CM to launch Indiramma Giri Jala Vikasam for tribals
The stage is all set for the launch of another innovative programme — Indira Soura Giri Jala Vikasam.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy will formally launch the programme in Macharam village of Amrabad mandal in Nagarkurnool district on Monday. The scheme envisages provision of solar powered irrigation to 2.1 lakh tribal farmers holding titles on six lakh acres under the Recognition of Forest Rights (RoFR) Act over the next five years.
Giri Jala Vikasam scheme has been conceived with a view to uplifting the economic and living standards of tribal farmers who were granted land rights under the RoFR Act in 2006 enacted by the then UPA government. The scheme is aimed at developing land and horticulture by providing solar powered irrigation facilities to tribal farmers on 100% subsidy and would be implemented on a saturation mode over five years starting this financial year.
The scheme was conceived as it was found that over two lakh tribal farmers lacked basic amenities, irrigation facilities and livelihood measures for improving productivity due to non-availability of power. It was accordingly decided to take up comprehensive development of RoFR lands by providing off-grid irrigation facilities through solar pumpsets.
The State government recently sanctioned ₹12,600 crore for the implementation of the scheme recently for distribution of pumpsets worth ₹6 lakh each to beneficiaries. The Chief Minister will formally launch the scheme and distribute solar pumpsets to eligible beneficiaries and address a public meeting.
He would then leave for his native village Kondareddypalle to offer special prayers in Lord Anjaneyaswamy temple there before returning to the city in the evening.
