Train services resume day after landslide

Silchar: Train services on the Lumding-Silchar hill section under the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) resumed on Friday morning, a day after a landslide disrupted operations. The first train to pass through the restored stretch was the 12520 Agartala–Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Express, which crossed the affected zone at 9:42 am. Operations were suspended on Thursday after a landslide between Dihaku and Mupa stations. The incident prompted senior railway officials to rush to the site and initiate restoration efforts on a war footing. Debris, including boulders and mud, was cleared overnight, and the track was deemed safe for movement early Friday. To assist passengers during the disruption, help desks were set up at major stations, including Guwahati, Lumding, Silchar, Badarpur, and Agartala. Railway staff provided real-time updates and stranded passengers were offered food and drinking water at various stations. A senior NFR official said that normal train operations have resumed and all services on the route are expected to run as per schedule.
