the end, the matter was settled for Rs 2,500. 'The girl was just setup by the pub to increase the sales. It's a well known scam," a Reddit user wrote in response of the man's ordeal. 'Terrible Experience – Feels Like a Trap! I had one of the worst experiences ever at Locus Lounge & Café Bar in Greater Kailash Colony. The atmosphere is nowhere near what they promise—dark, uncomfortable, and honestly shady. But that's not even the worst part," a user wrote in their review before adding," This place seems to run on a trap-like business model. I was approached by a girl named Varsha, supposedly just to accompany for conversation—but it quickly became clear this was all part of a setup. Without my clear consent, expensive items kept getting added to the bill—drinks I didn't order, food I didn't even get a chance to try. The prices were shockingly high, and the final bill was outrageous." Another user shared a similar experience. 'This restaurant and bar is a scam. Too much Over price. One shot of jagermaster 1200rs and 500rs for red bull. 10% Servicing charges not optional you must have to pay and additionally they will charge you 25% VAT. I suggest do not go to this restaurant and bar (sic)." 'This place is scam. Please stay away from here and their agents. They ruined out night and wasted over 10,000 inr, (sic)" another chimed. Date Scams Although dating app scams aren't unheard of, several men have fallen prey to matches who work in unison with such dubious cafes or eateries that slap the victim with an exorbitant bill and threaten action if not paid in full. Journalist Deepika Narayan Bhardwaj had highlighted the dating app scam that had at least a dozen victims and the bill amounts ranging from Rs 23K to the north of Rs 60K. Bhardwaj, in her viral thread on 'X', shed light on a cafe called The Godfather that was located in Mumbai and was allegedly the scamcentre of dating scams. The modus operandi was simple. The women ordered drinks, hookah, shots, etc without showing the menu card to the victims. Only once the bill arrived did the men know that they had been on a date they would remember for a lifetime. Locus Technologies Releases Service Order Management App

Enterprises boost productivity, reduce costs, and capitalize on AI-driven insights MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., May 27, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Locus Technologies, the sustainability and Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) compliance software leader, announced the release of its Locus Service Order Management (SOM) app, a user-configurable software-as-a-service (SaaS) to help complex organizations efficiently manage any work order lifecycle and streamline any service workflow with transparency, auditability, and AI modeling. The Locus Service Order Management app automates the scheduling, dispatching, and tracking of service tasks for any department, from inception to closure, all within a single unified platform. Locus SOM integrates with 30+ purpose-built apps in the Locus ecosystem, enabling seamless integration with adjacent apps for service order-centric initiatives, such as EHS and water compliance, incident response, and asset management. 'Locus Service Order Management is the missing piece for organizations looking to streamline field operations and compliance response without adding another disconnected system,' said Neno Duplan, founder and CEO of Locus Technologies. 'It makes little sense for customers to license and manage standalone service order software when they can use our fully integrated, AI-ready platform to initiate, track, and document corrective actions—whether responding to a water compliance alert, a refrigerant leak, or any other field event—directly from within the same system they already use to manage environmental data.' Locus SOM includes end-to-end workflow automation, dashboards and reports, process analytics, field service management (FSM), tasking, notifications, routing/territory planning, asset and equipment management, incident management, and corrective action tracking. All Locus apps are metadata-driven, which empowers users to configure the interfaces and workflows within Locus Service Order Management to meet the needs of any department, from compliance to customer service and ITSM. 'There's no limit to the types of business processes our customers can manage with Locus Service Orders; it could be equipment maintenance or service outages. The app flexes to any use case,' said Duplan. All Locus software is delivered via a multitenant cloud that centralizes and secures customers' data, enabling scalability and AI that continually improves as the collective data grows. 'The Locus Service Order app improves service delivery and reduces operational costs through the efficient, automated management of work orders and the generation of insights to optimize workforces and transform processes,' said Duplan. Locus Technologies Releases the First Fully Integrated Software Suite for Water Quality, Water Compliance, and Water Sustainability Programs

Suite includes apps for Backflow Prevention, Industrial Pretreatment, Water Metrics, and more MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., April 29, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Locus Technologies, the sustainability and Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) compliance software leader, announced the release of Locus Water, the first end-to-end, AI-ready software that has been future-proofed for the water utility industry. The suite is uniquely built upon state-of-the-art multitenant cloud, metadata-driven software-as-a-service (SaaS) architecture, empowering water and wastewater utilities to adapt to shifting priorities and address current demands without redundant data entry, compatibility issues, or technical gaps. 'Utilities have struggled with fragmented, outdated, or single-purpose systems for too long,' said Neno Duplan, founder and CEO of Locus Technologies. 'That's why Locus Water is a game-changer for water pros trying to keep up with everything from DMRs, CCRs, PFAS and compliance to cyber security and customer outreach. We're unifying the entire water lifecycle – from source to discharge and from metrics to quality.' Locus Water is comprised of eight optional and unified software apps: Drinking Water Compliance, Backflow Prevention, Industrial Pretreatment, Water Metrics, Stormwater Inspections, Test Equipment Management, Watershed Maintenance, and Customer Complaints to help water professionals efficiently leverage the data generated by diverse water initiatives for tracking, tasking, and reporting. Additional purpose-built apps are slated for release after the completion of ongoing beta tests with several water districts. As part of the software release, Locus also announced an incentive program to help water utilities quickly migrate to the new technology. 'Water is the world's most precious resource, and it warrants technology that rises to that level of significance,' said Duplan. 'Locus Water enables true digital transformation and raises the bar for the entire industry.' All applications in the Locus Water collection support data capture from mobile, IoT devices, and API connectors, and they share a common user interface, a workflow engine, a reporting dashboard, GIS, Single Sign-On (SSO) and enterprise-grade security, and configuration tools for power users to adjust the software. The configurable nature of the metadata-driven architecture positions Locus clients to quickly respond to regulatory changes, emerging contaminants, and EHS compliance and ESG/CSRD requirements from the same interface.
